Pokémon has taken the world by storm. All ages enjoy playing the trading card game as well as the Nintendo games. The franchise was created in 1996 by Satoshi Tajiri and is about fictional characters called Pokémon. It began as a pair of video games for the Game Boy but now spans video games, trading card games, animated television shows and movies, comic books, and toys. It is the second best-selling video game franchise. 2016 marked the 20th anniversary of the original games.

In the world of Pokémon, humans known as Pokémon Trainers, catch and train Pokémon to battle each other for sport. They are creatures of all shapes and sizes. The Pokémon do not speak except for uttering their name. There are different types of Pokémon and they can also evolve as they learn new abilities and grow in strength through winning battles. Trainers are challenged to catch more Pokémon to build a stronger team. With that being the goal, consumers are encouraged and excited about buying new Pokémon packs and sets.

Where once kids collected baseball cards, today’s card collecting circles heavily around Pokémon. A majority of fans have multiple binders sorted by elements, with pages upon pages of card sleeves, protecting their Pokémon.
