Can You Name These COD Zombie Maps?

There was a time when video games were almost entirely catered towards a fanbase considered to be loners, spending their hard earned cash on a machine that ate their coins in a dank basement. We're not saying that is an inaccurate way of describing what a video game fan once looked like, but it's certainly not true anymore. Video games and video gaming are more mainstream now than they've ever been, having managed to force their way out of the niche foundations from which they started.

Now, when people think of video games, they're more than likely to think of some of the most popular gaming franchises, such as Grand Theft Auto and Call Of Duty. These games, in an effort to keep people interested and prop up sales, continue to throw in something new with each iteration in the series. One of the biggest changes for Call Of Duty was the addition of zombies, something that fans now pretty much expect with every new game in the franchise.

Whether or not we think it was a smart addition, we can't argue that it wasn't a popular one. Call Of Duty thrives on multiplayer, so they were never going to point their attention at the single player. Are you one of the people obsessed with the Call Of Duty zombie mode? Do you think you can name all of the maps? Well, time to put your money where your mouth is!

Question 1

Name this map!

We'll be honest, some of these maps have some pretty crazy names, to the point where you're not going to know them without having played them for a long time. What we're saying is, it's time to either go hard or go home if you're hoping to do well in this one. What we will say though, is that this image highlights the fact that the developers started off slow with the idea being you versus a group of rambling Nazi zombies. The idea quickly got more insane with each new game.

Question 2

Name this map!

Without giving too much away, this is one of the first zombie maps that the developers referred to as a campaign map, hoping to take away from the feeling that they'd become somewhat of an arena battle more than anything else. What we're saying is, they'd become stale, so they gave people a goal to work towards while they killed zombies. As a bonus hint, the name is actually a reference to a real life US government experiment that went wrong.

Question 3

Name this map!

Rather than focus on making the atmosphere or characters take the center stage in this one, many believe that the developers started with a vision of a moderate size map that would allow people a lot of chances to accidentally corner themselves, coming up with the setting afterward for once. This is why the map actually takes place on an unknown mountain range where the characters are placed in front of a temple and expected to find their way around.

Question 4

Name this map!

While they may have removed the zombie dogs from this map, something that we were fairly sure they wouldn't be able to top, they did add a new enemy to the roster that is known as the Space Monkeys. That's right. Can you imagine a more hellish enemy than that? It's not surprising, what with this map actually taking place in an abandoned Soviet Cosmodrome that there'd be Space Monkeys hanging around, but why would you turn them into an enemy? These people are clearly evil.

Question 5

Name this map!

Rather than rest on their laurels and keep things easy with a repeated pack of zombie maps that did nothing new, the developers decided to bring in some celebrity faces. Yeah, that's right, they actually got celebrities to come in! This way, people got to play as and listen to a familiar voice while they were blasting away at zombies, an easy trick but one we imagine definitely worked. George A. Romero even made a cameo as one of the zombies!

Question 6

Name this map!

Like the previous question, this map also involves Nazi zombies, as well as taking place in Berlin. As you can see from the image, it clearly takes place in some form of industrial building that still stands, rather than the destroyed husk of a building from a war just passed. Unlike other maps, the zombies in this one actually started to get more aggressive, allowing for much more frenzied play between you and your friends. What's scarier than fast zombies?

Question 7

Name this map!

People reckon that once you've got to the point where you have to throw your characters into space, whether you're making a video game, book, film or television show, you've gone too far and there's no way that you're still creating quality stuff. You've jumped the shark, and it's time you took a step back to really take a look at what it is you're creating. That being said, games have been able to do it successfully with a healthy helping of irony before.

Question 8

Name this map!

This is the first map in our quiz list to take place in a jungle landscape, something that adds a whole new level of fear to the proceedings. We don't know about you, but we reckon it's scarier to wade through a swamp, slower than the zombies that are chasing you, than it is in a gritty urban landscape. This was also the first map to include any form of zombie dog. Are there two words that are scarier than those when placed together?

Question 9

Name this map!

Rather than carry on with the weirder elements that the developers had started to employ with their other maps, they decided to head back to their roots for this one, pitting you against the violent zombie horde. One thing we keep noticing about these maps is how cold the surroundings can end up looking. This one especially seems to have a purposefully bleak atmosphere about it, as if everything is drenched in gray and steel rather than the jungle atmosphere of the previous map.

Question 10

Name this map!

Rather than the more obvious settings for a zombie attack that the developers seemed to pick for their other maps, this one actually takes place in a theater. We know you've always wanted to see what it would be like to pick off zombies with a gun while you tried to hide among the seats, making sure you didn't lie down in some discarded popcorn. Yes, it's set in Germany again, but that doesn't mean they didn't add in a new form of zombie for you to fight as well.

Question 11

Name this map!

So, one problem that a lot of people seem to have with the Call Of Duty games is that they're essentially the same game over and over again, and yet people still keep buying them! Well, say what you will about the developers, but you have to admit that they seem to be pouring all of their experimental efforts into the zombie maps, especially this one which was a major change from the past. You could also only unlock by way of a secret Easter Egg....

Question 12

Name this map!

