Are You A One-Punch Man Master? Prove It!

One Punch Man is one of the best anime that I have seen in recent memory for a multitude of reasons. Firstly, it’s a show that knows when to not take it seriously. In a time where most anime are either dead serious or flat out comedic, One Punch Man manages to balance the two perfectly. This is due to the fact that the main character of the show, our bald headed Saitama, is so ridiculously overpowered that his adventures become farcical by nature but still maintain an incredible sense of awe and power. The best part is, Saitama himself knows he’s too powerful and this leads to some great show moments, whether it be him talking about how bored he is or the fact that he missed a big sale causing him to end a fight immediately, the show is full of lighthearted moments in an ocean of drama.

This quiz is designed to test even the mightiest fan’s knowledge of the series and will focus primarily on the anime, but don’t be surprised if you happen to see a question regarding the manga or web-comic somewhere in there too! Be warned: Spoilers lay ahead!

I’d like to give a special shoutout to the One Punch Man subreddit for contributing their thoughts on what they wanted to see in this quiz. Hopefully some of your suggestions made the final cut!

Question 1

What was Saitama's workout routine?

In the first episode of the anime, we are introduced to Saitama and his incredible skills and strength and learn how he is often times bored with his immense power that leaves him feeling unfulfilled and bored. A few episodes later, we eventually hear the story of Saitama's three year long transformation into the hero we know today. What was Saitama's workout routine? Hint: During the summer and winter, it is imperative to never use air conditioning or heating appliances.

Question 2

What threat level is this?

The One Punch Man universe uses different threat level descriptions to assess different enemies that threaten the earth and civilian life. Each level is similar in destructive scale to the defcon system that is used to identify threats in the real world. For the heroes in the OPM universe, certain threat levels aren't even worth wasting time over, which poses an interesting question of ethics in the hero industry. Did you know that the lowest ranking threat level is wolf?

Question 6

What did the big chinned boy do to upset Crablante?

Crablante is one of the first monsters we are introduced to in the anime and he really sets the tone for the show as a whole. His origin story of becoming a crab man after eating too much crab is as ridiculous as it is funny but at the same time it's off-putting considering the fact that he is going on a killing spree during his introduction. What did the big chinned boy do that upset Crablante and set him on his warpath?

Question 7

What triggers Saitama's flashback to Crablante?

In the canon of the anime, Crablante is the first monster Saitama defeats. As a viewer, we know this because the fight happens back when Saitama had hair which makes it at least three years prior to the time of the show and as of the time of writing this, the show has not gone into any further detail on Saitama's past. Hint: Saitama is a huge fan of sales and has a beloved supermarket that is destroyed in the first episode

Question 8

What is the name of Saitama's attack that defeats Boros?

The final fight between Saitama and Boros is one of legend. I love how they use a segment of their fight inside the spaceship as the opening to the show, replacing the traditional opening credits with an explosive battle that rips through the entire spaceship. The battle continues for a majority of the episode before ending in one final attack. What was the name of the final attack Saitama used? Hint: the name of the attack belongs to Saitama's killer move: serious series category of attacks

Question 9

What is the name of Boros' last attack?

Boros comes to earth and is able to decimate almost all of A-city (the exact percentage will be a later question on the quiz, so keep that on the backburner!) Eventually, over the course of a long and grueling battle with Saitama, Boros prepares his final attack that he thinks will be his trump card and end the battle. This explosive attack sends Saitama flying but ultimately, barely even leaves a scratch. What was the name of this final attack?

Question 10

How far does Boros punch Saitama?

Boros is without a doubt, one of if not the most powerful adversary Saitama has faced in the anime thus far. One of his attacks manages to send Saitama flying to one of the most incredible places I have seen in any show, live action or animated. Of course our hero is able to propel himself back to finish the fight in style but this scene was incredible. Hint: The place where Saitama gets punched required him to hold his breath.

Question 11

How much of A-City was destroyed by Boros' ship?

One thing that One Punch Man is known for is its incredible scale of destruction. Whether it be the obliteration of an enemy by one of Saitama's attacks or the destruction of cities caused by the show's monsters, OPM succeeds in creating awesome spectacle and set pieces. A-City is one of the premiere cities in the One Punch Man universe so seeing it destroyed was tough to watch in the show. What is the actual percentage of the city that was destroyed?

Question 12

What is the name of the scientist that creates Carnage Kabuto?

Carnage Kabuto was one of my favorite opponents Saitama faced in the anime thus far. He represented a caged animal mentality that was fully unleashed and unchained once provoked enough, but even he barely stood a chance against Saitama (to no one's surprise). The creation of Carnage Kabuto was one of many that can be attributed to a single scientist who longed to immortalize his name. Do you have the memory to conjure up this scientists name? Good luck to you!

Question 13

Why does Saitama kill Carnage Kabuto?

