Only A Real Man Can Name All Of These Athletes. Can You?

If you’ve ever argued with your friends about who knows more about sports, this quiz could be the key in proving that you know the most.

This quiz will include some of the most popular professional athletes in the world right now, and some athletes who aren’t nearly as popular. To help you out, you’ll be given the player’s head shot, as well as a short blurb about the player. We’ll try to give as little away as possible in the blurb so the answers aren’t too obvious. Oh, and it’s also multiple choice, so there’s no excuses to not do well.

The athletes will be taken from the five major sports in North America (football, basketball, hockey, baseball, and soccer) with a few surprises thrown in. This will require a well-rounded knowledge of all sports, but don’t be discouraged if you don’t know anyone in a certain sport. If you don’t miss on the ones you do know, you can still post a very good score.

Now, this certainly won’t be the end of your arguments with your friends - identifying athletes by their faces is just one aspect of sports knowledge.

This is the only player currently in the NBA that can match the player above on both the offensive, and the defensive side of the ball. If you watched him in college, you would never have thought that this would be possible. Which athlete is this?

While he’s obviously not done yet, this player might go down as the best NHL player to never win the Stanley Cup. It’s hard to figure out how he hasn’t, aside from luck, and bad timing. He doesn’t play poorly in the playoffs, and it’s not like he doesn’t have help. Almost every season he’s played, he’s had good enough teammates to win it all. They just can’t get over the hump. Who knows, maybe this will be the year?

Every single Conference Championship game for the past 7 years. That alone is ridiculous.

Question 6

Which athlete is this?

This athlete not only look like a Monstar from Space Jam, he plays like one too. Only an alien could have the kind of freakish power that this Yankee displays in the batter’s box. In his first Home Run Derby in 2017, he hit an unthinkable amount of 500+ yard homers. Even when reaching for balls low and away, the ball explodes off his bat and clears the fence with ease. The Bronx Bombers are back, and this guy is a big reason why.

Question 7

Which athlete is this?

This player is the unquestioned leader of the “Make Baseball Fun Again” movement. The reason the 5-time All-Star started the movement by wearing a Trump-style hat in a post-game scrum was because he, like others, feel that the sport of baseball can be improved. It’s been criticised for years for being too slow, too long, and not that exciting. Although none of this has made too big an impact on ratings, you’d be stubborn not to admit that most sports could be improved in one way or another. Nothing’s perfect.

Question 8

Which athlete is this?

This is, arguably, the best player to ever set foot on a football pitch, although Real Madrid fans might make an argument about it. Which athlete is this?

This player came out of college a Heisman Trophy winner, with potential that was seemingly unlimited. This player is more or less what LeBron James would look like if he was a quarterback. At 6’5” and 240 lbs., he has the size to break tackles from defensive backs, and even run over some smaller linebackers, as well as run away from bigger linebackers using his 4.59 40 speed. His success in the NFL, however, has so far been limited to one Super Bowl appearance, which was a loss.

Question 11

Which athlete is this?

This baby faced Belgian might very well be the next best soccer player on planet Earth. When you watch him play, there really is no weakness to his game. Sure he can score goals if his team needs him to, but he’s more often the one setting up his teammates. If he isn’t busy setting up his teammates with vicious crosses into the box, he’s likely winning the ball back with his incredible work rate. After the 2018 World Cup, he’ll easily be a household name.

Question 12

Which athlete is this?

This player is a goaltender for the Montreal Canadiens in the NHL. The Canadiens have had many great goalies in their 100+ year history, including Hall of Famers Patrick Roy, Jacques Plante, Ken Dryden, and Rogie Vachon, among others. Almost any other team, and he’s their best goalie in franchise history. It’s a little tougher to do in a history-rich city like Montreal. The point of all this is to say that he’s really good, and if the front office wasn’t so inept he could have a Stanley Cup ring by now.

Question 13

Which athlete is this?

This is undoubtedly one of the most underrated players in the NBA. He’s one of those guys where, on his day, he can absolutely score the basketball at will. It doesn’t even remotely matter who is guarding him. If he gets to his spot, it’s over. He’s underrated for two main reasons: One is that he isn’t even the best player on his team, the other is that his team hasn’t really done much in the playoffs. If his team starts winning more, he should receive the respect he deserves.

Question 14

Which athlete is this?

Well, this is clearly the biggest beard we have in this quiz. If you were to recognize this player by anything other than the beard it would be surprising, so you’re not gonna get too many hints here. Do you know who this beard belongs to?

Which athlete is this?

If you listen to English football pundits, you probably already know that this is the best goalkeeper in the English Premier League. Playing for Manchester United, this player has amassed 90 clean sheets, good for 5th all-time in the EPL. That’s a great record, considering he’s only 27 years old. Since keepers historically play longer than outfield players, there’s a fair chance that he will break numerous records as a Spanish goalkeeper in the Premier League. Do you know who this is?

