There is a lot that goes into planning a trip. Everything from packing the right clothing, to knowing a few phrases of the language to communicate, to even knowing what restaurants to drop into are important. Planning can be key, but you do not want to over plan either because you won’t be able to experience the random fun that you have when you sometimes don’t have anything planned. Bringing the right people is also very important. Some trips are family trips, some are friends trips, and some are significant other trips. You have to have everything from the right stuff, to the right plan, to the right people in order to make it perfect.

Would there be a party the whole time everyone was there or would it be better to go on cultural tours and see museums? Maybe it would be better to dine in celebrity chef’s restaurants, or go on outdoor adventures everyday. Snow gear

As we all know, it does not always snow in every location during the winter. However, during the winter it can get pretty cold and white. Maybe you do want to travel to these places during the winter just for the snow. Maybe you want to stay far away from the snowy weather.

Swimsuit

Some people are all about the pool or beach during their vacation. Bringing a swimsuit along is crucial if you are going to get your sun on. You might even bring a couple of suits if you are going to spend a lot of your vacation baking outside. Some people aren't about that though. They'd rather do other things.

Relaxation or exploration?

Are you about relaxation or exploration? Some people are all about getting off their butts and seeing what is out there. Whether it is hiking, kayaking, or even riding on a camel, they just don't want to sit around. While other people just want to spend their vacation relaxing and kicking back.

Culture or food?

During a vacation, two important things to experience are the culture of where you are and the food of the area. Some people place great importance on the food as they want to eat their way through the city they are in, but other people want to really want to experience the culture instead.

It is so nice to travel to a certain culture and eat their specific food because they are the best at it. Some cities offer their cuisine all over the place, but some cities are kind of a hodge podge of what they are known for. What's great about those cities is you can try a bunch of dishes.

Some countries really love their coffee, and I mean really love their coffee. They even have designated drinks and times of day to drink those drinks! Some countries aren't too big on coffee, or would rather drink something else. A good cup of Joe is pretty great in the right places though.

Pick a drink

Every location has their drink of choice. Whether it is a craft cocktail or a craft beer is a different issue. What would be your drink on choice on your trip? Would you go for a delicious Negroni? Would you take a recommendation for a local craft beer? Would you have some tea, or some warm sake?

Bring the dog?

In this day and age, it is becoming so much easier to travel with your furry best friend. Many hotels are allowing guests to bring their pups and are even providing beds, treats, food, and spa treatments for them! Would you bring your dog with you? Or would you leave them home?

Clubs?

To some people, clubbing is a very important part of the trip. Whether you want to meet someone to hook up with or you just want to get your dance on, a club is a great place to let loose and do those things. Would you go clubbing, or would you do other things during that time?

Bring someone

Okay, super important question—who would you go with? Every location offers something a little different, and you have to be going with the right people in order to make the trip perfect. If you didn't bring your spouse to Paris, what would be the point? You have to bring the right people.

Outdoors?

Some trips are indoor trips and some are outdoor trips. Some trips are all about the outdoor adventure. Maybe it is more of a day time location where the best exploring is done in the sunlight. Or maybe it is more of a night time location. Maybe it even is more historical so there are a ton of museums.

Domestic or International?

Some epic trips are planned not super far from home, but other awesome trips are super far away from home. Would you stay domestic or go international? How far would you want to fly on a plane? Maybe you would not even need to go on an airplane at all.

Trip length

Some really far locations are worth staying a while since you put down so much money on the flight. Plus if there is a lot to do there, you might as well stay and get your money's worth. There is no use on flying all the way over there just to turn around a couple of days later.

Work and travel, or total relaxation?

Would you work on your trip or take off? It is hard for some people to put their work down entirely, especially if they are going to be gone for a while. Not to mention if you have a flexible job that works from home. It is too easy to bring your work along for the ride.

Pick a season to travel

Usually people travel during the times that the country they are going to is going to be the nicest. So if it is a super hot country during the summer, they might opt to go during the fall or the winter when it is a little cooler, but if it's a beach town they might go during the summer.

Bring the little ones?

Some places are full of adventure and super kid-friendly, but some places are meant more for adults. Kids would not have as much fun in these places as there is just not a whole lot there for them entertainment wise. Would you bring your kids with you on your trip?

Cultural tour?