Carnage Kabuto was one of Saitama's most feral opponents and it showed in his fighting style and absolute rage that emitted from him during their battle. After monologuing about his immense strength and the fact that he is the epitome of evolution and creation, he starts pummeling our hero without relent or remorse. He claims that he will keep attacking Saitama while in carnage mode for an entire week and eventually Saitama is forced to slay this creature and remove it from the earth.

Question 14

What is the name of this character?

In episode two of the anime "The Lone Cyborg," Saitama is assaulted in his home by unknown assailants which he bests fairly easily. The one pictured above would put the Cowardly Lion from the WIzard of Oz to shame and is a well regarded fighter in his inner circle. He taunts Saitama for quite a while until Saitama casually walks out of the ground and defeats him with a swift punch. As per usual, Saitama feels underwhelmed and bored by his strength.

Question 15

Who is this S-Rank hero?

This incredibly strong and dashingly handsome fighter ranks lowest in the S-class hero system, but that doesn't keep him from giving his all in every fight. In the One Punch Man Universe, this hero was incarcerated for his aggressive flirting habits that would often result in him attacking the men he had crushes on. He stood up against the Deep Sea King and was able to fight him for quite some time before being incapacitated. Hint: This hero owns a sweater with a heart on it

Question 16

What do these bird-people call themselves?

These short lived set of aviary demons showed up in an episode of One Punch Man later on in the first season. They enter the scene monologuing about their people and how they have finally found a place that they wish to attack and take the land as their own. As the center read character flings himself down to the Hero Association, he hears his children shout "escape" as they have been killed before the battle even started. This red characters dies a gruesome death as well.

Question 17

Who is this modern ninja?

This purple themed fighter is not a hero, but that does not necessarily make him a villain either. This character first encounters Saitama in the fourth episode of the anime and is emboldened with the thought that he must beat him. After a quick flurry of attacks, Saitama accidentally hits this character where the sun don't shine. Realizing how much damage an accidental attack did, this character decides to retreat to train so that they might actually stand a chance next time.

Question 18

What is Tatsumaki's rank in S-Class?

Tatsumaki is one of the strongest heroes in the Hero Association, but just where exactly does she lie in the official rankings of the Association? Her incredible psychokinetic powers make her a worthy adversary to even the strongest monsters (looking at you Pig God) and she was even able to make a dent in the hull of Boros' ship when he attacked earth. She is often perturbed when she is underestimated or even compared to other heroes because she is very capable in her own eyes and the world's.

Question 19

What is the name of this building?

This building pops up in the third episode of the anime. The following excerpt is from the One Punch Man Wiki: "[This building] is headquartered in a thin, skyscraper-like building with eight floors in a forest approximately four hours walk from Saitama's apartment, although it also connects to expansive underground facilities. The above-ground section of the base was obliterated by Genos upon his and Saitama's arrival. The base's underground facilities include an enormous chamber for combat testing of new specimens, and the containment chamber used to imprison Carnage Kabuto."

Question 20

Who is this martial arts master?

When I first saw this character on-screen, I thought I was seeing an adaptation of Solid Snake from the Metal Gear series in the One Punch Man world. All things considered, that isn't too far of a stretch considering how powerful and somber this character is. He recognizes the strength within Saitama and even remarks to one of his students that Saitama is many times more powerful than he is. Granted, that doesn't keep him from fighting with intense force whenever called upon.

Question 21

What bug drives Saitama crazy?

In the second episode of the anime, we get to see Saitama go about his daily life, which includes watering the plants on his balcony. He gets pestered by a bug repeatedly which would remind anyone of a similar scene from "Breaking Bad" where Walter White becomes obsessed with an annoying fly. The same situation happens here and is incredibly funny because we get to see one of the most powerful beings in the universe be thwarted by a small insect.

Question 22

What is Genos' final attack to try to defeat Mosquito Girl?

As an audience, our first introduction to Genos occurs in the second episode where we seem him assess the threat posed by Mosquito Girl and his eventual meeting with Saitama. During his fight with Mosquito Girl, we get to see Genos' range of attacks and strength as well as the fact that he is moderately underpowered in his fight against Mosquito Girl which he is rapidly losing. What is the final attack Genos does to defeat Mosquito Girl and save the city?

Question 23

Who turned Genos into a cyborg?

Genos was not always a cyborg, as he reveals himself. Everything in his life changed when he was fifteen years old and underwent a series of surgeries that provided him with cybernetic augmentations that would make even Adam Jensen jealous. All these modifications came at an extreme cost however, resulting in a majority of Genos' body being replaced by mechanical parts. This results in increased strength, durability, and the ability to heal himself with relative ease if he is injured in battle.

Question 24

Which of these is NOT a power of the Deep Sea King?

