There's No Way You Can Pass This Diablo Quiz. But You Can Try!

How familiar are you with the Diablo franchise? It's been around since 1996 so there is a lot of information out there. There is a ton of lore you can discover in all three games and their additional expansions. There is an incredible wealth of info you don't really need to know in order to play through any of the games, but knowing all of that info really does make you a hardcore fan.

Do you think you have the knowledge to be a hardcore Diablo fan? Do you know how many expansions there have been? Which character is which? Which characters classes have always existed and which ones were added in later? Do you know enough about each story to understand certain items and plot points? Can you recall all the bosses?

If you think you can do all these things, then step into the portal and get ready to go through the Diablo franchise like an Archivist to determine just what is and what isn't a part of the great realm of the Diablo games. That being said...do you even know what that realm is called? Don't worry, even if you're not a hardcore Diablo fan, this is still a fun quiz...you'll just be a normal difficulty character...

Question 1

True or false - The Diablo games were originally going to be turn-based RPGs

There is plenty of speculation out there on the internet that the original concept for the Diablo franchise was going to be something like a turn-based RPG. This would make these games far less like dungeon crawlers and far more like a Final Fantasy sort of game. Could you imagine having to wait your turn while fighting Diablo at the end of the game? I can't imagine that being any fun whatsoever. Either way, this is all speculation...or is it?

Question 2

Who is this suddenly very human character?

This guy really comes to light in the second installment of the Diablo franchise and then even becomes an NPC who helps you fight at certain parts of Diablo 3. He is...well, he was the aspect of Justice before he decided to choose humanity over his brothers. It's a pretty emotional clip that you get to see in the third game. Either way, even as a human, he still gets to sit on a council in Heaven and he is awesomely powerful.

Question 3

What is the name of the town you start in?

In the very first Diablo game you start off in a town...well, it's hardly a town actually. It's more of a very little village but there is still a blacksmith, a preacher, a local drunk, and several other characters you can interact with. It turns out that this little village is significant enough to house a great cathedral and become the seat of power for King Leoric. It appears again in Diablo 2 by way of a portal and by Diablo 3 there is a new town named after it (and you can reach the old town once per year now in a special event).

Question 4

Who is this devilish-looking creature?

This guy is one of the bosses from the very first Diablo game. He is perhaps the first or at least one of the first bosses you encounter. His famous line "fresh meat" has scared the pants off many young gamers, especially given the speed at which he attacks you. It's pretty impressive since he's a huge creature with a giant blade. You don't really get mention of him at all in Diablo 2 but he shows up again in Diablo 3 in a couple of forms...including a fun little companion.

Question 5

What is this shiny red stone?

To be fair, there are several of these stones throughout the Diablo franchise. That's not all that surprising though since each one contains a pretty significant boss battle in it. In fact, one of these stones is retrieved at the end of the first game...and Diablo would have stayed dead if it wasn't for the hero character jamming this stone into his own head, turning himself into Diablo. In the third game, all of the evils are shoved into one stone to create a super-powerful Prime Evil.

Question 6

Who is this creepy character disguised as?

Alright, those fans who are hardcore enough will know that the actual character who is bound in this photo is indeed Baal (the final boss of the Diablo 2 expansion). But he is contained in the body of another character whose tomb the hero must seek out. If it helps to narrow down who it could be, there are several false tombs the hero can explore, but only one of them contains the body of this man who sacrificed himself to contain Baal.

Question 7

Who is this Lord of Hatred?

In the Diablo series, there are three Prime Evils. These include the Lord of Terror, Lord of Hatred, and Lord of Destruction. the Lord of Hatred is a specific boss battle in the main game of Diablo 2. He isn't the final boss, but he's an important part of the game, for sure. A cool side note is that the metal band Kamelot has a popular song that refers to this character's march. It even features one of the guys from Dimmu Borgir.

Question 8

Who is the Diablo 3 scoundrel?

There are several companions you can bring along with you on your journey through Diablo 3. This isn't the same dynamic as in Diablo 2. In D2, you could hire a mercenary and while they'd have a name, they wouldn't have a story. Well, every companion you have in D3 has a backstory. The scoundrel is a particularly interesting a selfish character who is pretty well only interested in his own wealth but he will still join and fight with you. But what's his name?

Question 9

Who is the Skeleton King?

This guy is pretty important throughout the entirety of the franchise. He may not be mentioned too much in Diablo 2, but he is the main reason that horrible things happen in the town of Tristram...well, besides Diablo himself reigning in the depths, this guy brings some pretty evil characters to the town. He's always one of the lesser bosses but you fight him in the first game and then you can fight him in two different ways in Diablo 3, depending on the time of year.

Question 10

Who is this angel?

That's right, this character is, in fact, an angel. He's pretty scary-looking but he's also pretty darn cool. If you don't have the expansion for Diablo 3, then the chances are that you've not yet fought this boss. And let's face it, if you don't have the expansion for Diablo 3, you're not a hardcore fan of Diablo anyway. This angel's whole purpose is to obtain the power of the soul stone so he can rid the realm of all humanity and bring peace.

