Question 1

Would You Trade Matt Duchene for Alex Galchenyuk?

Trade rumors swirled around Duchene and Galchenyuk all summer, though neither player changed teams. Galchenyuk was eventually re-signed to a 3-year deal, while Duchene is still expected to be moved, with Avs GM Joe Sakic reportedly holding out for a homerun of a deal. Each player is coming off a somewhat disappointing season, particularly Duchene, who put up just 41 points in 77 games.

Question 2

Would You Trade Jordan Eberle for Taylor Hall?

The former teammates in Edmonton have since both moved on to other teams, with Eberle having been dealt to the Islanders for Ryan Strome this summer, while Hall was sent packing to New Jersey a year prior. Eberle scored 20 goals for the 5th straight season last year, though he was a huge disappointment for the Oilers in the playoffs, picking up just 2 assists in 13 games. Hall has never quite lived up to his billing as a 1st overall pick, but is still just 25 and a dangerous offensive player.

Question 3

Would You Trade Connor McDavid for Sidney Crosby?

Crosby is coming off a 4th-straight full (or close enough) season of play after injuries dogged him for several seasons beginning in 2010. He won the Rocket Richard trophy, netting 44 goals in 75 games and won the Conn Smythe for the second-straight year. McDavid signed a monster 8-year, $100 million deal in the offseason after winning the Art Ross and Hart Trophies last year.

Question 4

Would You Trade Roman Josi for Artemi Panarin?

Panarin was dealt to Colombus this summer for a package that included Brandon Saad. He's coming off another strong performance in his sophomore year, during which he put up 74 points. Roman Josi is coming off his best season in terms of possession metrics and has 3 years left on his team-friendly contract.

Question 5

Would You Trade Carey Price for P.K. Subban?

The former teammates are both under contract long-term, with Price's 8-year, $84 million deal kicking in after next season, while P.K. has 5 years left at $45 million on his deal that he had signed with Montreal. Subban is coming off a somewhat underwhelming season, putting up just 40 points and posting a career-worst -8, though his possession numbers were solid. Price had a strong season, though he did falter somewhat down the stretch.

Question 6

Would You Trade David Pastrnak for Leon Draisaitl?

Both players, who are just 21-years-old, signed lengthy extensions in the offseason, with Pastrnak's 6-year, $40 million deal appearing to be the better bargain. Both players broke into superstar territory last year, putting up at least 70 points each, while Draisaitl had an outstanding playoffs, finishing 8th in scoring with 16 points despite the Oilers falling in the second round.

Question 7

Would You Trade Ryan O'Reilly for Mark Giordano?

Giordano couldn't replicate his outstanding 2015-16 campaign during which he scored 21 goals, but he remained one of the best offensive d-men in the league, notching 39 points. O'Reilly had another solid season for Buffalo, scoring 55 points in 72 games, though his production doesn't quite live up to his expensive contract, which pays him $7.5 million per year.

Question 8

Would You Trade Henrik Zetterberg for Alex Goligoski?

While Zetterberg hasn't scored 20 goals since 2011-12, he remains a dynamic offensive player at 36 years of age, racking up 51 assists last year. Zetterberg has 4 years left on his contract. Goligoski is also under contract for 4 years and is coming off a solid 36 point season, though he was a minus player for the first time in his career (though he was on the one of the worst teams in the league).

Question 9

Would You Trade Anze Kopitar for Dion Phaneuf?

Kopitar had a huge setback last year, scoring just 12 goals and 52 points, which instantly made his contract look like one of the worst in the league. Phaneuf is also owed a lot of money over the next 4 years and is coming off his worst offensive season, in addition to having weak possession metrics.

Question 10

Would You Trade Alex Ovechkin for Jamie Benn?

Ovi is coming off one of the worst seasons of his career, scoring just 33 times in 82 games, after 3 straight 50+-goal seasons. Benn also had a somewhat disappointing year, with his point total falling by 20 from a year earlier, to 69. He's owed $76 million over the next 8 years.

Question 11

Would You Trade Logan Couture for Mikael Granlund?

Couture potted 25 goals last season, the 6th time in 7 seasons he's scored at least 20 times. Couture had a tremendous playoff run 2 years ago, scoring 30 points in 24 games as the Sharks reached the Stanley Cup Finals. Granlund had a breakout season last year, scoring 26 goals and 69 points.

Question 12

Would You Trade Scott Darling for Ryan Callahan?

It appears Darling will finally get a chance to be a #1 goalie after signing a 4-year deal with the Hurricanes, which will push Cam Ward into a backup role. Darling was generally very good as a backup in Chicago. Callahan is coming off an injury-ravaged season and has struggled to produce offensively over each of the last two seasons.

Question 13

Would You Trade Patrick Marleau for Evgeni Dadonov?

