Who doesn’t love a good cocktail on a night out? They are fresh and delicious, especially when you have the right bartender whipping you up your drink of choice. There are also so many drinks to choose from and so many spirits to make up the base of your drink. You can be anything from a vodka lover to a bourbon enthusiast and get a yummy drink mixed to perfection. Whether you like a classic dirty martini with vodka (or gin), a mojito with your favorite rum, or a whiskey neat, everyone always has a drink they gravitate towards when they are out and about.

Here’s the thing though, do you know what is in your favorite drink of choice or do you just order it because it taste good? Likely the latter. Sure, there are people that take their drinking to a whole new level and know the difference between blanco, repesado, and anejo tequilas but not everyone is on that playing field when it comes to what’s being served in their glass. Men and women alike drink this martini despite the fact that many think this is a girlie drink. It’s like an adult lemonade. Yum.

No wonder Sex and the City had this one dialed in.

Ever watch The Big Lebowski? That movie basically revolved around this drink. Regardless, this drink is a creamy and coffee-flavored delicious glass of heaven that pretty much everyone (over the age of 21) can enjoy. It’s another one of those drinks that’s incredibly easy to make; the hardest thing about it is keeping the cream cold. The only bad thing about it is that it is a pretty heavy drink. You can’t pound too many of them without filling up too quickly.

What’s super cool about this drink is that it can also be consumed as a snow cone! Yeah! Some places will actually get some shaved ice and pour it over it; it’s pretty amazing. Otherwise, this drink is a gin-based drink that isn’t overly sweet, which is what many people that drink it love about it. In recent times, it has really gotten a splurge of PR, which has really made its popularity soar. Some believe it is an over rated drink, but others think it is versatile and an easy sipper.

Many college kids (of age) turn to this one as their go-to when they are out on the town because of its alcohol content. There’s pretty much everything but the kitchen sink in this beverage. Oddly enough, it doesn’t taste too bad either. You’d never guess that there was vodka, rum, gin, and tequila all mixed together in this hodge podge of a drink. Who knew that everything could go together in such a copacetic way? If I was a betting person, I’d be out a ton of money.

This is a great beverage to drink with your Sunday morning brunch. Yeah, alcohol in the morning, right? Think of it as a pick me up after a hard night of drinking. But be careful with this one, read those ingredients closely. There are more breakfast beverages than you might think. In Canada, this drink has a slightly different variation, though most bars will have their own recipe anyway. Tomato juice seems to be the standard with the morning concoctions for some reason.

Angostura and orange bitters, vermouth, rye whiskey, and ice

Here’s a super classy drink and as a woman if you order this one you’ll get a man’s attention for sure. It may look like a typical martini, but it is so much more than that at it has a kick of rye rather than some smooth vodka or floral gin like a typical martini. There are a lot of deep flavors going on here as just a few drops of bitters takes this drink a long way. You could also use bourbon instead of rye, but that’s up to the drinker. It’ll just make the drink a little smoother.

Lime juice, sugar, crushed ice, mint leaves, white rum, and club soda

This is a classic drink that is known as a great drink for partying with. It’s fresh and minty flavor is perfect for sipping on while hitting up the bar while on a date, during a night out with your buddies, or during a family event. It’s versatile and a great go-to in pretty much any occasion. It even makes an appearance at many weddings because there aren’t many people that don’t like this drink. It’s just a great decision all the way around.

This is a Southern drink that is known for its presence at the Kentucky Derby. It sounds like it would be a heavy drink, but it actually isn’t as the mint really freshens up the flavor here. Sometimes this drink is also made as a snow cone as it is usually served on hot days out on the racetracks. It has a little bit of everything here, it has a bit of sweetness, minty flavors, a deep bourbon touch, and a cool icy finish. It’s as also a great drink for sipping poolside.

Dark rum, amber rum, fresh orange juice, Cointreau, lime juice, orgeat syrup, sugar, and grenadine

This drink was popular in days passed, but it is still one that is easy to order with pretty much any bartender. Although rum isn’t the most popular spirit at the time, it is a great spirit for the summer season as it brings a sweetness to a drink. Pair it up with some fresh juice and other sweet flavors and you have yourself the flavors of summer in a glass. Get this one while you’re on vacation or while you are outside on a hot summer day. It’s great for all occasions under the hot summer sun.

This drink has a sour punch behind it. Think about it, it has some pineapple and lime juice mixed in there. Pow! Beyond that, it is a pretty simple drink that goes down easy for people that aren’t the most experienced with tequila. Although it is a drink that hasn’t really had it’s time in the spotlight yet, it’s one that should have some time to shine because it’s just so classic and simple. The only problem is keeping track of how many you’ve had because they catch up fast.

