Anyone Who Aces This Harry Potter Quiz Must Be A Slytherin

Well, now. Here is my thought right upfront about this quiz. I really don't think there are going to be as many Slytherin students out there as I would like to think there are. I think some people might have a bit of trouble acing this quiz. And that's fine, I suppose. It's okay to play for those lesser houses like Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and...Gryffindor. Feel free to have a poorer experience at Hogwarts.

However, for those who appreciate magical purity, cunning, charisma, charm, loyalty and, above all else, self-preservation, then I do hope each and every one of those people here aces this quiz and proves that they have a right to stand in the ranks of Slytherin House. It is a noble house with a noble history, as well as a very clever history.

Full of secrets; of love, loyalty, and loss, and even of cunning and creativity, Slytherin House long stood as the reigning champion of Hogwarts before that celebrity Potter showed up on the scene. But we won't talk too much about him in this quiz. This is about the most superior house of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. This quiz is all about House Slytherin.

Question 1

What is the Slytherin animal?

This should be trivially easy as a starter question. I mean, the animal itself appears on the coat of arms of the Slytherin House. That should be a pretty big tip-off right there. And if there are people here who are not aware of what the Slytherin sigil is, then I am confidently certain that those specific people will not end this quiz as prospective members of the House of Slytherin. I'm pretty sure that is just fact. Even just consider the number of creatures that resemble this animal throughout the entirety of the Harry Potter series. There is no excuse here.

Question 2

What are the Slytherin House colors?

The colors may not be quite as important as the sigil, but that does not mean that they are no important at all. I mean, for example, if a Slytherin member were to be seen wandering about in Gryffindor colors, I think there might be just more than a few questions that would need answering from that student. And let's be honest, they wouldn't be asked and left well enough alone. I'm sure they would be followed by some sort of punishment for playing along with the enemy. At least, that is my take on the importance of supporting the right house colors.

Question 3

Who was the founder of Slytherin House?

The founder of Slytherin House used to be great and close friends with one Godric Gryffindor. However, they ended up having a fairly bitter rivalry thanks to how each of these men thought that Hogwarts should be run. This debate was largely based on the types of people who would be let in by the school. The founder of Slytherin House wanted to focus on students who had a deeper understanding of magic and a deeper familial connection with magic as well. He figured it would be better to serve those who were fully invested in magic rather than those who came from other walks of life.

Question 4

During most of the series who is the head of Slytherin House?

The head of Slytherin House is very much different to the founder of Slytherin House. After all, the founder was never going to live forever (at least not without the Philosopher's Stone) and it does make sense to pass the torch on to those who will bring the house into the next stage of its life. Throughout the Harry Potter series, there is one magic user in particular who is the head of this house and they are pretty adamant when it comes to the success and the good name of the house. They are willing to do plenty to ensure victory.

Question 5

Was Severus Snape a pure-bred wizard?

This is an interesting question, is it not? I mean, after all, Severus Snape was the one who ended up tossing away his close friendship with Lily Evans by calling her a slur that very much means half-breed or part Muggle. However, someone wants to look at it. So it would be very strange if it turned out that Severus Snape was himself a part Muggle, right? But hey, that is all just my speculation. It would seem odd to slag someone for being partially Muggle-born when one is also of the same sort of lineage. But this answer isn't up to me.

Question 6

Who is Harry Potter's biggest student rival?

Now, to be fair here, Harry actually ends up with quite a few rivals when one really thinks of it. I mean, he ends up competing in the Triwizard Tournament. He is going to end up with a rival or two, right? Especially since everyone thought that he had done something underhanded in order to get into the tournament to begin with. It also doesn't help that there is always someone making him jealous in one way or another. When one really thinks of it, it is amazing just how many great Slytherin qualities Harry actually has. If only he had chosen correctly...

Question 7

Who was the only Black family member not to be in Slytherin?

The Black family is a pretty massive family of witches and wizards and they all have poured their hearts and souls into their work at Hogwarts and beyond, working to create the magical world that they think is best. Of course, not everyone agrees with most of the Black family (not even the majority of Slytherin students), but that is not the point here by any stretch of the imagination, now is it? Anyway, there is a pretty extensive family tree to look at when considering which of the Black family members, immediate or extended, did not attend Hogwarts as a Slytherin.

Question 8

Who are Draco's henchmen?

