We all do it. We are all movie critics whenever we see a film. We give it our own stamp of approval or we nix it based off of our own opinions. It does not matter what other movie critics tell us, we go into movies with an open mind and we form our own opinions. We talk to our friends about them, and sometimes even argue about how we feel about these films as well. Movies mean a lot to us. Especially when they fall within the genres we love. Heck, we spend money to watch them in the theaters, then we spend money again to buy them for crying out loud.
When it comes to your favorite movies, would you say you have a good taste in films or do people tell you that you don’t? Are you the type of person that takes movie night really seriously, or do you merely show up to movie night hoping someone else will pick the film? Some people know what they want to watch and some people don’t, right? Take our quiz and see if you have a good taste in movies based on how you critic them. Maybe you’ll do better than you think!
Forrest Gump
Forrest Gump is a movie about a man that is a little slower, but he seems to achieve great things regardless. Forrest wants to live a simple life, but it seems like he is destined for awesome things as he started a movement to run across the United States. He just wanted the girl he loved to love him.
Saving Private Ryan
This is a pretty intense movie that starts out on Normandy Beach during D-Day. A platoon of men have to find the solider James Ryan as all of his brothers were killed in the war and they don't want his mother getting four notices saying all of her sons were dead. A lot of people die, but so is war.
Schindler's List
This is a super sad movie about the happenings in World War II. Schindler was a rich but good man that owned a factory and decided to harbor Jews from the certain death they would face in the work camps. In the end, he thinks he could have done even more, but the people he helped see him as a hero.
The Shawshank Redemption
Here we have a crazy movie that takes place in the middle of a prison. Two prison in-mates become good buddies and they plan to escape from the prison because they don't deserve to be there and putting up with the horrible treatment from the guards and fellow in-mates. So they put their plan in motion.
Toy Story
This is a sweet Pixar film that is about a bunch of toys that comes to life when their humans aren't in the room. They have feelings and emotions just like us, and the main character Woody feels jealousy when he sees his human Andy playing with a new Buzz Lightyear more than him.
Pulp Fiction
There is a lot going on in Pulp Fiction. There is double crossing, drug use, over dosing, people accidentally getting shot in the head. it is a lot of messy stuff wrapped up into one film. There are also a lot of different plot lines going on as well. It is a crazy film, but maybe say it is Quentin Terrantino's best.
Titanic
We all know the line, "I'll never let go Jack!" Well, this is where it came from. Jack and Rose, an unlikely couple, fall in love while sailing on the Titanic and become star-crossed lovers as they seemingly have no chance of survival after the ship sinks. We all root for the two of them and ball our eyes out when Jack dies.
Fight Club
Okay, this movie is insane. We start with a man that hates his job and his life for the most part who has his apartment explode. All of a sudden he meets this man, Tyler Durgan, that helps him free his mind and together they start Fight Club. Many people join the club and it becomes bigger than he ever imagined.
Alien
This movie obviously takes place deep in space where a bunch of scientists are trying to explore a new planet. They are not expecting to come across this insane aliens that can rip them to shreds, but they do and that is where all the trouble begins. These aliens take no prisoners that is for sure.
Psycho
This was one of Albert Hitchcock's most famous classics. We have a runaway with a ton of money trying to escape with all of the money she stole, and she stops off at a creepy motel. Sadly, she never checks out because the owner of the motel is a literal psycho that kills her in the shower.
The Silence of the Lambs
This movie is a creepy venture into a sociopath's mind that goes to some pretty dark places. The cops are trying to catch a serial killer, Buffalo Bill, who is skinning women to make a woman suit for himself and they enlist the help of psychopath Hannibal Lecter to help them get in his head.
Captain America: Winter Soldier
He doesn't have to be your favorite of the Avengers, but some people vehemently stick by the idea that Winter Soldier is the best MCU movie as a whole. We follow the struggles of the First Avenger as he tries to save his friend Bucky who he thought he lost in the first Captain America movie. What did you think?
Deadpool
As far as a R-Rated movie goes, this one certainly takes the cake. We follow Ryan Reynolds, oops, I mean Wade Wilson, as he takes on the anti-hero role of a fan on a mission, not to fix things, but to blow stuff up (both figuratively and metaphorically). Whether you're torn on his position as a hero that doesn't matter, what people seem to agree on is that it's pretty hilarious. What are your thoughts?
Mean Girls
We bet you didn't think we would have a teen movie on this list, but Mean Girls was always so much more than a teen movie. At least for a lot of people. It is certainly a fan favorite. The acting was great, and Regina George stole the show as being one of the best 'villains' that a teen could encounter. What did you think?
Jaws
You can't get too comfortable in the water because this shark is out for blood—human blood that is. We all know that sharks usually don't target humans, but for the sake of this film, they do apparently. This small town won't shut down their beaches for the safety of their citizens because beach season is too profitable. Oh boy...
Die Hard
Some say it is the best Christmas movie of all time. Hans Gruber and his band of German vigilantes are up to no good as they are holding up an entire building for millions of dollars of profit. Good thing one rag tag cop happens to be in the building picking them off otherwise the hostages would be in some major trouble.
