Which Legend Of Zelda Race Do You Belong To?

Shortly after introducing the world to Donkey Kong and the Mario Bros., iconic video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto struck gold again, teaming up with Takashi Tezuka to create his most epic series yet, The Legend of Zelda. From the very first Zelda game, players were treated to a far bigger world than ever before, filled with unique and interesting creatures. As the technology improve, these worlds only increased in size, as did the populations of the various species the Zelda series gradually introduced.

By this point, the various non-human races Link encounters on his journey are arguably as famous as any other element of his adventures. The Kingdom of Hyrule contains plenty of normal people, called Hylians, who help and hinder the hero of time in his quest, yet fans are more likely to remember the bizarre, tree-like Dekus, the fish-fried Zoras, or the goofy bomb-loving Gorons than they are to think twice about, say, Malon or Talon.

While Gorons, Zoras, and other original Zelda species obviously don’t exist in real life, their personalities types are strongly evocative of actual human conditions, which is part of what has made them so enduring over the years. For this reason, fans of the series may want to hang out with them, or even try and become a member of their unique and at times magical communities. If that’s you, keep reading to take our quiz and find out which race from The Legend of Zelda you would belong to.

Question 1

What’s your weapon of choice?

“It’s dangerous to go alone! Take this!” These were the first words gamers read when plugging in the original Legend of Zelda, spoken by an unnamed old man in a cave as he gave the fated hero of time his first wooden sword. From that moment on, various blades served as Link’s go-to weapon of choice, but it was far from the only implement he would use in his war against darkness. What was your favorite?

Question 2

What’s your favorite recurring enemy/enemies in the Zelda series?

In addition to the many helpful and friendly humanesque species Link runs into on his many journeys, he also finds countless monsters, ogres, freaks and foes of all varieties. Whether he’s in the fields of Hyrule, the mysterious Koholint Island, or the gigantic depths of the Great Sea, these big, bad villains are generally quite similar in their appearances and methods of destruction. Which of these recurring baddies do you have the most fun bashing to bits?

Question 3

Which of Link’s musical instruments is your favorite?

For the most part, Link is remembered for his bravery and strength when saving Princess Zelda and the rest of the world again and again. Something that gets lost in this is the fact the Hero of Time also possesses a pretty incredible range of musical talents, playing literally dozens of instruments throughout his series. In some instances, his instruments of choice were so important the games themselves were named after them. Which one of them was music to your ears?

Question 4

Do you need a strategy guide to explore Hyrule?

More so than almost any other series we’re aware of, the point of The Legend of Zelda is exploration. In almost every game Link appears in, he starts by waking up in an entirely new world for the first time, and few people around him are able to give him any advice on how to navigate through it. For this reason, we wouldn’t necessarily judge you for using a strategy guide or online FAQ to help get through some of the tougher parts. Do you need to?

Question 5

What kind of music do you like?

With Link rocking out on every flute, ocarina, and wind waker he can find, it should be obvious that music plays a huge role in the lives of Hyrule’s many residents. The series has even introduced a few bands to prove it, like The Indigo-Go’s, whose popular “Ballad of the Wind Fish” topped the Termina charts across generations. Not everyone is a fan of the same style, though; what kind of tunes do you like?

Question 6

Which of Link’s items is the most helpful?

Outside of his mastery in regards to basic weaponry, Link is a special hero in his resourcefulness, at times feeling like another classic character introduced that same year in TV’s MacGyver. Give the kid a stick, a magnifying glass, and an ocarina, and somehow, he’ll use them to save the entire world. Of course, Link has a few more resources than MacGyver ever did, but that never stopped him from being just as creative in how he used them.

Question 7

Who is your favorite Sage?

To this day, Ocarina of Time is considered by many fans to be one of the best Zelda games around, and with good reasons. Not only did the N64 release expand Link’s universe more than ever before, but it also introduced a great number of the friends who helped him out from then on as the seven iconic Sages of Time. Each aided Link’s journey immensely and in more ways than one, but who did you like the most?

Question 8

Which Hyrule royalty do you respect the most?

While the Princess of Hyrule is such an important figure in Zelda that her name is part of the title, she’s not even the supreme ruler of the land. As her title implies, Princess Zelda is actually the daughter of Hyrule’s King, and that mysterious figure isn’t the only leader Link encounters in his various journeys. In fact, even his arch rival Ganondorf is the King of Gerudos, though luckily the other world leaders are usually a bit kinder to the Hero of Time.

Question 9

Where would you rather live?

Large and barren though Hyrule generally appears on first glance, the hero of time’s homeland actually has dozens of unique, interesting villages waiting for him and players to find and unlock their secrets. Densely populated and filled with their own unique lore, some gamers might be tempted to forget about the whole “saving the world” thing and decide to simply relax in one of these beautiful little communities. Whether you defeat Ganondorf or not, would you like living in any of them?

Question 10

What was your favorite mask in Majora’s Mask?

