Adam Sandler is an American comedian from Brooklyn, New York, although he grew up in Manchester, New Hampshire. Sandler became more than a comedian almost immediately upon reaching Los Angeles; he appeared in a low budget movie called ‘Going Overboard’, and was hired as a writer for the famous sketch-comedy show Saturday Night Live, where he would meet several other comedians he would befriend and work with in the future.

In the next ten years, Sandler would act, write, produce, and even perform music that got on charts via his movies. The films themselves were very immature early on. Sandler played a rather annoying, childish character in his first bunch of movies, but despite the critics’ overwhelming bad reviews, the general public seemed to like them.

He’d eventually take some serious roles as he became a bigger star in Hollywood, but he knew what made him the money. He continues to write, produce, and star in wacky comedies today. His most successful movies in the past ten years, Hotel Transylvania and Grown Ups, both co-star David Spade and Kevin James, two friends that Sandler has known for decades. Sandler is sort of known for his loyalty, with his friends appearing in pretty much every movie, even if the role is uncredited.

Adam Sandler's films have made families laugh for generations now. How well do you his movies? Start the quiz to find out!

Question 1

In 'Billy Madison', who did Billy fall in love with?

Billy Madison is Sandler’s first real success as both an actor and a writer, and that success was pretty much only at the box office. Critics didn’t like the plot of the movie, which resulted in a lazy, annoying rich kid re-doing grade school in 12 two-week intervals to prove to his father that he could take over his company. If he didn’t succeed, an evil man would take over the company instead (gasp!). Like every other Sandler movie, there is a love interest that is way out of his league. Who was it in this movie?

Question 2

What was the final category that won Billy his diploma?

During Billy’s run through the 12 grades of elementary and high school, things were going on behind the scenes to prevent Madison from succeeding at this challenge. Billy’s only other competition for his dad’s business was Eric Gordon, a man that worked closely with Brian Madison. Eric blackmailed Billy’s principal into saying Billy bribed him for his grades, so those 24 weeks were all for nothing. The heir to the company was then decided by a head-to-head trivia contest. Billy started out slow, but came back and won when Eric couldn’t come up with an answer for this category.

Question 3

Why does Happy Gilmore become a golfer?

Adam Sandler plays the title character in Happy Gilmore. Happy is a short-tempered hockey player that just recently quit the game after not being a good enough skater. What he was good at, was the slap shot. He found out one day that skill translated to driving a golf ball, and began to win himself money betting on his own long drives. Eventually, Gilmore is convinced to try to become a golf professional because of the potential money he could earn. Why did Happy need the money?

Question 4

What is the name of Happy Gilmore’s rival?

If the whole movie was about Happy Gilmore seamlessly shifting from hockey to golf without anyone challenging him, it’d be a pretty boring movie. This is why a rival emerged. Gilmore’s outsider status and lack of regard for golf etiquette made himself a few enemies. One was the best golfer on tour, who was dead set on proving no schmuck could just walk onto a golf course and win. He was also very good at being such an a-hole that Gilmore didn’t look as bad by comparison.

Question 5

Which celebrity does Happy fight at the Pro-Am Tournament?

Pro-Am golf tournaments give amateur golfers a chance to play with professionals. To make it more enticing for professionals to show up, a lot of the amateurs end up being celebrities, such as actors, politicians, and former sports athletes. The most famous of these tournaments in the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, where Bill Murray shows up every year to entertain the audience... and play some golf, too. The movie’s tournament doesn’t share the name with a real-life one, and Bill Murray doesn’t play with Happy Gilmore either.

Question 6

What football position did Sandler’s character play in ‘The Waterboy’?

If ‘The Wedding Singer’ did well at the box office, ‘The Waterboy’ did great. $186million total at the box office, his second film to top $100mil that year. This role was similar to the one he played in Happy Gilmore. Sandler played Bobby Boucher. While Gilmore got his anger issues from hockey, Boucher got them from his overbearing mother. The 31 year-old waterboy unleashed that anger after he was bullied by his team’s own quarterback. He looked good enough that he was given a jersey, and a spot on the football team. Where did coach play him?

Question 7

What was Robbie Hart’s dream job before settling on being a wedding singer?

While Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison are two of Sandler’s early cult classics, 'The Wedding Singer' was the first film of his to find major success at the box office, grossing over $100 million. Sandler starred as Robbie Hart, a wedding singer who falls in love with a waitress named Julia Sullivan (Drew Barrymore). The fact that both he and his crush were seeing other people caused the majority of the movie’s drama. Both were supposed to get married to other people, but Barrymore’s partner cheated on her, and Sandler’s partner wanted to marry something more than a wedding singer.

Question 8

Which musician saved Robbie from a fight on an airplane?

The love affair between Sandler and Barrymore’s characters reached a peak at an airport. Robbie thought that Julia was in Las Vegas with her fiance getting married, after Robbie’s ex-girlfriend introduced herself as his fiancee. In turns out they hadn’t yet left, and with the help of Julia’s friend, Robbie had an opportunity to win her back. As the wedding singer began serenading his crush with velvety smooth vocals, Julia’s fiance attacked the man trying to take his future wife. He was stopped by this famous musician, who was impressed with Robbie’s singing ability.

Question 9

In how many Adam Sandler movies has Drew Barrymore been the love interest?

At this point in the quiz we know that they've played a couple in at least one movie, The Wedding Singer, and you could probably guess we wouldn't be asking this question if they didn't act together in at least one other movie. It's always interesting to see who Sandler's love interest is; usually it's someone visually way out of his league. Sandler does some interesting things with the roles too, like how four different characters had the initials "V.V."

Question 10

What team did Bobby Boucher play for in ‘The Waterboy’?

Boucher started his career as a waterboy with the University of Louisiana Cougars football team. During his tenure, he was relentlessly bullied by members of the team. Instead of standing up for Boucher, his coach fired him, citing Bobby as a “distraction”. This would turn out to be a blessing in disguise for Boucher. At his next place of employment, Boucher worked his way up from the waterboy, to an actual player on his team. He even got to play against his former team in the “Bourbon Bowl”. What team did he play for?

Question 11

Who played the child in ‘Big Daddy’?

Big Daddy was Sandler’s biggest box office success for quite awhile. He wouldn’t hit the $231mil mark on a project until 2012’s Hotel Transylvania. Big Daddy did well partially because of the performance of a certain set of twins, who played the kid Sandler’s character became the guardian of. The twins went on to star in their own Disney TV show for three years, with a reprise for another three years on top of that. For their role in Big Daddy, the two received a handful of nominations from various award shows.

Question 12

Which Late Night host was Sandler’s roommate in ‘Big Daddy’?

The backstory to how Sandler’s character, a lazy, immature adult named Sonny Koufax, was put in charge of raising a 5 year-old child has to do with his roommate Kevin Garrity. While Kevin was away in China on vacation with his girlfriend, Sonny woke up to find an abandoned Julian McGrath, and a note saying that Kevin is his biological father. Koufax tried to give Julian back to his mother, but it’s revealed she died, and that is the reason for McGrath’s appearance. Because Kevin was away, Sonny had to handle parenting duties till his return. (Roommate not pictured)

Question 13

Where did Kevin’s girlfriend used to work in ‘Big Daddy’?

It may not seem like it, but this kind of plays a big role in the film. Not only does Sonny constantly poke fun at Corinne, played by Leslie Mann, for the place where she used to work, but it’s also the location of Sonny’s birthday party in the final scene of the flick. Adding another layer to this scene, Sonny’s ex-girlfriend and her current boyfriend were both working at this place during his birthday, which was after she had left him for someone with a more promising future.

Question 14

What was the first film released by Happy Madison Productions?

After Sandler’s success as an executive producer for both ‘The Waterboy’ and ‘Big Daddy’, he decided to start his own production company: Happy Madison Productions. This was obviously named after his first two big films ‘Happy Gilmore’, and ‘Billy Madison’. Interestingly, Sandler isn’t the main actor in this movie, instead the lead role is played by one of his longtime friends. Like most Sandler films, the movie didn’t go over well with critics, but it made money regardless. It currently holds a 26% score on Rotten Tomatoes, but it’s $92 million earned at the box office greatly outweighed the $17 million budget.

Question 15

How many times does Adam Sandler’s character die in ‘Little Nicky’?

Little Nicky is quite an absurd movie. The premise is that his father, Satan, is unwilling to give up his throne as ruler of Hell to his sons after ten thousand years of ruling. Nicky’s brothers are irked by this news, freeze the gates to Hell, and begin to terrorize Earth by capturing souls and taking over human bodies. Nicky tries to defeat them, but is killed in the process. Luckily for him, every time he dies he goes to Hell, and can go back to Earth to try and save Satan’s life again.