Question 16

Which athlete is this?

This player has dealt with a lot in his life. After being born to Ghanaian parents, he was adopted by an Italian couple at an early age. When he was young, he was treated poorly due to the colour of his skin. Unfortunately, growing up to be one of the best strikers in Italy, and representing his country on the biggest stage, The World Cup, still couldn’t prevent him from receiving racist abuse. He does his best to fight back against racism in football, but it’s clear it has already taken a permanent toll on his life.

Question 17

Which athlete is this?

Although he doesn’t currently hold the record, there is more than a good chance he will retire with the most goals scored in the history of the World Cup. He currently has 10 goals scored between two World Cups that he’s played in. The all-time leader is fellow German Miroslav Klose, who scored 16 goals in four World Cup tournaments. If this player participates and starts in two more World Cups, odds would suggest that he’ll break the most valuable goal-scoring record in international football.

Question 18

Which athlete is this?

This player was one of the first in the NFL to participate in the protests of the American national anthem played before every game. While the protest was never meant to be disrespectful to the American military, he changed the visual protest from taking a knee, to raising a fist in the air to appease some of his critics, and also started an initiative to work with the Superintendent of police to address social justice issues affecting police and community relations following shootings of unarmed people by police officers.

Question 19

Which athlete is this?

This player’s stats are very interesting to look at. If you look at only his regular season stats, he looks like one of the best pitchers to ever play. If you look at only his playoff stats, you’d wonder why he gets to start so many playoff games. Maybe he’ll be able to handle the pressure of October baseball soon, maybe he won’t. If he can’t figure it out though, his team might have to think about off-loading him. It would be tough, but what’s the point of getting to the playoffs if you can’t win it?

Question 20

Which athlete is this?

If you loved Deion Sanders, or Chad Ochocinco, you'll love watching this young player for the next ten years. Sure, he isn't as talkative and confrontational as either Sanders or Ochocinco, but he's doing his part to bring trash talk back to NFL football. It’s not just on the field either. After a clash with Bengals receiver AJ Green, this player told us exactly what he said to Green that started a fight between the two: “I told him he was soft.” Amazing.

Question 21

Which athlete is this?

Many young hockey players have been called “The Next One”, but this player looks like he might actually live up to the hype. Now, ignore the fact that the nickname makes 0 sense, since unicorns don’t exist either, but whatever. Do you know who this talented 7-footer is?

Question 23

Which athlete is this?

This might be a tough one, because the player hasn’t even finished a full season in the NBA. He also doesn’t exactly play in a big market either, so he’s falling under the radar as well as a rookie who’s averaging over 20 points per game can. In his short time in basketball’s top league, this player has earned comparisons to Dwyane Wade, so it would be a bit of an understatement to say he’s doing well. Who is this promising rookie?

Question 24

Which athlete is this?

Disregard every football scoring record we’ve discussed during this quiz. If you ask this player, he will say that he is the greatest soccer play to ever walk the surface of the Earth. This narcissism has been a very good marketing ploy for this Swedish superstar, as he’s had the opportunity to play for almost every major club team in Europe. He went from Ajax, to Juventus, to Inter Milan, to Barcelona, to AC Milan, to Paris, to Manchester United. He’s also won every league he’s ever played in, except for the English league.

Question 25

Which athlete is this?

This player has quickly blossomed into one of the deadliest scorers in hockey. Developing in an already loaded Tampa Bay Lightning attack, he has reaped all the benefits of his practice, and will more than likely take home the Art Ross Trophy at the end of the season for the player with the most points scored. That’s not the hardware he has his eyes on though. His team should be the favourites to win the Stanley Cup, and that will always take precedence over an individual achievement.

Question 26

Which athlete is this?

This NFL player is borderline unblockable. Even with two players committed to stopping him on each play, he can not only hold off those blocks to fill his hole and make the play, he is capable of splitting the blocks and making a tackle in the backfield. No human being should realistically be able to what he does on a weekly basis, but this is how the Rams were able to get themselves into the playoff discussion. Do you know who this player is?

Question 27

Which athlete is this?

This player easily had one of the best starts to an MLB career in recent memory. In his first six games as a major leaguer, he belted seven home runs. That wasn’t only a record for most HRs in your first six games, it was a franchise record for anyone in the first six games of a season, let alone a career. He predictably ended up tying the record set by Troy Tulowitzki for home runs by an NL rookie shortstop with 27. After regressing in his sophomore season, it’s hard to tell where his future will take him.

Question 28

Which athlete is this?

This player could very well be one of the more underrated players in baseball. WHen people list the best players in the league, his name never comes up. Not even in the top 20. But he’s had some fantastic seasons recently, including 2017 when he batted .318, in 2016 when he batted in over 100 runs, and especially in 2015 when he helped his team, the Kansas City Royals, win the World Series. He’ll have a new team for the upcoming season, however, as he’ll join the Padres after seven seasons with KC.

