Are You Having A Boy Or A Girl? Take The Quiz!

3.5K Shares

It is so hard to wait until halfway through your pregnancy to find out the gender of your baby. All you want to do is shop for things, decorate a nursery, and plan for your little one's arrival. Luckily, nowadays there are ways to find out for certain if you are having a little prince or a little princess long before the 20-week ultrasound, which is traditionally when parents choosing to find out the sex of their baby are first able to do so. Before that, the baby's genitals are usually too small to show up on an ultrasound.

But now, you can get genetic blood tests done in the first trimester that will tell you exactly what you are having, and many women are even finding out from a regular ultrasound in the weeks leading up to the 20-week mark.  If you have not had a blood test done, and you have not been able to tell the gender on an ultrasound yet, you are probably getting pretty antsy. In your case, you could take a quiz like this one! No, this quiz will not provide a 100% guarantee of the sex of your newest family member, but incorporating some medical evidence, some old wives' tales, and some tests you can easily perform on your own, it is better than nothing. Besides, it is fun.

So pass the time waiting for that halfway point in your pregnancy, and have some fun with this quiz. You never know; it just might be right!

Question 1

What are you (or your partner) craving?

Cravings are par for the course during pregnancy. The stereotypical pickle and ice-cream snack won't tell you much, though. What you need to pay attention to is whether you are generally craving sweet foods like candy, or salty foods like salt and vinegar chips. This could potentially be a big clue as to whether you are having a boy or a girl!

Question 2

Is mommy's blood pressure generally higher or lower?

Blood pressure is taken every time you visit the doctor's office- whether you are pregnant or not. So you will definitely be aware of whether your blood pressure is high, low, or just right when you are pregnant. There is a theory that says blood pressure can predict gender based on the mother's blood pressure 26 weeks BEFORE conception! So if you had a doctor appointment around that time before you conceived, go back to your charts and see what your blood pressure was!

Question 3

How is the morning sickness?

Morning sickness varies for everyone, and even varies for the same women in different pregnancies. Some women like Kate Middleton, who is currently pregnant with her third child, experience such bad morning sickness that they can hardly function. Others may not have any, at all. Most of us fall somewhere in the middle. What has your experience been so far? It may be very telling of your baby's gender. This is because if you are having a girl, there is more estrogen in your body, and this hormone can lead to sickness.

Question 4

Does one gender dominate dad's family?

Since the sex of your baby is determined by a man's sperm, we need to look to him and his family to possibly determine if you will have a boy or a girl. Sometimes, having a predominant number of one sex can run in families. If your partner's siblings, father, and grandfather all had mostly boys, that could be a big sign that he will have boys, too. And of course, if your partner already has children himself, that could also be indicative of gender.

Question 5

How does mommy feel about her body?

It is not uncommon during pregnancy for a woman to feel like her looks have taken a nosedive. Between the weight gain, bloating, fatigue, and all of the other symptoms, this is totally understandable. But on the opposite side of the spectrum, many women feel at their greatest when pregnant, as if they literally have a glow. It is said that if you are having a girl, she has "stolen your beauty". This is an old wives' tale of course, but you never know.

Question 6

How do mommy's hands look?

How your hands look can be an indicator of whether you are having a boy or a girl. How? Well if your hands are really dry, it is thought that that could mean you are having a boy. If your hands are nice and soft, that could mean you are having a girl.

Question 7

Do the key test. How did you pick it up?

Before you answer this question, you must perform the key test. It is very simple. Just pick up a key the way you naturally would. If you pick it up by the handle, you might be having a boy. If you pick it up by the narrow end, you might be having a girl. If you pick it up somewhere in the middle, you could be having twins!

Question 8

Count the bids outside your window. How many do you see?

Technically for this to work, the bird needs to be a magpie, which is a kind of crow. But you can just use any old bird. According to an old nursery rhyme (which can also determine good or bad luck), the number of birds you see might be a sign of your baby's gender.

Question 9

Are the girls twins or sisters (or maybe even cousins...)?

This may come as a shock to many men, but most women's breasts are not equal in size to each other. This is especially true during pregnancy. It is said that while pregnant, if your left breast is bigger than your right, it could mean you are having a girl. If your right breast is bigger, it could be a boy.

Question 10

Has mom's nose widened during pregnancy?

One old waives' tale suggests that since a little girl is trying to "steal your beauty", your nose will widen and grow just a little bit during pregnancy if you are, in fact, having a girl. It is also suggested that your face may become rounder or fuller. As you can see in the case of Blake Lively, who has two daughters, this rang true for her.

Question 11

How are the mood swings?