Question 11

What is this cube?

There was a patch added fairly early on in the expansion that allowed you to travel to a place called the Sescheron Ruins. In this place, you can find a cube that Zoltun Kulle will help you use in order to enhance items and make your abilities even greater. It's very much similar t another cube that was found in a previous Diablo game but it's worth noting that these are not the same items and do have some pretty obvious differences.

Question 12

Who is this angel of Valour?

This guy might be a little hot-headed but that's only because he is the angle of Valour in Heaven. He is all about kicking butt and taking names. Of course, sometimes that clouds his judgement and makes him think he can take on the angel of Justice...or Diablo himself. Either way, this angel doesn't become an important character in the Diablo franchise until the third game. But once you meet him, he easily becomes one of the coolest characters in the game.

Question 13

Who is this crazy cave dwelling boss?

Perhaps one of the fastest and most difficult bosses in Diablo 2, this guy dwells in a cave at the bottom of a dungeon out in the desert just waiting for you to walk into his very tiny lair. It can be very difficult to move around and get any good strategy in when you face him. It's best just to have Town Portal ready and a whole lot of defence. Either way, this boss is one of the Lesser Evils...but is often more difficult than some of the Prime Evils.

Question 14

What is this cube?

There are two different but significant cubes to be found in the Diablo universe. One of them allows you to create better potions and gear and store a ton of items in your inventory and the other allows you to enhance items, change qualities and extract awesome powers from weapons you are no longer using. Which one is this cube? Well, all I can say is that this is actually the less powerful of the two cubes. It was created so that there would not be so much corruption.

Question 15

What was the company that created the Diablo 1 expansion?

Some of you might remember that there was an actual expansion for the original Diablo game. It was called Hellfire. It really makes the game sound ominous but it actually added another character class to the game which made everyone pretty happy because it can be pretty easy to get bored of just the staple characters every day. Either way, anything that happened in the expansion to the first game is never actually counted as canonical to the franchise. Just not good enough, I guess.

Question 16

What is the Diablo realm called?

There are all sorts of places to travel to throughout each Diablo game...well, there really is only one place you can travel to in the original game simply because you keep marching down to the pit of hell from the crypts of Tristram. Regardless though, the next two games have pretty huge world maps. But what is the name of the world? Sure, you can use portals to travel all over and we can't forget about the portal that takes you to the Cow Level, but what is the name of the realm?

Question 17

Is Diablo 4 real or rumour?

After each and every Diablo game there has been talk of the next one. Diablo 3 might make room for a fourth installment but has there actually been real talks about making the game? A lot of people expected some sort of announcement at last year's Blizzcon and at E3, but there was nothing but silence when it came to Diablo. Sure, they released some additional content with the Necromancer Pack, but that's not a new game. Is it all just talk?

Question 18

Who is this knowledgeable man?

He might just be an old man, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have a ton of power. Remember, knowledge is power and this guy has a ton of knowledge. He knows everything you would ever need to know about the realm of Sanctuary and he keeps all that knowledge in one giant book. He used to help you identify items if you didn't have a scroll to do it...but now you can do it all yourself so I guess he wasn't needed anymore.

Question 19

Who is the Dark Wanderer?

The Dark Wanderer is a pretty significant character in Diablo 2. Every cutscene throughout the game, between each act, and important plot point shows the Dark Wanderer making his way across the land in search of the Prime Evils. Now, the reveal is that the wanderer is eventually a human vessel for Diablo. But who is the human? Some say it is Aidan, the son of King Leoric who was the vessel for Diablo in the very first game. What do you say?

Question 20

What is the new annual retro event in Diablo 3 called?

For the past two years now there has been an event that allows you to go back in time both with graphics and with story. This event basically transports you back to the world of Diablo 1. Complete with music, sound effects, and graphics. Is awesome for someone who has played through all of the games and has been a fan since 1996. It even allows you to get to a Cow Level...even though there's no Cow King to fight.

Question 21

What are the two expansion characters from Diablo 3?

There is a pretty interesting assortment of characters to choose from in Diablo 3 but not all of them come free. Now, it's pretty difficult to find a version of D3 that doesn't have at least the first expansion which does give you one of the characters, but you still have to go out of your way to buy the pack that gives you the second expansion character of the game. Though, I have to say it is well worth it.

Question 22

How many original character classes are there in Diablo 3?

Sure, there are two expansion characters to be had with Diablo 3 if you want to pay out the money to get them (which I think is a great idea), but do you know how many characters the original Diablo 3 comes with? If you didn't buy anything other than the initial release of D3, how many characters would you be able to choose from? You don't have to name what the classes are, but you do have to give the right number.

Question 23

what is the title of the Diablo 2 Expansion?

Many of you have probably bought the Diablo 2 Battle Chest not thinking at all about what the actual name of the game was that you were getting when you bought the game along with the expansion. You just cared about the additional characters, the additional act, and the additional boss battle...not to mention all of the cool new gear that you could get for having a whole new act to explore. But it's a pretty significant title that sort of tell you who you have to fight.