We're fairly sure that anybody who refers to themselves as a fan of the Call Of Duty series will know the answer to this one, but just in case, we'll still give you a description. This map is actually famous for taking place simultaneously with another zombie map, and as taking place not long after the end of a normal multiplayer map. They wanted to add to a fan favorite, offering players yet another angle on one of their favorite maps.

Question 13

Name this map!

Of all the zombie maps so far, this is the first one that we know takes place in a post-apocalyptic China, as you can see by the inclusion of a dragon in the image. It's also the first zombie map to take into consideration verticality, as all maps up until this point were centered almost entirely around the concept of being locked in a building or area with zombies, divided only by stairs. In this one, you could jump between gaps, landing softly on mattresses, leaving behind enemies or jumping into them by jumping from floor to floor.

Question 14

Name this map!

Deciding to take on a place that is known to almost everyone, the developers set this zombie map on Alcatraz Island. As you can see by the rather smart dressed zombie in the image, this map takes place in the past, when it was expected that people would wear formal clothing at almost all times. This leads to there being a hilarious juxtaposition between what the zombies are wearing and what state the zombies are in physically. A pretty smart choice if you ask us.

Question 15

Name this map!

One of the great things about writing a story that even flirts with fantasy is that it allows you to do things with the narrative that other stories just can't get away with. This is why this map actually takes you all the way back to WWI, while still having you play as the original characters. How is that possible? Yeah, you guessed it, because they've allowed the characters the ability to travel through time!

Question 16

Name this map!

Connected tenuously to another map in this quiz, this map takes place in Austria, wherein characters that players have already seen attempt to pull together some resistance against the zombie horde. While it may not be offering anything new, we do have to give the developers props for providing one of the biggest maps they've attempted. At least that shows they're trying to give something different to the consumer. This map is actually 50% bigger than the biggest one that came before it!

Question 17

Name this map!

Rather than sticking with the basic zombie enemies for this map, the players have zombified plants and animals thrown at them as the main enemies instead. We don't know about you, but we reckon there's a stroke of genius in that which other video game developers need to pick up on. Why haven't we had a game in which the main enemies were zombified plants? There is a chance to come up with some really weird and experimental stuff with that one.

Question 18

Name this map!

Rather than stick with the standard formula, this map goes for a much different feel and visual style that comes across as fractured and cosmic. This map also offered an ending to an ongoing saga in a string of zombie maps that featured a continuous story. Rather than having the characters fight for their lives against the horde, this story concludes with the players attempting to save their immortal souls. We haven't been following the story either, so trust us when we say you're not the only person who doesn't know what's going on!

Question 19

Name this map!

As you can see by the image we've offered up for this particular map, the developers literally added dragons to this map, something that is seen in no other zombie map. We can only assume that with an end to the string of stories and the fantasy spreading as far as dragons, the developers really can't take these zombie maps in any new directions. We're hoping they prove us wrong, because people really love playing these things, but has it not gone too far?

Question 20

Name this map!

We thought we'd end with one that will really get you thinking by picking a zombie map from the lesser known version of Call Of Duty: Black Ops that was released for the Nintendo DS. At this point, you're probably asking why they bothered to make and release a Call Of Duty game for the DS, but your guess is as good as ours. As you can see by the names, these ones are pretty self-explanatory. If you know it, you know it!

Question 21

Name this map!

Believe it or not, but the developers managed to run out of ideas for the zombie maps, leading to them remaking and remixing some of the maps from earlier games, with this map being an example of that. To be fair, there are some people who don't feel the same way as us, and they like something that gives them a feeling of nostalgia while providing newer elements. We don't really understand it, but at least they're giving the fans what they want.

Question 22

Name this map!

Taking place in a fictional city during 1940, this map continues the trend of introducing off the wall elements in the hope of keeping the zombie map formula fresh. It also features a small narrative element, the characters involved being pushed into this nightmare by a figure who wants them to repent for their sins. Does anybody else feel like us, in the sense that they probably should've just kept the zombie maps as simple as possible throughout this franchise?

Question 23

Name this map!

Chronologically, this is considered to be the last zombie map in the loose timeline that follows the various groups of characters through them all. Beyond that, the map has a friendly NPC character that helps them throughout their zombie killing journey, something that the developers usually don't include in the zombie maps. Carrying on with their move away from the standard killing of Nazi zombies, this map also includes a female ghost that chases the players in the hope stealing points from them.

Question 24

Name this map!

We reckon this might be one of the most famous zombie maps in the entire Call Of Duty franchise, mainly because of the ridiculous concept of the map, but let's just say that if you only got into the series recently then you may have never heard of it. If that's true, let us fill you in on how insane this map is. In this map, you attempt to keep zombies at bay while playing as one of four famous politicians, including John F. Kennedy, Richard Nixon, and Fidel Castro.

Question 25

Name this map!

Now we're back to them attempting something a little bit different, but as you can see by the image, this is just a follow-up to an idea that they've already tried out before. We don't know if the idea was successful, and that's why they decided to create another, but if that's not the reason, the only other option is that they've run out of ideas twice to the point where they have to rehash old ideas as if they were new ones.