Question 29

Which athlete is this?

At the beginning of the 2017 season, I’m not sure anybody involved in football believed that this player could take a team to the NFC Championship except maybe himself. And I’d even have a hard time believing that. After jumping up the depth chart two places due to injuries to the players ahead of him, the whole world was waiting for him to make the mistakes they were used to seeing. And he just wouldn’t make mistakes. He was 11-3 as a starter, helping his team to a 13-3 record and the top seed in the NFC. Who is it?

Question 30

Which athlete is this?

This is the only question on the quiz where you’ll need more than just the picture to get the answer right. That’s because this player has an identical twin brother who also plays in the NBA. They were drafted with back to back picks in 2011 with this player going 13th to the Suns, and his brother going 14th to the Houston Rockets. Both are on different teams now. This player is with the Washington Wizards, and his brother plays for the Celtics. While they haven’t played together since college, they’ll likely play against each other in this year’s playoffs.

Question 31

Which athlete is this?

When people talk about how much the Ottawa Senators have over achieved in recent years, you have to wonder if they’re just severely underrating the players on that team. If he can reach the mark again this season, it’ll be his fourth straight season with 25 or more goals. That’s not just fluke anymore, that’s consistency. If the Sens do get rid of Erik Karlsson, a top player in the NHL, I’ll admit that although these players are good, they’ll have an extremely tough time getting by without EK.

Question 32

Which athlete is this?

This player once held the NBA record for 3-pointers made in a Finals series with 27. Unfortunately for him, some guy named Steph Curry broke that record, like he will likely do to every 3-pt record they keep track of. In addition to being a lights-out shooter, he also plays above average defense, and has good basketball IQ.

Question 33

Which athlete is this?

Major League Soccer, along with the Chinese Super League, are the two fastest growing sports leagues in the world. The pictured player has been MLS’ top player each season he’s been in the league, whether they’ve given him the MVP or not. He scores and assists more than anyone else, and he does it in style. One has to think that good performances against better teams in the CONCACAF Champions League could lead to that call up to the Italian National team he’s been waiting for.

Question 34

Which athlete is this?

This player is part of the most dangerous running back duo in NFL football. A 3rd round pick in 2015, this player has amassed 1,540 yards in 351 carries, with an additional 734 receiving yards, and 20 total touchdowns. He was also part of the greatest Super Bowl collapse in recent memory, when his team gave up a 28-3 lead, in part because his coach wouldn't run the damn ball. If I were him I'd still be mad about that.

Question 35

Which athlete is this?

Like another player in this quiz, and many soccer players in Europe, this player was sold unceremoniously by Chelsea F.C. back in 2016. Up until that point, this Egyptian winger hadn’t made too much noise in the European football scene, despite having successful loan spells in Serie A. After he made his move back to England via Liverpool, he took off. In just his first season with the Reds, he has a chance at eclipsing his goal-scoring total in Italy that took him three seasons.

Question 36

Which athlete is this?

It doesn’t really matter what sport it is, if you play for a bad team in Arizona, you’re going to get overlooked by the rest of the league. You have to be truly special to stand out. This player is definitely on his way to doing that. In three of his last five seasons, this player has hit over 32 home runs and notched over 110 RBI. Stats like those are very hard to ignore, so it really is no surprise that he’s made the All-Star Game in each of those five seasons.

Question 37

Which athlete is this?

This player is everything you would want in a defensive end. He is big, fast, skilled, aggressive and mean. His stats are honestly incredible in the few professional games that he’s played in. Will he be enough to transform the awful franchise he plays for? That remains to be seen, but the NFL is a team game. If he can get enough help where he won’t be double-teamed on basically every play. Do you know who this future Pro-Bowler is?

Question 38

Which athlete is this?

Over the past few years, this player has been great for an otherwise abysmal Detroit Tigers squad. In 2015 he was the Tigers MVP, an All-Star, and a Silver Slugger. In 2017, he lead MLB in slugging percentage. He’s not just a hitter either. In 2015 when he won all those batting awards, he also almost won a Gold Glove behind a .993 fielding percentage, best of all right fielders in the AL. He won’t have to worry about playing for a trash team anymore, as he signed a five-year deal with the Boston Red Sox in February 2018.

Question 39

Which athlete is this?

It’s hard to figure out if this player has fallen off in recent years, or if he was just a tad overrated to begin with. It’s a weird phenomenon with cornerbacks where if the public believes you’re really good, opposing teams won’t throw your way. Then, because teams don’t throw at you often, people think you’re really good when maybe you just haven't been tested. This happened most famously to Raiders-turned-Eagles corner Nnamdi Asomugha, who was exposed after switching teams in free agency. Can you recognize this former Pro-Bowler?