Gladiator
If you are looking for a movie filled with vengeance, then Gladiator is the film for you. Maximus had his entire family taken from him in a horrific way and ever since then he fought as a Gladiator trying to get vengeance for their deaths. There is a lot of blood and gore, but it makes it more realistic, right?
E.T.
This movie is about a cute little alien that was accidentally left behind by his fellow aliens while they were exploring Earth. He tries to get back home, but it seems impossible because he can't get in contact with him. He finally meets friends with a boy, Elliott, who helps him get back to his home.
The Wizard of Oz
We all know the music from The Wizard of Oz—it's epic. Dorothy gets blown into the land of Oz, and she meets up with some unlikely friends who band up with her to see the Wizard. All she wants to do is get home, but it seems like the Wicked Witch of the West is a major roadblock to make this happen.
The Shining
A writer takes his family up to a ski resort during one of the off seasons when no one is up there to write one of his books. However, the hotel is very haunted, and he starts to lose his mind going on a killing spree on his family. His family escapes leaving him in the hotel to die. It is pretty gnarly.
The Matrix
Would you take the red pill or the blue pill? Some people are no longer happy knowing there is more to their "normal lives." There is a matrix that controls absolutely everything that goes on behind the scenes. Neo and his rag tag bunch try to crack the code and fight against those controlling the matrix.
Rocky
Underdog boxer, Rocky, trains to fight against his nemesis, Apollo Creed. He also has to convince his coach that he is not all washed up either. After he starts training with his coach, Mickey, he goes the extra mile to get in shape for this big match. however, he does not win the big fight after all.
Some Like it Hot
Marilyn Monroe has a killer performance in this film. She is a singer in an all girl band until a couple of runaway men that are escaping the mob wind up in their train and play a couple of instruments with them dressed up as women. They put the moves on her regardless which makes for a funny and at times awkward film.
Back to the Future
Marty McFly and the Doc travel to the past in order to make things a little better for the McFly family. The thing is Marty can't reveal who he is to anyone or else really bad things could happen. The weird thing is that his mother has a crush on him when he comes in contact with her. Um, ew.
Jurassic Park
Who thought that creating a theme park with dinosaurs would be a great idea? Well, apparently the creators of Jurassic Park thought so, until everything started falling apart and dinosaurs like the Tyrannosaurus Rex get loose. Yeah, not such a good thing. Eventually the people get out, but it isn't easy.
Star Wars: A New Hope
All of the Star Wars movies are classics, but A New Hope is something special. It was the first film to be created, and it is where we met Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, and Darth Vader. We fight out the galaxy is at war and only the Jedis can save everyone from total destruction by the hand of the Empire.
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
The last of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, this film wraps everything up, and also destroys the evil ring! Frodo gets to Mordor after a long journey and throws it into the lava that is the only source that can destroy the ring and frees Middle Earth. It is a glorious thing.
Citizen Kane
This is considered to be the best movie ever made by many people. it was a long epic film was glorious set pieces and the actors were oh so dramatic with their acting. The movie is about a man that was taken from his family to get a great education and make something out of himself, but he becomes a bit of a nut.
Fantastic Four
In terms of Marvel and their superhero movies, this one is definitely seen as a flop. It's certainly not at the same level of the recent Marvel movies and those of the MCU. The important thing to remember that this is a Marvel comic movie, not their creation. The biggest issue people had with it was the casting. But what do you think? Did it have it's charm?
The Room
It's difficult to critic a movie that is considered a cult film (I refrain from calling it a classic). The issue with this movie is that even the people who love it, know that it's not a very good movie. Yet they still stick by it and everyone seems to know it. James Franco recently won an award for portraying Tommy Wiseau creating this exact movie. What are your thoughts?
Avatar
The movie is the highest grossing film in the world, sitting comfortably above the Titanic. The most interesting part of that is that it's a highly forgettable film. The stats show that pretty much everyone has seen it, but when you think of a movie, this one isn't always the one to come to mind. It was a masterpiece in it's own right, and told the regurgitated story in an interesting format. What did you think?
Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
Comedy is hard to nail on a good day, but Jim Carrey has made a career out of being one of the funniest men alive. This ridiculous movie tells the story of Ace Ventura, who as the title says is a Pet Detective. He solves crimes involving animals. He even claims to speak with them. Dr Doolittle meets Sherlock, and throw in an extra dose of absurd and you get this movie. What did you think?
The Lion King
This is a difficult one to speak of without remember the horribly tragic loss of Mufasa very early on in the film. This Disney movie pulls at our heart strings while serenading us with one of the best animated movie soundtracks out there. Do you Hakuna Matata and have no worries that this is one of the best films out there?
Get Out!
This Horror Film quickly became an overall hit when even Horror film buffs found love for the movie. It depicted a terrifying scenario where black men and women were being sold to the highest bidder, so that they could be possessed and taken over by the richest, decrepit men. They manage to mix the Supernatural with a very real sense of harvesting and using people to their advantage. What did you think?
La La Land
I know what you're thinking, a movie with both Ryan Gosling AND Emma Stone? What could possibly go wrong? And, when it comes to the critics, very little can go wrong it seems. This fantastical and whimsical films tells the story of music and magic in love, and how sometimes things don't always end up the way we want them to, even with all the magic in the world. What did you think?
