You'd Have To Be An Avatar To Name All Of These Characters

Water. Earth. Fire. Air. When "Avatar: The Last Airbender" debuted on Nickelodeon in 2005, it understandably blew everyone's minds. While it was a show for a younger generation, it explored themes that were important for everyone to understand. While some may have grown up with the groundbreaking series, there was no reason you couldn't enjoy it if you were older too.

The show took place in a world divided into four nations, each featuring certain people who could control one of the four elements. It was heavily influenced by Japanese anime, which could be seen in each character's culture. But the inspiration also heavily influenced the fight choreography.

The original series was a tale of good vs. evil; Avatar Aang vs. the evil Firelord. But the individual characters caught in the middle of the Firelord's quest for power were more dynamic than many kids shows that had come before it. The show also eventually received a sequel series that tackled even more complex issues as the themes grew darker and more adult oriented.

The legacy built by creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino is beloved by anyone who has experienced "Avatar: The Last Airbender." And while the animation is astounding, the characters are what made it truly special. But can you remember all of them? How about the ones from the sequel series? Take this quiz to test your Avatar knowledge.

Question 1

What is the name of Aang's love interest?

This character is actually far more than just a love interest to the main character. She helps to teach Aang water bending and goes on her own journey to become a powerful fighter in her own right. Her mother was wiped out by a fire bending raider when she was very young, which is something she has carried with her since. She confronts the man responsible, but is able to let go of her anger and is a better person for it. After Aang defeats the Firelord, they are able to begin their relationship. What is her name?

Question 2

What is the name of the Avatar that came before Aang?

Early on in the show, it is explained that the Avatar is reborn and has been around for an unknown yet presumably very long time. The identity and story of the first Avatar wouldn't be explored until the sequel series, but Aang grew to rely on the wisdom and advice of his past lives in difficult situations. The one he most often spoke to was this member of the Fire Nation. Time and time again, he would try to guide the young Avatar the best way he could. What was his name?

Question 3

What is the name of the Avatar that came after Aang?

While "Avatar: The Last Airbender" (and its subsequent graphic novels) explored all the good that Aang did for the world, it eventually came time for his story to end. The showrunners created a new show focusing on the next Avatar in 2012, though that show would still have strong connections to the original. This Avatar was very different from Aang. Where he was peaceful and soft-hearted, she was hot-headed and often tried to solve too many situations by fighting. But she would learn to grow from that. What was her name?

Question 4

What is the name of this Earth Nation Avatar?

While every Avatar accomplished great feats during their time, not all of them have an island AND a group of warriors named after them. This Avatar is first talked about in Season One when Aang and his friends journey to her home town. There, they meet a group of warriors who have named themselves after her and dress like her. The deeds of this Avatar are shown several times throughout the show, and Aang seeks her advice when deciding what to do about the Firelord. What is her name?

Question 5

What is the name of Aang's firebending master?

This character fills many roles before he teaches Aang firebending. When the show first begins, he was hunting Aang down to bring him back to his father. This was the only way he could reclaim his honor. But he would transition from villain to conflicted antihero to life long friend with some of the best character building seen on the show. By the end, he takes his cruel father's place as Firelord and helps the Avatar bring balance to the world. What is his name?

Question 6

What is the name of this powerful Earth bender?

In the original show, this young blind girl used earthbending as a way to see. The sense had become so heightened that she was even able to tell when people were lying to her just by feeling the vibrations around her. That's seriously impressive, but she also invented the rare form of metal bending. In the sequel series, she shows up in Season 4 to assist the new Avatar with her current struggles. What is the name of this powerful Earth bender?

Question 7

Who is the villain of "Avatar: The Last Airbender?"

"Avatar: The Last Airbender" features a lot of strong character work, especially in their villains. The main villain of the show is the Firelord, whose grandfather began the 100 year war by wiping out the Air Nation (except for the Avatar, of course). He intends to do something similar by using a comet to gain more power and wipe out the Earth Kingdom. Naturally, Aang rises to the occasion and puts an end to it by taking away his bending forever. What is the name of the Firelord?

Question 8

What is the name of this acrobatic fighter?

One of the best things about the fight scenes shown in "Avatar: The Last Airbender" is that every new character who is introduced brings their own skills or fighting style to the table. Not many characters fight the same way as someone else. Take this acrobatic fighter for example. She is a master of chi blocking, meaning she can hit pressure points on the body to temporarily paralyze an opponent or take their bending away for a brief time. What is her name?

Question 9

What is the name of Sokka's love interest?

