We've all fantasized, often in great detail, about what our dream home would look like. What the grounds would look like, how many rooms it would have, what type of special features there would be and what the interior design would look like. We know what we want but the problem for most of us is making that dream a reality.
Dream homes don't come cheap, everything costs money so most of us just end up settling for whatever kind of accommodation we can afford until we finally have enough to make our dreams come true.
But today, we are leaving all those money concerns behind us. Today our readers will get to build their ideal homes, without having to worry about the cost, and once they've finished we'll reveal how many kids are going to fill the house up!
All they need to do is decide how big they want the house to be, how many rooms and bathrooms they want, and what they want the garden to look like before adding in all the fun extras like games rooms, cinemas, and pools. The sky is the limit and there are no rules when it comes to the construction of this dream home!
How much land are we going to need to build this house?
Okay, so the first consideration we need to make is how much space are we going to need to build this house? Are we thinking of a massive villa here or maybe something a little more quaint and compact? Before the construction crew rolls in, tell us how many acres we need?
What type of home will it be?
Most of us have a pretty good idea what our dream home would look like because we spend plenty of time thinking about it! We know exactly what it would look like from the outside, what the gardens would look like, what style the house would be, and we even know what type of floors we want!
How many bedrooms are we building?
This is a little tricky because we don't want to end up with a house that is too small for our growing family. But then again, we also don't want a house that feels too big and empty. How many main (and guest) bedrooms will we be adding to this dream house?
How many bathrooms?
There is nothing worse than needing to get to a toilet urgently and finding it occupied. Especially when it's the only bathroom around! Depending on the size of the house, we must make sure that there are enough bathrooms for everyone right? So how many bathrooms should we add?
Will there be a long or a short driveway?
A long driveway can make a property feel more prestigious and it certainly is impressive for our guests. Plus it gives the kids somewhere to play safely. But some people just prefer to have a short and functional driveway instead. Will we be needing a ton of paving for this project or just a few bricks?
Choose a water feature for the front entrance:
There is nothing nicer than the sound of trickling water and it works especially well at the front entrance of a house. We're going to throw in a water feature but we need a little help deciding what will suit this construction better? A pond? A fountain? Or something else?
What will the outside look like?
The exterior of the house needs to blend in with the surroundings and needs to be appropriate for the weather conditions. What kind of materials will we be using for the outside of this dream home? Do we need to order bricks or wood? Do we need to paint? Tell us how it looks?
Should we add a games room?
We all need to place where we can escape from the world for a while and for most of us, that place is home. Now imagining have a room in the house solely dedicated to fun and games? That could work, right? Shall we add a games room to this dream house?
Should we add a bar?
Going out for drinks with our friends over the weekends can get to be expensive quick but what if we had a place where we could entertain our buddies at home? Our very own bar where we could make the rules? Will we be building a bar and entertainment area into this house?
Should we add a library?
Those who love to read need a place to go with all their books and what better place than their very own home library? A cozy room where they can snuggle up and enjoy their favorite reads, all in the comfort of their own home. Want to add a library?
How about an aquarium?
Having an aquarium in the home not only looks impressive but it's also a great conversation starter for our guests. Yes, we might have to clean it and restock it every now and again (and remember to feed the fish) but it's definitely worthwhile. Shall we add an aquarium (or maybe a few!) to this house?
Should we add a pool?
Most people imagine having a pool alongside their dream home. Having a place where we can entertain guests and cool down on hot summer days is a must for most of us. And there are countless designs to choose from - even pools with their very own little islands! Should we throw in a pool next to this house?
How will the landscaping look?
It's not only the actual house that we designing here, we are looking at the overall property. The most important here is what the landscaping, in other words, the plants, trees, and garden features, will look like. Are we shooting for a formal style garden or something a little more interesting?
Should we add a herb and vegetable garden?
Many people dream of being able to go out into their own vegetable garden and harvest fresh produce and herbs to use in the kitchen. Gardens like this do require some skills to maintain but there's huge satisfaction in eating something home-grown! Should we add a garden like that to this house?
How about an orchard?
Ever dreamed of being able to walk through an orchard and just pick fruit straight from the tree? That could be something, right? Well, we could make that a reality. We can plant an orchard for this house so that everyone could enjoy their favorite fruits whenever they like. Should we add it?
Should we add a conservatory?
A conservatory, which is typically attached to the house on only one side, is a room with either a glass or tarpaulin roof that can be used as a greenhouse to grow plants or as a sunroom during the colder months of the year. Should we add a conservatory to this dream home?