Question 16

Which celebrity kills the last of Little Nicky’s brothers?

There are two clear themes emerging from Sandler’s movies at this point. One is that the plot often seems to surround Sandler taking over his parents’ business, and a famous celebrity saves the day. This is no different for Little Nicky. His brother appears to defeat Nicky once again by capturing Nicky’s soul in a flask, and turning himself into a bat to make a getaway. His plan was foiled when this star bit his head off. Yes, he bit the head off a bat. Wasn’t the first time, either.

Question 17

Who does Nicky’s mother fall in love with at the end of the movie?

While Nicky’s father was literally the Devil himself, his mother was an angel. How Satan and an angel even met each other, let alone procreated is a question for the ages. Regardless, Nicky was reunited with his mom after he sacrificed his life for a woman’s in one of his deaths on Earth. Instead of going back to Hell, he went to heaven. At the end of the movie, when tying up loose ends, we’re told that Nicky’s mother fell in love with her new aerobics teacher, a touching tribute to a late co-star of Adam’s.

Question 18

What’s Mr. Deeds' first name?

In this film, Sandler plays pizzeria owner Mr. Deeds. This is another film where Sandler has to deal with generational wealth being handed down to him, as Deeds received a multi-billion dollar company from a grandfather he never knew that froze to death while climbing a mountain. Deeds finds out that the money caused many more problems than it solved, and he was happy to relinquish his share of the company, but not to the people that were expected to buy it.

Question 19

What was Mr. Deeds' dream job?

Selling pizzas was a fine life for Mr. Deeds, but it wasn’t everything he wanted. Every day he practised his craft, hoping that one day a company would notice the work he sent them, and hire him. The potential inheritance money didn’t help him achieve his dream, although it set off a chain of events that would eventually lead to Deeds landing the job he’s always wanted. What profession was it, and which company did he want to work for?

Question 20

What’s the name of Sandler’s cartoon holiday movie?

This was Adam Sandler’s very first role as a voice actor. The name of the movie is a direct reference to the first line of his hit holiday song “The Chanukah Song”. Sandler voiced three different characters in this film about a felon who is sentenced to community service as a basketball referee for one of his crimes. The movie was nominated for a Razzie Award under the “Most Flatulent Teen-Targeted Movie” category, which HAS to have been created solely for Sandler films.

Question 21

Which famous athlete made a cameo as a patient in ‘Anger Management’?

Anger Management was supposed to be a much bigger movie than it actually was. With a star-studded cast that included a co-starring role for Jack Nicholson, expectations were high, much higher than there should ever be for a Sandler flick. Predictably, it disappointed critics, but still made money at the theatres. The athlete in question here was infamous for his many aggressive outbursts at officials, and also appeared in Mr. Deeds which was released a year earlier. Who was it?

Question 22

What is the name of Sandler’s cat in ‘Anger Management’?

This seems like a wildly tough question, but it’s a pet’s name, and it’s been used by Sandler before. The cat was named after Sandler’s own pet dog, who was a big part of Adam’s life. The dog was the ring bearer for his wedding, and starred in a short film on the ‘Eight Crazy Nights’ DVD. The English bulldog was the son of Sandler’s dog “Mr. Beefy” who starred in Mr. Deeds, and is the father to “Matzoball”, Sandler’s current pooch.

Question 23

Who played Adam Sandler’s ‘The Longest Yard’ character in the original?

‘The Longest Yard’ that Adam Sandler starred in was a remake of the 1974 movie of the same name. Sandler plays Paul Crewe, a former NFL QB that was shamed for shaving points and gets sent to jail. While in jail, he joins the inmates’ football team for a game against the guards. While the Sandler version is predictably filled with jokes, the original was meant to be a somewhat serious film. The actor that played Paul Crewe in 1974 also had an acting role in the 2005 release. Who was it?

Question 24

Which NFL commentator did play-by-play for the Cops-Cons game?

Adam Sandler seems to have no trouble attracting cameo appearances in his movies. ‘The Longest Yard’ was full of them. In a football movie, it makes sense for someone from the football world to join the cast. The fictional Inmates vs. Guards game realistically had enough hype for it to be publicly broadcast, so they brought in a professional to do commentary for the scripted game. It helps when that broadcaster has a comedic side as well. He and his felon colour commentator provided a few good chuckles.

Question 25

Which WWE wrestler was NOT in 'The Longest Yard’?

