Batman and Superman are the most recognizable characters from DC Comics, and arguably two of the most well-known characters in the entire superhero genre.
Batman is the vigilante persona of Bruce Wayne - the billionaire philanthropist and playboy - who was inspired to become a crimefighter in Gotham City after witnessing the murder of his parents as a child. He has no superpowers but makes up for it with strong martial arts abilities and an expansive arsenal of weapons. Plus, he is the world's greatest detective.
Superman, aka Kal-el, is the lone survivor of the planet Krypton who was sent to Earth as an infant by his parents. The yellow sun gives him heightened strength and superhuman abilities. When he is not fighting crime and injustice, he works at the city's newspaper The Daily Planet as Clark Kent.
Since they debuted in the early 1900s, both characters have become cultural icons in their own rights. But they could not be more different. Sometimes they are able to put aside their differences and are best friends as well as partners in justice. Other times, they are bitter rivals.