Should we add a gym?
Some of us enjoy going to the gym and getting to interact with other people. But others prefer to build up a sweat in private and this is where having a home gym can be very useful. No more excuses! Should we add a smart home gym to this house?
Should we add a playroom?
Is that the pitter-patter of little feet we hear? Well, if there are going to be kids in the house it's probably a good idea to consider having a designated play area to avoid the rest of the home looking like a war-zone! Will we be adding one?
What about a home office?
Imagine not having to brave the traffic every morning and instead just head off to a home office instead? A fully equipped office is the perfect place to catch up on work or even run a small business, all from the comfort of home! Will this dream home be needing its own office?
Should we add fireplaces?
There's nothing like a roaring fireplace to help warm things up during a cold winter and we could easily add a few into this home. Just make sure to use them carefully! Will we be adding a fireplace or two in this construction or just regular central heating?
Will we need stables?
Horse lovers might want a place on their own property where they can look after their friends and if that is the case we can look at adding stables into the overall design. Nothing says posh like a house with its own stables and family of handsome horses, right?
Should we add a wine cellar?
Horse lovers might want a stable. Fitness freaks might want a gym. Gamers will want a games rooms and wine connoisseurs will definitely be wanting their very own wine cellar to store their collection. Shall we add a wine cellar to this dream home? It's not that hard to do.
Should we add a safe room?
No one wants to think of a scary situation where a safe room might be required but when it comes to safety, we must. We'll need a place with a good sturdy door, supplies, and a way to contact the outside world. We're better off having a safe room and never needing it than the other way around!
What kind of view will the house have?
When all the construction and the decorating of our dream home is finally complete we want to be able to stand in the house and look out and see... well something beautiful right? A dream home has just got to have a dream view! What kind of view will this house have?
Should we add a home theatre?
Having our own mini-home theatre means no more queues, no more waiting, and no more rude people kicking the back of our chair! We can decide exactly what we want to watch and who we want to invite to watch with us. Should we add a private theatre to this house?
Should we add a music room?
Music lovers will want a place in their homes where they can practice their tunes and a music room is perfect for that. And if pianos and violins aren't what we're into, we could always turn this room into a recording studio instead! Should we add a music room?
How about a jacuzzi?
Once our friends find out that our new digs has it's own top of the line jacuzzi we might have a hard time getting them to leave, but that's okay - they can always crash in one of the guest bedrooms. Should we order one for this dream home?
Should we add a meditation/prayer room?
Everyone needs a place where they can retreat from the world and just get in touch with themselves. Perhaps to pray or to meditate or just to slow down their thoughts for a while in a calm, peaceful environment. Will we be adding a prayer or meditation room to this construction?
Should we add a ballroom?
Now if we plan on being fancy and entertaining many well-to-do folks at the same time we might want to think about building a ballroom into the house. This is a place where we could host big parties and events, without ever leaving our property. Shall we do it?
Should we add a visitors cottage?
We might have an elderly relative living with us with us who would really enjoy having their own space. Or we might have a teenager we are desperate to get out of the house. Either way, a guest cottage on the property will meet our needs. Should we add one?
How about a home disco?
Having a bar is one thing, plenty of folks have their own bars at home. But how many people do we know who can boast about having their very own nightclub, at home? Not many that's for sure. Should we go ahead and build a disco into this house?
How about a bowling alley?
There are functional rooms and then there are rooms designed simply for fun and this would be one of the latter! Most bowling fans would love to be able to play without having to leave home and we've got space to add a bowling alley into this house. Should we do it?
Should we add a tennis/squash/basketball court?
Nothing says prestigious like a home with its own tennis courts, does it? But if we're not into playing tennis we might want to have a squash court or even our own basketball courts instead. Imagine never to share facilities again? Just walk out the front and get started!
Should we add a craft room?
Creative people might need space to house all their paintbrushes, glitter and rolls of tape and sometimes a small corner in another room just doesn't cut it. How about we add a craft room onto this dream house with plenty of place for everything? Then we can finally let that creativity shine!
Will there be walk-in wardrobes?
Last, but not least, what are our plans concerning the wardrobes? Because we know everyone is going to need space for their clothes. Will we be adding regular closets or are we thinking of having spacious walk-in wardrobes inside? A clean, uncluttered area, maybe even with a sofa to recline on while we consider our outfits?