The football world wasn’t the only place Sandler found acting talent, he also pulled from the world of entertainment wrestling. These wrestlers fit right in as inmates, guards, and football players. All in all, five pro wrestlers made the cast of ‘The Longest Yard’, some who had previous experience on set, some who just had experience acting in the WWE. It worked better than most would expect. These guys can really act, and the size difference between the wrestlers and some of the actors was worth a laugh or two on its own.

Question 26

Which actor sold Sandler the universal remote in 'Click'?

‘Click’ is an interesting movie based on the premise of a universal remote that can actually control the universe. Sandler’s character finds out about this remote after stumbling into the “beyond” section of Bed, Bath & Beyond. He didn’t know the full capabilities of the remote he was given by this famous actor, but he didn’t care. He just needed something that changed the channel and could turn the air conditioning on. He wanted to make his life simpler, and the remote did help with that.

Question 27

What is the downside to the universal remote?

The remote in ‘Click’ is amazing. Not only does it control every piece of technology in your house, it controls everything in your house. Can’t get peace and quiet in your own house? Mute everyone! Waiting for your food to cook? Fast forward! But when something seems too good to be true, it usually is. This remote had a huge glitch that probably should have been mentioned in the fine print. Or, maybe it was mentioned and Sandler should have read it before using it.

Question 28

Why do Chuck and Larry get married?

‘I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry’ is a story of two firefighters that get married. I would tell you why they were married, because that would help explain the plot, but I can’t or it would spoil the answer to this question. It’s a bit unbelievable that in 2007 people thought it was unbelievable two people like Adam Sandler and Kevin James would marry each other, but that’s the world we live in. They spent the entire movie proving to everyone else that they really were a couple that loved each other. Why?

Question 29

How do the firefighters get out of jail?

This movie, like all of Sandler’s others, ends on a happy note. The firefighters that were originally bothered by Chuck and Larry’s gay relationship flipped their positions, and supported the two guys in court. Unfortunately, that just ended up getting the whole fire station arrested, along with Chuck and Larry. But, as I said before, it was indeed a happy ending. The firefighters were able to get out of jail in no time. How did they manage to do it?

Question 30

What profession did the Zohan pursue upon coming to America?

‘Don’t Mess with the Zohan’ is Sandler at his absolute wackiest. He plays an almost Borat-like character from the Middle East, Zohan Dvir. Zohan is a trained, superhuman Israeli military soldier, but wants to move to America to live a normal life. Ironically, the neighborhood he moves to in the US also has and Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and he is thrust back into fighting again. Zohan came to the USA to be a professional, but what job was he trying to get?

Question 31

Who was not one of the other dads in ‘Grown Ups’?

‘Grown Ups’ is like if a group of comedians made their mid-life crisis into a movie. I mean, they kind of did. This group of famous comedic actors came together for what should probably have been their last movie, but since the public doesn’t want to stop watching these old men, Hollywood will continue casting them, no matter how past their prime they are. The movie involves five men who grew up together who take their families to the lake house where they spent summers together as kids. It’s filled with nostalgia, feels, and fart jokes. Lots of fart jokes.

Question 32

What sport did the “grown ups” play against another group of dads?

Towards the end of ‘Grown Ups’, the adults run into another group of men they knew from way back when. They were rivals when they were kids, with Sandler’s group triumphing over the other group of kids in a high school championship. One of the member’s challenged Sandler to a rematch of that game, thirty years later, and Sandler accepted. The movie finished off with these men playing against each other in front of their families. What sport were they playing?

Question 33

Who played Sandler’s son in ‘That’s My Boy’?

'That's My Boy' features another member of the Saturday Night Live cast, just not from the same era as Sandler. In this movie, the main character Donny (Adam Sandler) had a son at the age of 15, raised it til the kid was 18, and is only coming back into his life after years of not talking. He finally has to come to terms with his terrible parenting skills the week before his son gets married. It is as good of a movie as it sounds.

Question 34

Who played Jill in ‘Jack and Jill’?

‘Jack and Jill’ is by all accounts one of the worst movies ever made. In 2011, the year it was released, J&J took home every single Golden Raspberry Award. The “Razzies” are a yearly award show to celebrate the worst films, as opposed to the best ones that came out that year. It can’t be understated how impressive this unprecedented feat is. A man won the “Worst Actress” category for their performance as Jack’s twin sister Jill. A man. It still holds the record for most Razzies won in a single year.
