Calling All Film Buffs! This Quiz Aims To Test Your Film Smarts, Who Can Get 100%?

Movies are central to popular culture, American pop-culture in particular. However, they are a relatively recent invention. It was less than 150 years ago that the first example of modern film emerged. This was Eadweard Muybridge’s 1878 photo series of a running horse and jockey, titled Sallie Gardner at a Gallop. 150 years might still seem like a long time, but at this early stage in filmmaking, movies were generally a simple series of photographs of a single action or scene. It was only in the early 1900’s that plot and storylines develop in these series, leading to the emergence of what we now refer to as silent film. In order to keep the non-visual senses of audiences engaged, film houses would hire pianists to play alongside their movies, leading to the development of a predetermined music score, or soundtrack, that would be played every time a certain movie was projected. The silent era ended with the release of Alan Crosland’s “The Jazz Singer” in 1927, which means that movies with pre-recorded soundtracks have only been around for about 90 years! With a history so short, a true film buff should have no problem acing this thirty-five question quiz.

How well do you know your movies? Are you a true film buff? Take this mix-bag film quiz to find out.