Question 40

Which athlete is this?

If I’m not mistaken, this player leads all active NBAers in total names. The Cameroonian forward has had a long career in the Association after being drafted by the Bucks in 2008. After five seasons in Milwaukee, he’s really struggled to find a long-term home. He’s joined five different teams in the past five years. So to sum it up, he spent his first five years with one team, and the next five with five teams. Hopefully Houston will keep him around for more than just this season.

Question 41

Which athlete is this?

Baseball can be a tedious sport from time to time, so it’s always nice when a player does something a little bit odd. This pitcher has an extremely unique style, where he throws what are called “submarine pitches.” Basically, instead of the throwing motion taking place above the shoulder, his pitching arm is below his waist. The difference between his pitches and other pitchers helps a lot, because batters aren’t used to a release point that low, and it becomes harder to track the ball. Do you know who this Orioles’ reliever is?

Question 42

Which athlete is this?

It’s only been a year, but it’s already hard to remember when the Boston Celtics were a bad basketball team. They were, and not long ago either. They drafted this player with the 3rd overall pick in 2016, and he’s a big part of the young core that’s challenging for the Eastern Conference title behind Kyrie Irving. In his second NBA season, this player is averaging 14 point, 5 rebounds and 1 assist in 30 minutes playing time. It’s a big jump in production from the year before, and there’s nothing to suggest he won’t continue to get better.

Question 43

Which athlete is this?

This is one of a surprisingly low number of Canadians currently on an MLB roster. After jumping around the league between six teams since the beginning of his career in 2009, he’s finally playing for the league’s only Canadian team, the Toronto Blue Jays. This pitcher from Simcoe, Ontario has a career win-loss record of 34-33, and a respectable ERA of 3.71. In 2011, by far his best season, the righty was the NL’s save leader, and took home the Relief Man Award.

Which athlete is this?

This is another good test. Sure you can get the quarterbacks, running backs, and defensive stars right, but how good are you with recognizing kickers? This player joined a team that has struggled at the kicker position for the last few years. As a rookie, he was one of the best in the league until he got injured late in the season. On field goals of 50 yards or more, he was 5-6, good for above average in the NFL last season.

Question 45

Which athlete is this?

This defenseman is one of the more promising players on the Buffalo Sabres. Unfortunately, that isn’t saying much at all. The 6’4” Finnish defenseman was drafted 8th overall in 2013, and has improved basically every stat category each year he’s been in the NHL. From goals, to assists, to PIMs, every number rises every year. So far, his claim to fame has to be the gold medal at the World Juniors in 2015, where he won an award for the tournaments top defenseman.

Question 46

Which athlete is this?

This Lord Voldemort look alike currently plays for Newcastle United. He was one of many players that was probably much too good to be playing in the English Championship, but did it anyway, because he wanted to bring NCU back into the Premier League after a nightmare season had them relegated. This player produces wonderful free kicks and passes, but just lacks a bit of mobility in the midfield. He is good for a tough tackle or two over the course of a game, as most classical English players are accustomed to.

Question 47

Which athlete is this?

This player is a product of the NHL tweaking its rules over the years to benefit skilled players, in particular, players who can skate. And boy can this kid ever skate. He wheels up the ice with pace that really only reminds you of modern NHLers. There was a time when 3rd and 4th liners had to be tough, play well defensively, and make sure they won the battles of strength in the corner. Now it’s different, as smaller players like this one are able to have a bigger impact on the game than “checkers”.

Question 48

Which athlete is this?

This player is the so-called leader of one of the best bench units in basketball. He’s had a winning pedigree since before college, but that’s when he really started to establish himself, leading his team to an undefeated conference regular season in 2013/14. Still, he went undrafted, but was picked up by Toronto immediately after the draft concluded. You’ll also never see this player on a bad hair day, because he gets it cut every 2-3 days. Also, I know what you’re thinking, and no, that isn't Drake.

Question 49

Which athlete is this?

This player aided Nashville on their Stanley Cup run in 2017 by chipping in a pair of goals in five games. That experience has helped him secure a regular spot in one of the best lineups in all of hockey, as he’s now started over 60 games in a season for the first time, and also eclipsed 100 game appearances in the NHL. The 21 year-old forward from Switzerland could have a very long career ahead of himself if he continues to improve.

Question 50

Which athlete is this?

This player was a complete nobody until the 2017 season where he tied for second in the entire NFL in total tackles. The 2016 4th round pick out of Stanford also had a sack and an interception for a Packers team that crumbled without their star quarterback. Though injuries on offense and defense derailed the team’s playoff hopes, at least they were able to find another capable linebacker. You honestly might have to be a Green Bay Packers fan to get this question right. It’s a tough one.