Here is a pretty interesting one. For whatever reason, Draco seems not to go many places without his loyal duo at his side. And this is actually a trademark component to being a member of Slytherin. While it might seem as though Slytherin students only care for themselves, they are actually deeply loyal, even to a fault, and I believe this is what causes this dynamic duo to follow Draco everywhere he goes, in spite of the things that continually happen to them. And this is likely the reason why Draco keeps them around...that and the key component of self-preservation, of course.

Question 9

Who is the House Ghost of Slytherin?

There are plenty of ghosts and ghouls and otherworldly creatures traipsing around the grounds at Hogwarts but there is only one ghost that is representative of the House of Slytherin. Each house at Hogwarts has their own particular ghost. I have to say that some of them are a bit strange but the stories behind most of them are actually incredibly sad, no matter how comical they may seem flitting about the Great Hall or throughout the hallways of the school. Either way, there is only one House Ghost for Slytherin and anyone prospective Slytherin student should know who it is.

Question 10

Where is the Slytherin common room?

The location of the Slytherin common room is actually very interesting and anyone who really knows much about the Slytherin House, in general, should know where to find the common room. I mean, how is someone supposed to be a Slytherin student if they can't even get to where the Slytherin students meet and socialize? Regardless, it is pretty cool to note that the common room for the Slytherin House is actually under a lake. But that is just some colorful detail for those who might be interested in being a member of the house. I want to know where in Hogwarts this room is.

Question 11

What is Draco's position in Quidditch?

Alright, so here's the thing. It is not exactly like Draco really trained to be a Quidditch player at all. I mean, he might have spent some time working at it, but he did not, by any stretch of the imagination, earn his position on the Slytherin Quidditch team. Ultimately, what happened is that his father decided to make a grand donation of some new Nimbus brooms for the entire Slytherin Quidditch team and that is what scored Draco Malfoy his position on the team. That being said, there are four different positions to be played on the team. Where does Draco fit in?

Question 12

What is Draco's father's name?

Draco's father is a very well known wizard in the witch and wizarding community. It probably does not help that he is known because of how little he regards those below his position, but he is known all over the community all the same. He is in a position of power, to be sure, and that is certainly thanks to his family's noble name and fortune. If not for that, it is very likely that Draco may have ended up befriending Harry sometime early on in their school days. Given that the Malfoy name is so honored and respected, it should be easy to choose the right name for Draco's dad.

Question 13

Did Harry almost end up in Slytherin?

This is an interesting case. I mean, it might not be easy to tell for sure if the Sorting Hat is ever thinking for sure that a student is going to go one way or another. Maybe he really does care about what the student does or does not want. But I think a lot of what comes from the Sorting Hat's decisions are based on the qualities of the student more than their own personal wishes. And the Sorting Hat can not only discover the qualities of a given student, but he can also discover just how pure a student is magically.

Question 14

What are three Slytherin characteristics the Sorting Hat considered?

There are many qualities that I'm sure people are thinking of now that would fit a typical member of Slytherin. A lot of people might think that there are a lot of negative traits that could be given to a particular student of Slytherin House but the traits that I am looking for here are not necessarily negative in and of themselves. There is actually a really good base in terms of traits for a Slytherin student. Sure, the chances that they will use these traits for some sort of negative acts are heightened because of the house they're in, but that's not the point.

Question 15

Who is Draco's mother?

Draco's mother has a very interesting name. It happens to be...or at least seems to be pulled from the name of a Greek god whose name I will not utter here. Not because he is the one who should not be named but because naming him will obviously give away the answer to the question. So, pretty well unless one knows a decent amount about Greek mythology or unless someone is actually acquainted with the Malfoy family, chances are that people here will be left to guessing the name of Draco's mom. Either way, best of luck on that road to becoming a Slytherin.

Question 16

What is a big factor when sorting Slytherin students?

I find it very interesting that the Sorting Hat really does seem to take things that Salazar Slytherin wanted specifically for Slytherin House and actually does implement some manner of discretion when it comes to his selections for the house. I mean, I would not expect the Sorting Hat to really alter its choices based on some pretty intense feelings of the founder of the house. That being said, there are some pretty similar qualities in people from each house. Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw have their own main attributes, and so to do Gryffindor and Slytherin. So, what big factor is considered in choosing Slytherin students?

Question 17

What initially caused the rivalry between Harry and Draco?

