It has been said that life is a highway. However, that has never been truer than when one hits the open road, gathers their friends or family, and sets out on an epic road trip. Grab your favorite snacks, a magazine or two, and put together a playlist that is worthy of the adventure of your dreams. Everyone has to have all of the best songs for their adventure or the mood just won’t be set right. The car has to be entertained with the right music, or the trip will be off to a bad start. This is a very critical part of the trip.
What songs would everyone put on their road trip playlist? Who knows what songs the car would respond to? Okay, maybe you aren't driving a red Corvette, but that should not stop you from throwing this song on your playlist. Everyone knowns at least the chorus of this hit. Plus, the song just feels like it is out on the open road while you are listening to it. It is a great song to travel with.
“Here I Go Again” by Whitesnake
“Here I Go Again” is especially great if you are taking a road trip because you just got dumped and you need to get away. It is basically the anthem for people to regain themselves without a significant other and hit the road to find themselves. It is a great song to scream in the car with some friends.

If you are on a dark desert highway with cool wind in your hair...you know what I am talking about. This song is all about an odd hotel in the middle of California...that you can never leave. Yeah, maybe that's not the situation you want to be in, but what a great song to sing along to.
“Route 66” by Chuck Berry
"Get your kicks on Route 66!" Tons of people take road trips on the ever so famous Route 66. It is actually a great location to see some really cool stuff. What is a more appropriate song to listen to than this one if you are driving along Route 66 any way? Yeah, pretty awesome, right?
"Lake of Fire" by Johnny Cash
Sometimes you just want to get into some trouble while you are on the open road. Maybe you want to find a road house to visit, or you want to just find an interesting pit stop. Whatever it may be, if you are looking for trouble you might as well be playing "Lake of Fire" along with it.

Doesn't "Holiday Road" remind you of the movie Vacation? Come on now? Think of that poor family struggling through their road trip trying to get to Wally World. This is the perfect road trip song if I have ever heard one. The Griswolds would have to agree as well.
“Mr. Blue Sky” by Electric Light Orchestra
Who wants to be traveling on a road trip during a rainy or overcast day? No one! You want to be out on the road while the sun is shining, so it makes your trip all the more exciting and amazing! "Mr. Blue Sky" by ELO is a great way to get everyone pumped about the weather.
“I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” by The Proclaimers
Okay, maybe you won't be walking 500 miles, but you will certainly be driving it. Plus, imagine everyone in the car freaking out when the "duh duh duh!" part comes up. Yeah, everyone will get super into that. This is a great song to sing along to, especially in the car.
"Rock Lobster" by The B-52s
I am sure I am not the only one asking...what the heck is this song about? It is a weird mix of a bunch of sea animals, which eventually goes back to a rock lobster for some reason. However, everyone gets super excited whenever it comes on, so it makes for a great song for a sing along.
“Ramblin’ Man” by the Allman Brothers Band
Boy oh boy, this is a great song to cruise some country roads to. You don't need to be singing along to it, but you can put it on repeat just venturing down some lonely roads. It is a mellow song that is good for those down times in the car. you know when nothing exciting is going on.
“On the Road Again” by Willie Nelson
No road trip is complete without this gem of a road trip play list song. Think of open roads a head and not a car in sight. You are hitting that road because you have a destination to get to...eventually. But for now you are just driving and looking at the road around you.
“Born to Be Wild” by Steppenwolf
"Get your motor running. Head out on the highway! Lookin' for adventure, or whatever comes our way." It says it all right there in the opening line of the song. It is a great road trip song because it sounds like Steppenwolf literally is out on a road trip as they are making the song.

Whoever does not like this song is banned from road tripping. This song will get the whole car rilled up, especially during the late night hours when you want to get a few extra miles in before settling in for the night, but you want to stay awake without the whole car turning in. You know what I mean.

Stone Temple Pilots might not have ever gotten their Grunge street cred, but they sure did get their road trip street cred with "Interstate Love Song" that is for sure. It is an easy listener that is great for the down time in the car because you aren't alway going to be having a wild adventure.

"They made up their minds, and they got a packing. They left before the sun came up that day." Yeah, this is a good road trip song, although it really is not about road trips. It still has enough road trip metaphors to pass as a classic road trip song nonetheless.

"Fade Into You" is a romantic kind of road trip song that is good for the open roads, especially if you are traveling with your significant other. If you both are planning a romantic trip while you are out on the roads getting there, this song is great for your play list.

Okay, maybe you do not want your driver to just shut up and drive, but it is a fun song to have on the road regardless. Although your driver might not appreciate the sentiment, they will appreciate the beat that goes along with "Shut Up and Drive" that is definitely for sure.

"The Distance" is a really quirky song by the band Cake. They might have some really weird music, but this one takes the cake (hah) when it comes to road trip music. Well, you are going the distance when it comes to driving to your destination, so why not use this song to inspire you?