Question 24

What were the Diablo 2 expansion characters?

You may have been so used to playing with the Diablo 2 expansion back in the day that you've completely spaced on which characters were original and which characters showed up in the expansion pack. Or you might have never played the expansion to begin with you. The first group could still thankfully be partially hardcore but the second group doesn't have a hope in any level of hell. I suppose only the hardcore fans would know which characters were from where.

Question 25

How many characters classes were in Diablo 2?

When I ask how many classes there were, I mean how many were there in the original release of Diablo 2. Never mind the expansion characters. Can you fancy a guess at just how many characters you could play without ever having to purchase the Diablo 2 expansion pack Lord of Destruction? Here's probably a more important question...did you ever actually play through every single character so you could fully and truly experience Diablo 2 in all of its glory?

Question 26

Can you name the original Diablo expansion character?

You may not know this and if you didn't know this was a thing then you cannot really call yourself a hardcore fan and be serious at the same time. Anyway, when Diablo first came out, it only had three character classes. But there was an expansion release that was created by Sierra that added a character. Now, there were other classes as well that were left as test files and you can use them if you alter some files, but we'll make this question easier by only asking for the one.

Question 27

How many D1 character classes are there (including expansion characters)?

So, you have your basic three characters from Diablo 1. The Warrior, The Rogue, and The Sorcerer. Then, of course, you have your expansion character The Monk. But, if you're a true hardcore fan of the Diablo franchise, you'll know that there were other characters you could technically use if you altered the right files in the game folders. These were test characters that never made it all the way, but were left in the programming anyway. Do you know how many Diablo 1 character classes there are if you count all of those as well?

Question 28

Is the Cow Level a lie in Diablo 3?

The Cow Level is an infamous part of Diablo 2. Sure, you can click on cows in the very first game and they will moo for you, but the second game decided to take things a little further. There were rumours of a Cow Level in D1, but those were false, unfortunately. In D2 though, you could take Wirt's leg and throw it in the Horadric Cube with some other items in order to create the Secret Cow Level. There are rumours that this level or something similar has popped up in D3...but is the game telling the truth when it says it's a lie?

Question 29

Who is the man in Diablo 3 who helps you with gems?

When you first find this weasely guy, he's hiding in a barrel to hide from all of the monsters in the dungeon you are exploring. When you let him out, he mentions his assistant and wants you to help him find the guy. Of course, he knew exactly what happened to his "assistant" when he got him to grab hold of a cursed treasure. Either way, when you kill the assistant and save the jeweller, he helps you to combine, remove, and upgrade gems.

Question 30

What is Deckard Cain's catchphrase?

Everyone knows who Deckard Cain is. Well, anyone who has played Diablo. And if you can't recall his name, you'll probably at least recall his catchphrase. And if you can't recall his name, you're not a hardcore fan by any stretch of the imagination, but that doesn't mean you can't still answer this one simple question. I mean...he basically says it everytime you click on him in Diablo 2 and the loading screen in Diablo 3 shows it all the time.

Question 31

What company created the Diablo franchise?

The company that created Diablo is also the same company that created both StarCraft and WarCraft. So...it goes without saying that they've made a ton of money in the time that they've been running. They are responsible for every Diablo game and expansion, with exception to the Diablo 1 expansion which was created by Sierra. They also created the fairly recent game Overwatch which has been a pretty big hit. Either way, you might say it's strange that this company made something as hot as Diablo.

Question 32

Who is the Lord of Destruction?

The expansion of Diablo 2 is called Lord of Destruction in reference to one of the Prime Evils. So, this guy is a brother to Diablo and is also the big bad boss of the expansion...which makes sense since the expansion bears his title. Anyway, there are only three Prime Evils, so if you know your stuff when it comes to the lore of the Diablo franchise, it should be pretty easy to answer. Even if you've just played through all of Diablo 2, you should know.

Question 33

Who is this beast of a boss?

I'll give you a clue...this boss is found in Diablo 3. He does look pretty similar to another boss in one of the other Diablo games, but this beast is a demon tactician...basically, that just means that he rules over a demon army and he likes to think that he has some sort of strategy even though all he does is just send waves of demons to just attack everything. It's a pretty disorganized strategy. Either way, if it helps, this character is the Lord of Sin.

Question 34

Who is this Lesser Evil?

I'll give you at least one hint, just because I'm nice. This Lesser Evil is female. That's all I'm going to bother saying in terms of clues though. There shouldn't even really be a need to say that. If you're a hardcore Diablo fan, you've already got the answer and you've skipped past this explanation to get the question right and move on down the line. I would hope that anyone who has played through the game series should at least be that good.

Question 35

Who is this post-game boss?

I say post-game because this boss isn't a boss in the regular gameplay of the specific Diablo game it's from. I will say that it is definitely a character you want to kill as soon as you discover the character's true nature. But unless you buy the expansion, you don't get a single chance to do anything about it. However, this character is the first boss you fight in the expansion as you work your way to save the world, yet again.