As the title would imply, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask put a greater focus than ever before on the art of covering up one’s face with a silly and/or helpful costume. With only four dungeons and a relatively short overall plot, Majora’s Mask was all about the facial attire Link and other inhabitants of Termina were wearing. Thankfully, a few of them even boosted the hero of time’s already considerable skills. Which was your favorite?

Question 11

What’s your favorite color?

In The Legend of Zelda series, asking a person their favorite color is about a whole lot more than which hues they prefer. Typically, Link is seen wearing his classic green tunic, yet there are many instances where he’ll change into a different outfit for highly specialized reasons. Link’s clothing often makes him immune to extreme heats or colds based on the expected colors, but sometimes they just make him stronger in general. Not that any of this matters when it comes to your own favorite color.

Question 12

Are you an athletic person?

Running and rolling his way through the plains of Hyrule to defeat Ganon as quickly as he possibly can, Link could be considered an athletic person regardless of the fact we’ve never seen him play any traditional sports. For better or worse, those of us playing Link’s games can’t exactly make the same sort of claims. That said, if you feel like running around in your backyard makes you “athletic,” go ahead and click that box.

Question 13

What Zelda character is your favorite in Super Smash Bros.?

Allow us to step away from The Legend of Zelda series just for one question to ask about a different classic batch of games we’re sure most quiz takers are well aware of in Super Smash Bros. Initially, regular Link was the only Hyrule resident to join in on the epic battle between just about every video game character Nintendo can get the rights to. Over time, though, Zelda, Sheik, Ganondorf, and various other Links have joined the original as playable fighters. Which do you always choose?

Question 14

What kind of diet do you keep?

Quite frankly, with all the time he spends running around the world and fighting the forces of evil, it’s a wonder Link ever has time to sit down and enjoy a decent meal. It wasn’t until Breath of the Wild gamers were even given the choice to let him do so, so his diet probably never entered their minds. For some reason, though, we bet anyone could guess what Gorons eat, and the same may be true for Zoras, Dekus, and others Zelda races, as well.

Question 15

How many bottled fairies do you take to a new dungeon?

From the original Legend of Zelda onward, fairies have played an integral role in the series through their ability to revive Link to nearly full health at a moments notice. Before long, Link learned how to harness their power in bottles, which would revive players if things ever went wrong and they lost all their hearts. For this reason, cautious or inexperienced gamers might bring a half dozen fairies with them everywhere they go. Do you?

Question 16

What’s your favorite genre of film?

The one downside of living in Hyrule would be the fact the mythical kingdom doesn’t have all that much in the way of entertainment. Roughly 20 games exist in the Zelda series, and yet Link hasn’t even seen so much as a puppet show, let alone a major motion picture. Luckily, gamers aren’t so disadvantaged, and if life in Hyrule ever gets us down, we can turn off our system and check out a movie instead. What genre would you choose to watch?

Question 17

What type of clothes do you wear?

Until Breath of the Wild gave gamers more options for how they could dress Link than we could possibly list in this quiz, the hero of time had a notably simplistic style of dress. Single color tunics that covered him from head to toe were all he ever wore, and it seemed like his reasons were more practicality based than anything else. That said, players do have a choice now, so how would you deck out your hero of time?

Question 18

Could you survive in the wilderness?

Well before Breath of the Wild made it clear in the title, The Legend of Zelda series made a practice of placing Link in the middle of nowhere and forcing the hero of time to fend for himself. With his mystical powers and masterful swordsmanship, Link rarely has all that much difficulty staying alive, but let’s be honest here—most of us probably wouldn’t have the same luck. Would you be lost in the woods, or are you a survivor man?

Question 19

Where do you buy your video games?

It may not seem all that important to kids buying their first game, but older players are probably aware of how important it is to support local businesses in today’s wintery economic climate. This applies double for small, independent gaming stores, which seriously struggle in a world where the Internet and major retailers like GameStop have control over the market. Of course, merely being aware of this doesn’t necessarily mean you care about it.

Question 20

What’s your favorite way to travel around Hyrule?

Making Link’s journey just a little bit harder, not only does the kid have to save the world, but in most games he appears in, the hero of time isn’t old enough to drive. Not that cars exist in Hyrule anyway, so even if we are talking about adult Link here, he needs to find other methods of transportation to search for Ganon and save Hyrule. Luckily, he often finds them, and some are so fun we might just forget about the mission at hand to go for a ride.

Question 21

How do you feel about Zelda’s infamous trading quests?

Starting with the release Link’s Awakening for the Gameboy, The Legend of Zelda series has often included “trading quests” wherein the hero of time becomes a champion of the barter system. The first time around, the long series of trades was necessary to beat the game, while in later releases, they simply gave Link some overpowered items that greatly aided in his quest. Did you rush to finish them, or were they not worth your time?

Question 22

Are there any The Legend of Zelda games you don’t like?

Let’s face it, everyone—not even The Legend of Zelda series is perfect. With over 20 titles to its name, the Zelda team was bound to misfire once or twice, and most gamers would agree they did so more than that. Don’t get us wrong, though, because the good most definitely outweighs the bad, and the duds were few and far between enough it’s easy to just forget about them in hindsight. Unless, of course, you actually played them…

Question 23

What’s your favorite 2D The Legend of Zelda game?