A lot of people out there (probably mainly Gryffindor people) will do their best to convince everyone that it was Draco Malfoy who started the who rivalry between he and Harry Potter. I would suggest that everyone must look deeper into what happened between these two students. Sure, it could be because Harry was already famous without even knowing it and Draco was jealous. Or maybe Draco thought that he could bring Harry into the Slytherin fold...either way, someone started the whole thing and I would say who but that would just help to give away the answer too easily.

Question 18

Who is Tom Marvolo Riddle?

Anyone who has read the book ro seen the movies series will certainly know the answer to this question. I mean, it is a pretty key part of the series. I think it is as early as the second installment of the series that Tom Riddle's true identity is discovered. I mean, there is a whole issue with his journal and a word puzzle within that literally spells it out for people so there really is no excuse for people here. Especially if people here really do want to be students under the Slytherin banner. It is fairly important, I must say.

Question 19

Who is Sirius Black's paternal third cousin?

Before anyone here just jumps to some conclusion about the paternal third cousin of Sirius Black, do keep in mind just how large the Black family is both in immediate and extended family. There are quite a few people who could be chosen here. There are also quite a few people who could be in the lineup of third cousin specifically. Of course, not all of them are paternal and I think those who really know the Black family will know just who it is that I am talking about but for those who might jump to conclusions...take the time to think.

Question 20

Who was head of Slytherin before and following Snape?

Some people have not actually realized that there was much going on before and following Severus Snape was head of Slytherin House but given just how long Hogwarts has been around, there should simply be no surprise at all that there were several people heading up Slytherin before Snape came along. And obviously, especially after the Battle of Hogwarts, there would need to be a new head of the house. This just happens to have been the very same person who served for many years before Severus Snape did and then was given the job yet again after Snape had passed.

Question 21

What does Pure-blood mean?

This is an interesting one that actually plays a big part in throughout the entire series. As it happens, there are plenty of students in Hogwarts as well as teachers and just professionals out in the magical world who think that there is a big issues when it comes to this specific type of purity. And I guess it does make sense to some. I mean, there are definitely those out there who really do not want any sort of mix of Muggle in them or their children. And I guess that is all up to them, if that's the way they choose to live.

Question 22

Who is "He who should not be named"?

This should be perhaps one of the easiest questions to answer in the entire quiz. I mean, anyone here who cannot answer this simple question really is not fit to be a Slytherin member. Realistically, if someone cannot answer this then there really is no right for any of those people to even ever be a part of Hogwarts. Or the magic community overall. I mean, this is a pretty important and pretty easy question to answer. Of course, one does not want to give the answer out loud but that is not the point. This is just checking boxes after all.

Question 23

Who does Voldemort possess?

Oh, this is actually very interesting. All one must do is go right back to the very beginning of the story and it is actually pretty easy to remember who it is that Voldemort went out of his way to possess. And why not? I mean, he needed a way to come back to the magical world even before he could fully take his own form again. So it made perfect sense for him to go out of his way and possess another magic user in order to use them as a pawn of sorts and sneak his way back into the realm.

Question 24

What did Salazar Slytherin leave behind in Hogwarts?

This is a pretty big no-brainer. I mean, Salazar did leave Hogwarts on pretty bad terms thanks to his disagreements with Godric Gryffindor (who did once used to be his very good friend). So, I think it makes perfect sense that he leave something for some true heir of Slytherin to find in the deep recesses of the school of witchcraft and wizardry. Of course, it ends up not really being a Slytherin who discovers this thing. Or rather, it is not a current Slytherin who initially goes out of their way to find this heirloom of the House of Slytherin.

Question 25

What is slang for someone who is part Muggle-born?

This is a pretty big part of the story, for sure. I mean there are specific aspects of the Harry Potter series that are completely focused on this idea of people who are born with at least some part of Muggle family. For some reason, it is an incredibly huge deal. This is what happens when people cannot just accept people for who they are and I suppose that this is just a very interesting way for J.K. Rowling to bring up very real to life issues through the vehicle of her magical realm that is only barely separated from the real world.

Question 26

What does Dumbledore say Salazar Slytherin looked for in his students?

This is a specific and interesting quotation from one Albus Dumbledore. I find that it is interesting that as Headmaster, Dumbledore never really went out of his way to change anything about the way the Slytherin House was actually run. I mean, there are things that Salazar Slytherin wanted in certain ways when it came to the creation and maintenance of his house all those years ago, but it is not really like he is still kicking around and badgering Dumbledore about how to run things at Hogwarts. And it seems that he just sort of ignores how the house runs.