Sokka is the comedic relief of the show, but a lot of the times he speaks without thinking. This of course leads him to say some pretty stupid things. In one of the show's earliest episodes, the gang meet a group of female warriors. Sokka makes fun of them, thinking there's no way girls could be any kind of warriors. Their leader quickly (and painfully) proves him wrong, and after that, Sokka is much more respectful of their group and women in general. The two even fall in love. What is her name?

Question 10

What is the name of Aang's sky bison?

All of (or at least most of) the animals seen in "Avatar: The Last Airbender" and "The Legend of Korra" are hybrids of two animals. Some of them even have special abilities. Aang's pet is a sky bison, which is a mix between a bison and a manatee. He is the last of his kind and has the ability to fly, which comes in handy while the group is travelling. In "The Legend of Korra," these majestic creatures are shown to have returned. What is the name of Aang's sky bison?

Question 11

What is the name of the Firelord's daughter?

There have been a lot of villains on "Avatar: The Last Airbender," but none of them were quite like this one. The villain of the first season is Zuko, the disgraced son of the Firelord. But he's shown to be conflicted about what he's doing and by the end of the show, he's a full fledged good guy. The Firelord is scarcely seen until the show gets closer to the end, but his daughter is introduced at the end of Season 1 and she is pure evil. Watching her insanity grow was wildly entertaining. What is her name?

Question 12

What is the name of Zuko's uncle?

Though the troubled Zuko never got the love from his father that he wanted, he did get that love from someone else. His uncle travelled with him while searching for the Avatar and did his best to help him figure out what he wanted from life. This character was always offering wisdom to those in need, and the sequel series revealed that when he passed away, he meditated into the Spirit World and left his body behind. It's here that he helps out the new Avatar. What is his name?

Question 13

Which cast member from the original series is this fire bender named after?

There are many ways in which the sequel series references or pays homage to "Avatar: The Last Airbender," whether its through character relations or stories. One of the biggest links to the original series comes in the form of this fire bender, who was named after an original cast member who sadly passed away during Avatar's 2nd season. Question 14

What is the name of the Firelord's grandfather?

The world has this guy to blame for all of it's troubles. He's the Firelord who started the 100 year war in the first place, relying on a comet to gain enhanced power and lead his troops into battle. And after this falling out, he would grow to become ruthless, leaving his friend for dead and slaughtering the Air Nomads. What is the name of this Firelord?

What is the name of Zuko's love interest?

This couple has had more ups and downs than any other on the show. They've known each other since they were kids since her father is a highly ranked Fire Nation official. But when it comes time to chose between right and wrong, her love for Zuko wins out. She's also incredibly skilled with knives and causes her fair share of panic for Team Avatar. What is her name?

Question 16

What is the name of Zuko's mother?

This may possibly be the saddest character in the entire world of Avatar, though it's only so if you know the full story. She isn't shown too much in the show, but she played a vital role in shaping Zuko as a person. His father and sister may have been cold to him his whole life, but his mother loved him dearly. It was always a mystery what happened to her on the show, and the answer was given in the graphic novel "The Search." What is her name?

Question 17

What is the name of Aang's airbending son?

When the show begins, it's explained that their father left two years prior to fight in the war against the Fire Nation. The family is eventually reunited, and he feels incredibly sorry for having to leave his children alone to fight. But it isn't long before they're fighting side by side. What is his name?

Question 19

Who is the earth bending comedic relief from Avatar's sequel series?

In the follow-up series "The Legend of Korra," the creators started introducing much more mature themes. Thus, they needed a character that could make the audience laugh. Time and time again, she relied on him for his awesome skills as a bender as well as a laugh. What is the name of this bender?

While her and the Avatar don't exactly get along at first, they soon become strong allies. What is her name?

These elite warriors wore rock gloves that they could shoot forward to grab anyone in their way. What is the name of this elite earth bending squad?

Question 23

Which of Aang's close friends was his firstborn named after?

In Avatar's sequel series, it is shown that Aang and Katara had three children. While two of them had bending abilities, their firstborn did not. He got through life just fine without it, however. He became a high ranking commander for the United Forces that protect Republic City, but retired shortly after being introduced. Through various events, he gained the ability to air bend in the show's third season and began training with his younger brother. Aang also named his firstborn after a friend of his, but what is his name?

Question 24

What is the name of this villain from Avatar's first season?

To say that this villain had a bit of an inflated ego would be putting it mildly. He strove to become the greatest commander in the Fire Nation and dreamed of a day where people would call him a conqueror. The most dastardly thing he ever did was murder a moon spirit during the show's Season 1 finale, though this would certainly come back to haunt him. He's voiced by Jason Issacs of Harry Potter fame, but what is this character's name?

Question 25

What is the name of this villain from Korra's first season?

He had the unique skill of being able to take a bender's ability away. What was his name?