Having existed over 30 years at this point, The Legend of Zelda series has gone through massive transformations on a visual level. Now a fully rendered 3D model, the hero of time was a goofily smiling 8-bit sprite navigating through a sparsely colored 2D world, and some fans will always feel he was better off that way. Maybe you like the more recent games more, but there’s nonetheless plenty to enjoy in the old Zelda classics. Which did you like the most?

Question 24

What’s your favorite video game genre?

One of the reasons The Legend of Zelda series has been so popular is that it combines elements from practically every video game genre there is into one. At their core, Zelda games are adventure based, but Link has to navigate strange lands like he was in a platformer, shoot enemies with his bow like an FPS, and learn from the NPCs who surround him as though he were in an RPG. Not all games can be so ambitious, though, so which genre do you usually settle on?

Question 25

Do you ever use Link’s magical spells?

Believe it or not, with very few exceptions, it’s shockingly easy for Link to get through his adventures without ever once using his magical powers. In fact, we wouldn’t even be surprised if some fans barely realized he had “magical powers,” with how rarely Link calls upon Din’s Fire, imbues his arrows with ice, or does anything else aside from hack at monsters with his swords and sticks. Did you forget, too, or are you constantly causing keese to burst into flames?

Question 26

What’s your favorite console?

From the very beginning, The Legend of Zelda has been a cornerstone of Nintendo. Aside from a few second party titles that are better left unmentioned, the series has always been exclusive to the Japanese company, generally releasing at least one title for every new system Nintendo had to offer. Whether it’s because of the Zelda games they featured or the many others, which system do you love the most?

Question 27

Where’s your favorite place to vacation?

Even the hero of time needs to kick back and relax now and again. Scratch that—more than anyone else, the hero of time especially needs to forget about his troubles and go on vacation after he’s done saving the world. Unfortunately, knowing Link’s luck, his cruise ship would probably crash and leave him on an unexplored island that coincidentally needed someone to save them from calamity.

Question 28

What piece of the Triforce would you hold?

Throughout all of Hyrule, no entity is more powerful nor important than the Triforce. From the first game onward, finding its pieces has been just as integral to Link’s quest as saving the Princess, as he can’t truly save his land without putting it back together and restoring universal harmony. In later games, it’s revealed there are actually three parts to the Triforce, representing the powers of courage, wisdom, and strength. Which would you hold?

Question 29

What’s your favorite 3D The Legend of Zelda game?

With the 1998 release of Ocarina of Time, Hyrule added a third dimension to it’s fields and hasn’t looked back since. Few series evolved as much by going from 2D to 3D as the Zelda games did, as developers used this graphical change to immensely alter Link’s capabilities, making them more and more realistic with each passing release. This can be either a pro or a con depending on how intricate you like your games, so which was your favorite?

Question 30

Are you a hero or a villain?

Given that one of his best known nicknames is “the Hero of Time,” it should go without saying that Link was always working for the forces of good. Just because he’s the primary character gamers get to control hardly means everyone to pick up a Zelda game is equally virtuous, honest, and true. Some players might even feel a little wispy every time they have to kill Ganon, feeling he’s just misunderstood…that’s not you, is it?

Question 31

Do you consider yourself adventurous?

With almost no knowledge of the world that surrounds him, about half of Link’s quest to save the Princess is dictated merely by his own interest in discovering the world around him, learning new things about new places first and foremost, making saving the world almost an afterthought. Are you the same way?

Question 32

Have you ever seen The Legend of Zelda cartoon?

Well, EXCUSE ME, princess! Remember back when this quiz mentioned not every single Legend of Zelda game was necessarily a masterpiece? Well, not even The Adventure of Link looks all that bad in comparison to the short-lived 13 episode cartoon based on the series. That’s what critics have had to say anyway.

Question 33

Have you ever tried a “three heart challenge?”

To many gamers, The Legend of Zelda series is hard enough as it is, meaning they might not even know what a “three heart challenge” is, let alone even consider trying one. For those who don’t know, such an endeavor means going through an entire Zelda game without picking up a single health bonus, forcing Link to survive the whole thing with only the three hearts the hero of time had at the start of his journey. Could you survive such an affair?

Question 34

What non-Zelda series is your favorite?

While The Legend of Zelda is the one series that truly has it all, few gamers restrict themselves to any one game exclusively. Heck, if they did, they wouldn’t be much of a “gamer,” as it takes a well rounded view of the gaming experience to truly deserve that title. Not that we’re trying to be pretentious about things, and if you’ve only played Zelda, there’s nothing wrong with that.

Question 35

What’s your favorite handheld LoZ game?

In the modern era of gaming, the only real difference between a handheld gaming system and the type players plug into their TVs is the size of the screen they get played on. Even so, this seemingly small detail is incredibly important to some gamers, as being able to play a game wherever they want can influence how much they enjoy it. We’re not really concerned with any of the psychology behind it, though; we just want to know which small screen Zelda you had the most fun playing.
