It wasn’t too long ago that being gay was considered to be a big no-no. If you had a good reputation it could be easily ruined if it was discovered or even thought that you were a homosexual. Silver screen legends Greta Garbo, Spencer Tracy, and Montgomery Clift are just a few Hollywood heavyweights that went to great lengths to avoid being outed. Suspicion surrounded Marlon Brando, Marilyn Monroe, and Cary Grant but those celebrities refused to confirm or deny these popular beliefs. Let’s not forget to throw former heartthrob Rock Hudson into the mix.
These days, it seems that someone is coming out of the closet every day. It’s like some kind of a popular trend. Of course, this type of news doesn’t always come as a surprise. Elton John’s gay? Ellen DeGeneres prefers women? Liberace had male lovers? Yeah, we suspected that. It was a little more shocking when the likes of David Bowie, George Takei, and Dick Sargent came out. Still, those that do come forward and admit that they are LBGT should be applauded for their bravery. Admitting that you are gay isn’t one of those things that you can simply undo.