Question 27

Who does Bellatrix Lestrange love?

This is a very interesting one, I happen to think. There is something about Bellatrix Lestrange that might suggest to an incredible amount of people that she probably does not love a single person, and that could totally make sense given the way she seems to act no matter where she is. She does not seem to regard all that much with anyone. And that is sort of what makes her character so cool, even though she is so villainous. But there does happen to be someone, in true Slytherin spirit, whom she loves quite deeply and will do pretty well anything for.

Question 28

Was Tom Riddle a pure-blood wizard?

I'm going to throw in some doubt on both sides of this coin here so that it might muddy up the actual answering of this questions. After all, I don't want to make it too easy for people to get into Slytherin. Otherwise, the house would just be full of every person who ever came out to take a quiz here. And that is just unreasonable. Anyway, it would make perfect sense that Tom Riddle be a pure-bred wizard. I mean, he does not want to have anything to do with those who have Muggle family. That being said, maybe it is his dislike of his own family that causes this...

Question 29

What was in the Chamber of Secrets?

This might have been a pretty important thing. I mean, after all, the entire second installment of the Harry Potter series was just about this place. And this was the most interesting of places that was left behind by one Salazar Slytherin for a future heir to find and exploit. There is something in that chamber that could be used to make Slytherin a far great magical house and not only that but also work its way to fully clean up Hogwarts overall. At least in one way or another. Not that everyone would agree with this very interesting relic.

Question 30

What class did Snape initially teach?

That is right, beyond being the head of Slytherin House, Professor Severus Snape is, as said, a professor. And a very effective one at that. It is for sure that people are going to pay attention in his class. I mean, he demands attention in a very calm yet intense sort of way that instills some degree of unease into his students and who does not want to listen to that voice all class long anyway. I know I would want to. Unfortunately, not only Snape but also the actor who played him have both passed away now. Truly sad.

Question 31

What was the password to the Slytherin common room?

This should be a pretty simple one, I think. I mean there are a lot of things that people in Slytherin might be able to use when it comes to what could possibly be a password to gain entrance to their common room under the lake but I mean there is really only one answer that fully makes sense that they would use that a number of other people might not suspect or might not ever want to use as a password. I'm going to wager that this password is due to the thoughts and practises of the founder of the house, Salazar Slytherin.

Question 32

Was Dolores Umbridge a pure-blood wizard?

Dolores Umbridge is a pretty interesting and pretty bad person. Bad is probably a bit of an understatement when it comes to describe just how she is. I mean, the rules that she implemented when she became the new Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry are pretty nutty. And that is simply to say at the very least. Probably another understatement. Anyway, the topic at hand here is whether or not Dolores Umbridge is actually a pure-bred wizard or not. It would make total sense if she was one given the way that she treats those who are not...

Question 33

Who did the Basilisk hunt?

This is a very interesting question, I think. I mean there could be so many answers here as there are several people who end up getting affected, in one way or another, by the Basilisk. There was an original task for this gigantic creature to accomplish though and, in spite of all the people that it does seem to go out of its way to petrify or try to do away with completely, this task is the main goal of the thing, for sure. I think the scenes with the Basilisk are some of the greatest in The Chamber of Secrets.

Question 34

Is Bellatrix Lestrange a pure-blood witch?

Just imagine this villainous witch some something other than a pure-bred witch. I mean, there is every reason, just like Tom Riddle, why she might actually not be a pure-bred magic user and still want to go out of her way to make sure that all other partially Muggle-born witches and wizards are completely done away with. I mean, if she wants nothing more than purity, she would have to do away with herself, but that is not obviously the point if she is not purebred. And she definitely still loved someone who was partially Muggle-born. So that's something too...

Question 35

What famous wizard from folklore was sorted into Slytherin?

This is sort of a bonus question to see if people actually know this. I only just found this out while doing my research of Slytherin House for the writing of this quiz. It is something very interesting, the answer to this question. I mean, think of all the most famous wizards in the world and think about how many of them are from ancient folklore and how long the characters have lived through our time and then imagine that they were actually sorted into Slytherin. That either goes to show just how old Hogwarts is or how much more recent these wizards really were.
