Can You Name These Grand Theft Auto Characters?

Ever since video games became a mainstream product, developers have been trying to figure out how they can get more and more people to spend money on their games, usually by turning to already established mediums and doing things their way. While we may not agree with this, we must say we like the trend in video games of getting actors to actually capture animation for the characters in the games as well as provide voiceover work. Not only does this allow for character movements that don't look rough and stiff, it also means you can end up with a whole cast of memorable characters, as long as they're written well in the first place.

One series that knows how to write memorable characters is Grand Theft Auto. Ever since the third game, they've been making sure that people stay interested in what is happening by coming up with larger than life characters to place in their stories. To this day, you could likely name characters from Grand Theft Auto games from over ten years ago and people will still be able to picture them in their head. We decided to test all of your GTA knowledge and put together a quiz of many characters from the GTA universe.

So, think you're ready to take on our quiz? Have you been playing Grand Theft Auto for years now, often coming back for the memorable characters? Well, it's time that you proved that by acing our GTA characters quiz.

Question 1

Which GTA Character Is This?

Even if you can't name the guy, you might recognize him, and if you can do that then we're sure a number of scenes have now come to your head. Yes, this man's larger than life personality has cemented him in the mind of many different gamers who have now gone onto newer games, still able to recall why it was that this man found his way into their heads in the first place. Seriously, you can hear him right now, can't you?

Question 2

Which GTA Character Is This?

This was actually the first GTA game that we ever owned, having only ever played the other games in the series at a friend's house or borrowing them off friends. Honestly though, we're sort of happy that we only came to own a GTA game at this point, because it was like being awoken to a whole new style of gaming that we could exploit and have fun with all day long. We don't care what anybody says, this is the best GTA game.

Question 3

Which GTA Character Is This?

This is the first time that the developers of GTA have let us play a certified maniac, somebody who is understandably going on rampages around the city. Until this guy, people were usually part of a mob or getting wrapped up in drug deals or gang violence, which meant the random violence made a lot less sense. Once this guy entered the mix, random acts of violence were pretty much part of the narrative arc, meaning you could do whatever you wanted.

Question 4

Which GTA Character Is This?

We've never understood why stories and narratives in media seem to paint everyone as obsessed with looking after their family, making sure they're okay even if they don't actually have any interest in being around them. Sure, blood is thicker than water, but we think that if many of these characters had anything to do with us, family or not, we would've dropped them from our lives a very long time ago. Are we just being heartless on this one?

Question 5

Which GTA Character Is This?

Quite possibly the most sympathetic character in any GTA game, this guy won the hearts of so many players, and we can honestly see why. He was a tragic man, somebody who wanted to move on from a dirty life, haunted by the things that he'd done, but just couldn't manage to pull himself out of it all. This guy highlighted the dirty reality of the American Dream, showing it for the sham that it truly is in this cruel world.

Question 6

Which GTA Character Is This?

We will honestly never understand the things that go through the minds of people who want the biggest muscles possible. We know that we could all do with losing a little bit of weight around the middle, but that doesn't mean we want to get out there, doping ourselves up with the latest drugs in the hopes that our arms or leg muscles will then look bigger afterwards. Steroids are weird, and so are the people who are obsessed with them.

Question 7

Which GTA Character Is This?

It's funny to think that the people who make these games purposefully didn't include animals for a long time, for exactly the same reason they didn't include children, as they knew it would lead to people just slaughtering defenseless children and pets. That being said, we think if you're going to give people the ability to go crazy in a simulated world, you should go all the way with it. Otherwise, why would you even bother in the first place?

Question 8

Which GTA Character Is This?

Like most people, we're very sad that we still haven't seen any single player DLC for GTA V, having to rely solely on their free updates to GTA Online instead. Sure, it's great that they're free, but it;s not scratching the GTA itch that we have. Here's hoping that they don't continue down this road with every game that they release from now on. If they do, we could see ourselves losing our love for the games, something that we really don't want to happen.

Question 9

Which GTA Character Is This?

We've decided to pick an image that ramps up the graphical quality of this character by quite a bit, but we think that any real GTA fan should know who this character is. One of the great things about GTA is that they're not afraid to pick new characters every time they bring out a new game in the series. Sure, they'll make references to past games for the fans, but they try to keep the characters as fresh as possible.

Question 10

Which GTA Character Is This?

One thing that we liked about the most recent GTA game is that it concerned older characters as well as young, a trend that they started with GTA IV. While that game certainly flirted with the concept of older criminals, it wasn't until GTA V that they spent a huge chunk of time looking into the lives of people who are older and yet still continue to take part in a life of crime, whether they want to or not.

Question 11

Which GTA Character Is This?

We had a lot of hope for this character once we first started playing the game, but by the end of it, we realized that there wasn't really anything about him beyond the bland caricature that has been played out numerous times before by so many other narratives. If you really liked this guy and the journey that he went on, we're sorry, but we couldn't see past the paper thin human being that he is throughout the entire game.