Sadly, sometimes being overly emotional and having mood swings is just a part of pregnancy. But there is one good thing about them: they might be able to hint at which gender you are having! Although it might be hard to find a mom-to-be who isn't emotional, severe mood swings could mean you are pregnant with a girl.

Question 12

How is mommy sleeping?

Sleep is essential during pregnancy, so hopefully you are taking it easy and getting a lot of it! When you lie down to take a nap or go to sleep at night, which side do you generally sleep on, your left or your right? This could potentially be indicative of your baby's gender.

Question 13

Let your dreams guide you...

Dreams are often much more vivid during pregnancy, and chances are you have had at least one or two dreams of your new bundle of joy. In the dream, did you experience a girl or a boy? It may seem like it should be the other way around, but it is said that if you dream about a girl you are pregnant with a boy, and vice-versa.

Question 14

What is your nipple color?

Breasts undergo so many changes during pregnancy as your body prepares for motherhood and producing milk for your little one. So it is natural that they will appear different before, during, and after pregnancy. But specifically, the color of your areolas may be helpful in hinting at the sex of your baby.

Question 15

Who was friskier on that special night?

Most women do not know the exact date they conceived their child. Even the women who are actively charting and trying to get pregnant usually have several days where they could have become pregnant. But if you can remember, or if you know that one or the other of you is usually the instigator, it may help determine your baby's gender. It is said that if you initiated sex, you are more likely to have a girl. If your partner did, then you are more likely to have a boy.

Question 16

What does your linea nigra look like?

The linea nigra is the dark line that shows up on your belly during pregnancy that runs vertically down the center of your stomach. Not all women get a linea nigra, but many do and it can be an indicator of gender. If your dark line goes down to your belly button, it might be a sign you are having a girl. If it goes further, it could be a boy.

Question 17

When did you have sex?

Most women know they ovulated either because they are trying to get pregnant and are hyper-aware of every little change in their body and they took an ovulation test, or because they know that they ovulate right in the middle of their cycle. Since boy swimmers are faster but don't last as long, it is said that if you had sex on the day of ovulation it is probably a boy. If you had sex in the days leading up to ovulation, it is more likely to be a girl.

Question 18

What is your baby's fetal heart rate?

One indicator of gender during pregnancy is not just an old wives' tale, but there has been medical evidence that whether your baby's heartrate is under or over 140 beats per minute can indicate gender. This is not true 100% of the time of course, but it is one way to tell with more accuracy than some of the old wives' tales. An ultrasound technician will be able to perform an ultrasound and hear the heartbeat quite early on in the pregnancy.

Question 19

How are you carrying?

This is one of the biggest ways people like to predict if you are having a boy or a girl, because the way a woman is carrying her baby is very obvious, and thus easy to make a guess. It is said that if you are carrying high up closer to the ribs, it might be a girl. If you are carrying lower down closer to the hips, it might be a boy.

Question 20

Perform the pedulum test. How does it swing?

Another really popular gender prediction test that is super easy to perform is the pendulum test, in which you attach your wedding ring (or any ring) to a thread, and have someone dangle it over your belly while you lie flat on your back. Make sure the person's hand is very steady. Variations of this test see the helper holding it over mom's wrist, or her tummy while she is standing. If the ring moves in a circular motion it is thought to be a sign that your are having a girl. If it swings back and forth, you might be having a boy.

Question 21

What is the shape of your bump?

Just as carrying high or low can indicate gender, so can the actual shape of your belly during pregnancy. This may be a useful tool in case you feel like you're carrying somewhere in the middle, not necessarily high or low. The shape of your belly could be pretty round, which would indicate a boy. Or it could be wide and all over the place, which would indicate a girl.

Question 22

What color is your pee?

This very simple urine test is good for two things- possibly predicting your baby's gender, and seeing whether or not you are hydrated enough! Since you are going to the bathroom anyway, just check out your pee and maybe it will indicate the gender of your baby. Dark, neon-like urine supposedly means you are pregnant with a boy, while dull, cloudy, or light-colored urine indicates a girl.

Question 23

Do you have acne?

Pimples, another joy of impending motherhood. Luckily, it is all worth it in the end. For now, if you have a lot of acne, that supposedly means you are pregnant with a little girl. If you have maintained your clear face, you might just be expecting a little boy.

Question 24

Do you have cold hands and feet?

Many women are just always cold, all the time. During pregnancy, women have been known to be hot all the time. But if you are pregnant and experiencing cold hands and feet, it could mean you are having a boy! Of course, it could also mean that you are just cold.

Question 25

Has your hair been growing fast?

Changes in hormones during pregnancy affect a lot of different things, including hair growth. It could make it grow faster or slower, or make it barely grow, at all. You could even start to lose some hair! For some reason, if your hair happens to be growing super fast, it might mean you have a baby boy on the way.