The Deep Sea King was one of the greatest threats to even the strongest heroes in the One Punch Man universe, taking down everyone in his path from Mumen Rider to even Genos himself. Granted, Genos sacrificed himself to save a fleeing child from an acidic death, but I still count that as being defeated by the Deep Sea King. Eventually Saitama enters the scene and is able to take down this overpowered menace. Of the choices below, which power doesn't the Deep Sea King have?

Question 25

Who is this character?

No that isn't a purple Piccolo, but you could have fooled me! This character is the first monster we're introduced to in the anime and from the get go, we see he has incredible strength from the way he destroys the city around him. It isn't until Saitama shows up to rescue a small child that the tide of battle turns and this enemy is quickly dispatched. He has a final transformation and monologue that he goes over as well.

Question 26

How old is Child Emperor?

Child Emperor is one of the most interesting heroes in the S-rank level of the Hero Association. His young age shouldn't be a reason to underestimate him however, as he is incredibly intelligent and also an avid inventor. He has a set of robotic legs that extend his reach similar to that of Doctor Octopus in the Marvel Universe. He is also a very calm and reserved tactician, making him a skilled master and worthy of his high level rank in the Hero Association

Question 27

What is the thumping sound that always happens around King?

King is one of the more mysterious characters in the S-ranks of the Hero Association, especially for fans who only watch the anime. As a character, King knows of Saitama's incredible strength which makes him second guess his own title as the strongest man in the world. He has some heroic moments but is otherwise characteristically cowardly which everyone seems to never see. He has moments where standing in complete fear come off as strength, so I guess luck is on his side!

Question 28

How is Melzargard defeated?

Melzargard is the second wave of attack that Boros sends during his assault on the planet in One Punch Man. He comes after the ship has a devastating destructive explosion that decimates the city. Melzargard has incredible regenerative capabilities and can split itself into multiple forms to take on more than one opponent at a time. In the show it seemed like this character was invincible but Bang is able to defeat him. How does this happen in the show?

Question 29

What time is show on the clock in the credits sequence?

This may be the hardest question on the quiz in my mind considering it is an inconsequential piece of trivia in the overall world of the show, but it is still important. The end credits sequence of One Punch Man always serve as an important break to help the audience catch their breath before the end sequence with voiceover work comes on to preview what the next episode will be about. The clock in Saitama's room always has the same time on it, what is it?

Question 30

What does this character always say?

This character is a low level alien on board Lord Boros' ship in the final few episodes of One Punch Man and seems to operate a few controls along with some of the other crew members. In the show, he has a one liner that he repeats just about every time the audience is reintroduced to his character, what is it? Hint: This character dies along with everyone else inside of the ship, so his catchphrase has something to do with this.

Question 31

How many times does the intro song say "ONE PUNCH"?

The opening title credits to One Punch Man are as epic as they are long. In them we get to see some of Saitama's incredible feats, some of which include punching a star shaped monster into oblivion (I'm still catching up on the manga myself, so if it has a name, let me know in the comments!). The explosive battles and inclusion of most of the characters in the show make the opening one of the best in the genre.

Question 32

What is the name of the monster that showed up in the Z-City outskirts?

This mysterious creature showed up during episode six of the anime as it was wandering around the outskirts of Z-City. It had heard rumors of a gathering of monsters meeting there, but upon its arrival the city is deserted aside from a Golden Ball and Spring Mustachio, which leads to a really cool fight and shows how powerful this monster really is. In my mind, this character should be named after the seaweed like vines and leaves that grow out of its body.

Question 33

When did the anime air originally?

Excerpt from the One Punch Man Wiki: "One-Punch Man (ワンパンマン, Wanpanman) is an anime adaption of the manga by the same name starring Makoto Furukawa as Saitama is animated by renowned Japanese studio, Madhouse, and helmed by famed anime director, Shingo Natsume, (Space Dandy, Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos) and features character designs by Chikashi Kubota. VIZ Media will manage the master license for ONE-PUNCH MAN in North America, Latin America and Oceania, as well as stream the series in the U.S."

Question 34

Who is the strongest character in One Punch Man?

Alright, here it is, the toughest question on this entire quiz. I hoped you've been studying and if not that you at least saved your last bit of luck for now. Because right now, you have to answer what is by far the most difficult, most outrageous question in the whole quiz world: Who is the strongest character in OPM? Let's just say, we know the answer and if you have it in you to come up with the right answer, you win.

Question 35

What is the name of Saitama's Japanese voice actor?

For most anime, there is a divided battle over viewing preference for each audience member. The choice is between watching a subbed anime or a dubbed anime, and each have their benefits. Subbed anime has the original Japanese voice acting and inflection and has subtitles translate for the duration of the episode. Dubbed anime has fully redone English voice acting which negates any need for subtitles. I prefer subbed anime myself to help preserve the original inflection and tone of the show.