Question 12

Which GTA Character Is This?

GTA has been a huge franchise for a long time now, which is how the developers have managed to bring in major talents to do the voice acting. They did something brilliant with GTA V, choosing unknown actors to play the part of the main characters. Every single one of them did a tremendous job, something that we think should be lauded. Thankfully, people like Steven Ogg have been recognized for their work, which has led to further jobs in the industry.

Question 13

Which GTA Character Is This?

Just like most of the games in the GTA series, this guy was dropped into an installment that had some pretty immature humor running through it, including the names of people and places. Coming with one of the most unfortunate nicknames of all time, this guy's name was probably lost on most Americans, but in the area that the writers grew up, his name is actually a deeply offensive slur that is looked down upon by anyone with common decency.

Question 14

Which GTA Character Is This?

GTA games seem to constantly jump between being hugely bleak and grey or the complete opposite, highly colorful and wacky. We wish they would realize that the most interesting games and narratives are those that find the blurred lines between everything else. We don't need something that falls on either side of a spectrum because that is never interesting to take part in. If they can figure out a way to mess with the duality that is often in these games, they could be onto a winner.

Question 15

Which GTA Character Is This?

If you're a big fan of the GTA series, then you can probably hear this guy's voice in your head, and it probably doesn't bring a smile to your face either. Possibly one of the most hated characters in GTA history, this guy managed to make video gamers across the world hate the concept of hanging out with friends and family. He reminded everyone that, if they're you're family, there's no chance you can ever just drop them out of your life.

Question 16

Which GTA Character Is This?

When people play the GTA games, it can be pretty easy for them to forget that the center of this franchise is actually two white guys from Scotland, which is crazy when you take a look at the atmosphere and vibe of the games. In fact, they've come under fire for their portrayal of minorities in their games, with some arguing that they have a regressive attitude towards people that are completely other to them. What do you guys think?

Question 17

Which GTA Character Is This?

The GTA games have always been known for their crazy characters, but the most recent games in the series have taken this to a whole new level, creating entire side stories and missions that are based on your interaction with these insane people. We actually like this addition, as it gets people to interact with the city in a way that they never would've done before. The fact that they also let you skip past them is a good choice.

Question 18

Which GTA Character Is This?

While the series has definitely failed on this front from time to time, we have to admit that there are some characters in the GTA games that we really enjoyed our characters being close with, as they brought a whole new level of enjoyment to the world. They showed that these people aren't too damaged that they can't still make personal relationships with each other, which we think is an important part of the development of a lot of these characters.

Question 19

Which GTA Character Is This?

We don't know how you feel on this one, but we think that the main characters in these game are at their best when they have some form of drive or conflict that goes well beyond money. Money is entirely superficial and can only hold our attention for so long. It brings nothing to anybody's fictional lives but trouble. We know where this is going before it gets to the interesting bit, so it never works out in the way that it should.

Question 20

Which GTA Character Is This?

GTA games try to delve into the world of a black youth in America all the time, but we don't know whether they're truly hit the mark yet. We would like to see them do it, and we think they possibly could as well, but they just haven't quite got there yet for us. That being said, it doesn't mean there aren't black youth in America who feel that these games do show a rather true look at their experience.

Question 21

Which GTA Character Is This?

Yet again, we've gone for a graphically revamped version of this character, but that doesn't mean that those who have been along for the entire GTA ride won't be able to tell who this is immediately. The argument over which GTA game is the best of all time is one that is still fought by many fans of video games. Rather than join in, we just get sad that nobody picks the two most recent installments when they have this argument.

Question 22

Which GTA Character Is This?

The developers of GTA have always been great at making the player hate the people that they come up against during their sordid journey in the GTA universe. This is pretty amazing when you think about it, as most of the games put you in control of some of the most underhanded and psychotic characters that have ever made it into the world of video games. Getting you to sympathize with them while also hating those they come up against is an example of good writing.

Question 23

Which GTA Character Is This?

In future GTA installments, we really want the story to start revolving around the interpersonal relationships of these criminals, as well as their relationship with their families. GTA V flirted with this concept, but it was far too stereotypical and over the top to provide the player with any concrete satisfaction. You didn't play the game to see what Michael's family was like but instead played the game to have fun with the main characters. This isn't a bad thing, but it doesn't always have to be this way either.

Question 24

Which GTA Character Is This?

What do you guys think about video game franchises that choose to create a spin-off rather than a fully fledged game? We don't think there are many examples of them that really satisfied in the same way that an actual entry into the series does. We know that there are examples of it working, but it's not something that we generally enjoy seeing. It promotes the concept that these developers can just pump out something on the side rather than put their full effort into something.

Question 25

Which GTA Character Is This?

We think that it's fair to say the GTA games have a fairly conflicted view of police officers, usually painting them as scumbags who mess with the system, pretending to be the good guys but profiting from crime just like the player characters do. We would love a game in the franchise that actually has you play as someone who is ostensibly on the right side of the law but is corrupted by the outside influences that are in every GTA game.