Is there so much culture in the location you chose to visit that you want to go on a cultural tour to soak it all in? maybe this tour would show you a bunch of museums, historical buildings, and great places to eat. then you can venture off on your own and check it out.

Theme park?

Some cities have theme parks in them or very near them. Some cities even have multiple theme parks around them. Would you factor this into your trip, or would you rather do other things? It could be a good adventure for you and the family to go on, but without kids is their a point?

Day trips?

Sometimes there are fun places a couple of hours away from where you are staying, but you have to hop in the car, drive a few hours, and possibly stay over night in that location to check it out. It can be really worth it, but it takes time away from the main location you are staying in.

Planning, or go with the flow?

There are pros and cons to doing both of these things. When you plan out too much of your trip, you do not leave time for the random fun things to happen. However, when you do not plan out enough, you are overwhelmed with trying to get things on the schedule and you might miss out on activities.

Souvenirs?

Ah yes, souvenirs. Some places you just have to get them from, and other places you really do not need to at all. The tackier the better though. Who doesn't want a clock made out of sea shells anyway? How about a pair of boxers with a witty joke and a cartoon on the butt? Awesome.

Hotel or Air BnB?

Some locations just warrant a hotel because you want to be close to the city center. Other locations are great with Air BNB because there is no central hub and you might be able to actually save money by going through it. Either way, you will get a great place to stay regardless.

Room service?

Room service is such an awesome luxury. When you are tired and not feeling like finding a restaurant, you can just call down and get your food brought up to you pretty quickly. This makes it easier for you to go about your business and sight see or do whatever your plan is.

Historical location?

Some people like to travel to certain locations because of the history that has happened there. perhaps many wars have been fought there or there have been some interesting events a long time ago that happened. Maybe there are a lot of museums that showcased everything that happened too.

Famous locations?

Maybe one of the reasons you like to travel to this place is because of all the famous people that are there. Whether they are historical or famous now is a whole different thing entirely. It can be cool to learn about people that famously walked in the same places you are walking.

Sweet tooth?

Would you eat a lot of sweets on your trip? Some places are known for their desserts as well as their food, where some places aren't known for their sweets as much. Maybe food is not the main reason why you are traveling to begin with, and dessert is one of the last things on your mind.

Foreign language?

It is okay if you don't speak the national language that they speak when you are traveling. As long as you have a couple conversational words in your head like "hello" and "how are you?" People, for the most part, will try to communicate with you, and in touristy areas will find someone that speaks your language.

Cold climate?

Some places cool down at night, but some places stay scorching hot all day and all night no matter what. There is no use bringing a sweatshirt if it is always going to be so hot. However, if you are going somewhere where it cools down a lot after the sun goes down, then you should bring them.

Celebrity chef's restaurant or a mom and pop shop?

Some cities are all about the fancy cuisine and the celebrity chef restaurants, but other cities are all about the mom and pop shops. Mom and pop shops carefully make everything by hand, and taste like your own mother would make them, but a celebrity chef makes things fancy.

Night Owl?

Some places are the types of places where it is best to get up early and start you adventure. Other places are all about the nightlife, so you would stay up later. Would you go to bed early or stay up late? If it is a clubbing town, then you would obviously stay up later, but if you're not into clubbing then you probably won't.

Rent some wheels?

Renting a car can be great if you plan on traveling while you are traveling. If you plan on staying put while you are traveling, then it can be a waste of money and you can rely on Uber or cabs to get you where you need to go. Would you rent a car while you are on your trip?

Bring friends?

Would you bring your friends along on this trip, or would you rather go with your family or your significant other? Friends can be great to go on a trip with, especially if you are planning to party the whole time or if you are planning to go on a bunch of really cool adventures.

Traditional location?

Some locations are a little more conservative with their traditions and the culture where as other cultures are a little more liberal. Maybe you will see a couple making out on the street in one location but in another location you will not see that at all. There is no right or wrong, it's just different.

Early riser on vacation?

Waking up early in some locations can be key to seeing what you want to see. Some tours might start early in the morning, or it might take a while to get to some of the destinations you want to go to. If you are just partying on your trip, this might not apply to you though.

Public transport in a new country?

The public transport in some cities is really great, but in other cities it is not so awesome. In some cities, bums are the only ones to really ride around in the buses and trains. However, in other cities, many of the citizens of the city use it on a daily basis so it is a good idea to use it.
