Build Some Nachos And We'll Reveal A Pixar Character Match

All food is good food; that's our take on things. Every food has something unique and scrumptious to offer, but to say that all food is delicious is not to say that all food is created equal, because it most definitely is not. There are certain foods that were meant to be snacks and other foods that were made to be meals. There are some foods that are perfect for serving at parties, and then there are other foods that should be a "had a hard day at work and don't have the energy or desire to cook anything" only kind of meal.

Today, we're exploring nachos. Are they a snack or a meal? Should they be a festive finger food made only for parties, or should we be allowed to whip up a huge batch of them whenever the mood strikes us (which is at least five times a week, by the way)? There's a lot more to this seemingly simple cheese and chip dish than meets the eye. It's time to make some tough decisions, so, here's the deal. Make a plate of nachos, and get a Pixar character twin in the end. From where we're standing, it looks like there are no downsides.

Question 1

What's the occasion?

As far as we're concerned, every day is a good day to make some nachos. You don't need a special occasion to make yourself some cheesy, beany chips. But, let's face it, sometimes nachos are just appropriate, like when you're hosting a party. So, what's the special occasion, or is there one?

Question 2

How many nachos are we talking about here?

Making nachos is kind of like boiling pasta. Things can get out of hand really fast if you're not careful and don't take the time to measure things out perfectly beforehand. Before breaking out the nacho ingredients, about how many nachos are you going to make? How big or small of a portion are we looking at?

Question 3

Choose a person to share them with

Some snacks you don't want to share with anyone else, and we don't think that's selfish. Some snacks, you set aside specifically for yourself just to help you get through the day, like a slice of chocolate cake on a Friday night. But other snacks were made for sharing. Who will you be sharing your nachos with?

Question 4

Pick the perfect chips

Choosing the right chips for your nachos is like picking the right foundation for your house. Okay, well, maybe it's not *exactly* the same, but you get the idea. You've got to pick the right kind of material to begin with, otherwise the whole thing will be off kilter. Pick the perfect chip for your nacho masterpiece.

Question 5

Choose a unique chip substitute

Nachos are a versatile dish, there's no doubt about it. We often think of them being made a certain way, but when you take traditional nacho ingredients and start thinking outside the box a little bit, you'll realize the possibilities are endless! Choose something to make nachos out of that aren't traditionally nacho-y.

Question 6

Pick some beans

If the chips are the bricks of the nacho house, then the beans are the mortar that holds them together. Okay, okay, seriously, that's the last time we use the house analogy for the nacho making, we promise. But, in any case, these nachos won't be worth a flip without some frijoles, so pick the perfect beans now!

Question 7

Sprinkle on some cheese

Oh, cheese, is there any meal that you can't improve? The way we see it, there's a cheese for every dish. There are cheeses for soups, there are cheeses for sandwiches. Heck, there's even a cheese for cake! Make your nachos that much more perfecter by adding a copious amount of shredded deliciousness.

Question 8

Dice up the perfect peppers

Peppers don't just add a snappy, zesty flavor to your nacho creation, they also help dress them up by adding some color. We mean, who wants to eat something with a monotone color scheme? Talk about *YAWN*! Break up the boring and bring in some edible festivity by chopping up some fresh peppers for your nachos.

Question 9

How's about a little pico de gallo?

Nachos are more than just chips, beans and cheese—although, don't get us wrong, that sounds like a solid snack option any day of the week. All's we're saying is, nachos shouldn't be slapped together all willy nilly. They should be lovingly prepared. What better way to show nachos that you care than by topping them with some delicious pico de gallo?

Question 10

Bring on the guac!

Avocados are so considerate. For so long, we thought they were unhealthy because they're full of fat. But then it turned out, hey, it's all good! Avocados may be fat-rich, but it's healthy fat! Thank you, avocados, for tasting delicious and being good for us. Also, thanks for guacamole. We really owe you one, avocados.

Question 11

Sour cream: yay or nay?

So far, your nachos have been carefully chosen, then bedecked with cheese and beans and gently caressed with guacamole. It's hard to picture them getting any better than they are right now, but there's still plenty more to do to them to make them a snack dream come true. The next step in the process? Sour cream.

Question 12

And maybe some onions, too...