The 38-year-old Marleau was given a rich 3-year deal by the Leafs that had some people raising their eyebrows. Nonetheless, he'll bring leadership and lots of playoff experience to Toronto. One of Russia's biggest stars, Dadonov will return to the NHL after signing a 3-year deal with Florida. Dadonov had 30 goals and 66 points in 53 KHL games last season. He last played in the NHL in 2011-12.

Question 14

Would You Trade Sean Monahan for Nicklas Backstrom?

Backstrom has been an assist machine throughout his career, racking up 540 of them, which is unsurprising given that Russian sniper he plays with. Whether Backstrom would fare nearly as well away from Ovi is debatable. Monahan is locked up long-term by the Flames and is coming off another solid season, putting up 58 points.

Question 15

Would You Trade Jakub Voracek for Jordan Staal?

Voracek was given an 8-year, $66 million deal after a stellar 81-point season in 2014-15. However, he's been unable to duplicate that success over the past two years, though his possession metrics have remained strong. Staal has 6 years left on the 10-year, $60 million deal that he scored after putting up 50 points in 62 games in 2011-12. Staal has yet to reach the 50 point plateau since.

Question 16

Would You Trade Zach Parise for Steven Stamkos?

Injuries limited Stamkos to just 17 games last year and he wasn't quite as dominant during the prior 2 seasons as what we're used to. Nonetheless, he's still just 27 and a former 60-goal scorer. Parise's monster 13-year contract is already starting to look like a drag on the Wild with 8 years still to go on it. Parise managed just 42 points in 69 games last year and it may be too much to expect a big turnaround for the 33-year-old.

Question 17

Would You Trade Erik Karlsson for John Tavares?

Karlsson has been one of the best defensemen in the NHL for half-a-decade, putting up more than 10 point shares in each of his last 5 full seasons and winning 2 Norris Trophies. Tavares has been one of the most consistent offensive players in the NHL for several years, despite a relative dearth of quality wingers with which to play with in New York.

Question 18

Would You Trade Aaron Ekblad for Victor Hedman?

Both players are in the first year of their 8-year contracts. Though Hedman is 5 years older, he's young enough that age shouldn't lead to any huge decline in play towards the end of his contract. Hedman is coming off a superb season, putting up 72 points and 12 point shares. Ekblad is just 21 and appears to be a franchise defenseman.

Question 19

Would You Trade Tyler Seguin for Max Pacioretty?

Seguin and Pacioretty each have two years left on fairly team-friendly deals, though Seguin is owed $2.5 million more than Patches. Seguin hasn't scored less than 72 points in the last 4 years, while Pacioretty has yet to hit the 70-point plateau. However, Pacioretty has scored at least 30 goals in each of the last 4 seasons.

Question 20

Would You Trade Tyler Myers for James Neal?

Myers played just 11 games last year, though he put up strong results during that time. Neal is on the last year of his contract and will be counted on by Vegas to provide the bulk of their offensive attack. He's scored at least 20 goals in each of his 9 NHL seasons.

Question 21

Would You Trade Evgeni Malkin for Brent Burns?

Burns scored 29 goals last year, the highest total by a defenseman since Mike Green's 31 goals in 2008-09. His 8-year contract signed last November is somewhat worrisome given that he's already 32, but as of now he's one of the best defensemen in the NHL. Malkin has been unable to stay healthy over the last few years, though his results haven't suffered when he's played. Malkin's averaged more than a point per game in every season of his career save for the 2010-11 season. He also had 28 points in 25 playoff games last year.

Question 22

Would You Trade Seth Jones for Shayne Gostisbehere?

Jones is coming off his best season, a 12-goal, 40-point performance for the impressive Blue Jackets. The former 4th overall pick is still just 22 and has 5 years left on his contract. Question 23

Would You Trade Kris Letang for Duncan Keith?

34-year-old Keith has 6 years left on his contract, though at a team-friendly rate of just $5.54 million per year if the 2-time Norris winner can sustain his play into his late-30's. The younger Letang has 5 years left on his own contract, at $7.25 million per year. When he's healthy, Letang is one of the best defensemen in the league, though he's often overshadowed by his superstar teammates.

Question 24

Would You Trade Paul Stastny for Rick Nash?

Both players are on the final year of their contracts and have underperformed recently. Nash has scored just 38 goals the past 2 years after scoring 42 in 2014-15. Stastny's offensive production has also been underwhelming since signing a 4-year deal with the Blues, though he's a solid defensive and possession player.

Question 25

Would You Trade Auston Matthews for Patrik Laine?

Matthews and Laine are both young stars still on their entry-level contracts. Matthews beat Laine for the Calder last season, scoring 40 goals, while Laine scored 36 times and had just 5 fewer points in 9 fewer games played. It's tough to give either player much of an edge at this juncture and both players have plenty of supporters who believe they'll end up being better than the other.