Want to take your nachos to the next level? Want to transform that plate of snacks to an outright, full blown, mind-bogglingly tasty meal? Then we have just the thing! Onions. They may not look like anything special, and they may make you cry when you chop them, but they're what you need to make your nachos pack a flavor punch.

Question 13

Chili might be nice

We ship chili and nachos so hard, it's not even funny. They're just meant to be together! Chili and nachos, they're like Rose and Jack from the movie Titanic, except the end result is a lot less sad and a lot more delicious. Pick a chili to ladle into your nachos to add a new layer of yum.

Question 14

Do olive belong on nachos?

Olives. They're not just for martinis anymore. Know what else they're for? Pizzas. And cheesy garlic bread. And let's not forget how great of a finger food they are all by themselves. Point is, olives are versatile and delicious! So pick some to put on your nachos now. We're pulling out all the stops for this snack, baby!

Question 15

Maybe some mushrooms

Mushrooms are one of the very few fungi which are acceptable to eat, and even some of them are on the "not okay" list, and not just because they taste gross, but because they're poisonous. So, pick your 'shrooms carefully. Which ones sound like the perfect addition to your dish of nachos?

Question 16

How about some leafy greens?

Nachos are to tacos what open faced sandwiches are to sandwiches. They're essentially Mexican food, just de-constructed and more easy-going, which means they're messier to eat, but it also means they're a lot harder to screw up. With that in mind, add some lettuce! We know what we just said had nothing to do with leafy green veggies, but just pretend it did.

Question 17

Pick a tasty extra topping

Look, life is short. Far too short to waste it eating food that wasn't prepared with love. Take the extra time to add an extra topping to your nachos and, even though it's hard to get through the wait, you'll be extra happy you did when you sit down to enjoy your snack.

Question 18

Choose an unconventional topping

There are no rules here (aside from all of the arbitrary ones we've laid out so far) so there's really no wrong way to make your nachos. It's perfectly acceptable, even encouraged, for you to freestyle your way through the making of this snack. So in the spirit of cooking anarchy, choose a surprising topping for your snack.

Question 19

Rice sounds nice

It would be wrong, factually and morally, to describe these nachos as the King of Snacks if we didn't add some more carbs to them. Sure, we know chips and beans are pretty carb heavy, but why not throw some more starchy deliciousness on top? It can't hurt, if you don't count the spike in insulin.

Question 20

Meat makes nachos a meal

Without a meat as a topping, nachos are just a snack. Call us crazy for thinking that if you want to, but we guess that's just how we were raised. Meat makes nachos a meal. It makes them more filling, not to mention a lot more tasty, so choose a meat to top off your chips.

Question 21

'Tis the season

The construction of this plate of delight is coming along swimmingly. You've got just about all you need to make your nachos perfect, and then some. These puppies are nearly ready to go! But before ringing the dinner bell on this snack, here's your last chance to add a sprinkling of some seasoning to your creation. What sounds good?

Question 22

To bake or not to bake; that is the question

*Rubs hands together* Alright! The nachos have been assembled to a T, and you're just about ready to eat them. But, wait! What's the best way to cook these things? Do you have the patience to wait for them to bake in the oven, or should you just eat them right now? Decisions, decisions...

Question 23

Choose a condiment

Most snacks and finger foods are supposed to be eaten with a condiment—see chicken nuggets and ketchup, mozzarella sticks and marinara sauce, and chips and dip for more details on that—and we figure nachos are no different. So, if you're so inclined, choose a delicious condiment to serve alongside your nachos.

Question 24

Pick a hot sauce

Some people—and by some people, we mean our brother-in-law—says hot sauce is only for chicken wings, but those people are a little thing we like to call "wrong". Hot sauce belongs on lotsa stuff! Maybe not things like ice cream and birthday cake, but we can too put hot sauce on our nachos if we wanna.

Question 25

Choose a drink to wash them down with

Cookies have milk, PB&J sandwiches have juice boxes, Hot Pockets that stayed in the microwave about ten minutes too long have six-packs of Bud Light. What we're trying to say is, every classic snack has an equally classic drink to accompany it. You can't down some nachos without having something delicious to drink. Choose a delicious beverage.