Okay, this drink requires an acquired taste because one of the spirits that aren’t always liked by the general public—crème de menthe. That means its very sweet and pretty minty. It’s easy to say this drink isn’t for everyone. However, if you like it, you really like it. This drink might not be the classiest of cocktails, but if you're a fan of mint chocolate ice cream, you will absolutely fall in love with it. If you're feeling adventurous, you can also sub out the cream for some Bailey's (especially one of the flavoured ones. Yum!!).

We’re taking a trip to the tropics with this one. Known for being a girly drink, the sweet flavors in this beverage pretty much wipes out any flavors of alcohol swimming around in here. It’s a classic drink to have while lying on a warm, sandy beach because, come on, it’s pretty much the ultimate vacation drink. Throw some peach slices in there as a garnish and you have a pretty appetizing looking drink if you like incredibly sweet drinks that is.

This looks like a cocktail that is pretty much designed to be had on a boat or while vacationing in Hawaii. It’s basically a tropical version of a lemonade…for adults of course. What’s awesome about this drink is that the vodka mixes right in, so you can barely taste it. Well, I guess that can also make this drink pretty dangerous as well because it’ll just feel like your slurping down straight lemonade. This is another one of those drinks you have to keep track of.

Hot water, tea bag, honey, whiskey, and a squeeze of lemon

This is a great drink to have in the winter months, but it also is great to help with a sore throat. Who knew that alcohol could help with some pesky illnesses? It’s like a cup of tea on steroids that will clear those sinuses up in no time flat. Think about it, you have tea, honey, and lemon. Throw a little whiskey in there and you throw this drink into cold-fighting overdrive. You could also get it at the bar if you’re looking to get some warm comfort during a chilly night out.

Champagne, orange juice

Another brunch staple, this drink is lovely when made right and can get you bombed if you go overboard. It's really easy to over-indulge in this yummy fizzy drink since they're often offered up as a basically appetizers at brunches and garden parties. Fresh squeezed orange juice is always best, as is real champagne (which MUST come from the region of France it's named for, otherwise it's just sparkling wine) but in a pinch, you could use whatever you have on hand. Just no tang please!

This spin on a classic has actually changed quite a bit over the years. Back when it was first invented, the amount of olive juice and vermouth were actually pretty significant. But apparently olive brine is not exactly palatable to everybody. The proportions have been slowly shifting to favor the gin, which sort of makes sense since it is the most alcoholic ingredient. Fun fact: ordering this drink shaken instead of stirred theoretically lowers to alcohol content, which might be why a certain spy likes it that way.

Whisky, simple syrup, bitters, orange twist

Here’s a classy drink that people like Don Draper would have in their hand. It’s sweet, it’s citrusy, it’s stiff, and every bartender seems to think they know the best way to make it. Think of the days of the 1950s bar scene; this is where this drink would have faced a major high point although it has made a comeback. It’s one of those drinks that is simple to make, yet complex when it comes to its flavors. Definitely worth a try.

Here’s another drink that has been popularized by the college crowd as it is a strong drink that really gives you a bang for your buck. All you really need is one or two of these babies to get you fired up, so everyone’s a pretty cheap date while sipping on these bright blue beauties. You wouldn’t think it tastes really good based on its mix, but you’d actually be surprised. Who know all these flavors could play nice together.

Sugar cube, water, rye whiskey, Peychaud's Bitters, angostura bitters, ice, absinthe, and a lemon peel

There are a lot of ingredients listed here, but this is a pretty classy drink. Absinthe is a liquor that is pretty mysterious and typically either intrigues people or sends them running away pretty quickly. Mix that together with some rye whiskey and you have a combo that could raise some eyebrows. All and all this drink is pretty freaking good if you can get yourself to take the plunge, but it is obviously a very strong drink as well so beware.

Orange juice, tequila, grenadine syrup

This cocktail is deceptively simple to make. It relies on science! Okay, really it just relies on the heavier grenadine sinking to the bottom to create a really amazing visual effect. It's actually not the worst drink to choose if you're just looking to get a little buzzes since it's only got a very small amount of liquor as compared to other popular cocktails. Skilled bartenders can knock them out with ease, though you might find it getting a little muddled if you make it on your own.

Dark rum, Baileys, Kahlua, Creme de Coco, ice, and a banana

How great does this drink sound? Then again, anything creamy with some banana is always an awesome treat, am I right? This drink also features a bit of a coffee and chocolate offset so it brings an extra layer of richness to the mix. This is another drink that hasn’t become too popular, but it makes me scratch my head because it has all the potential to become a real showstopper. It has richness, depth, and sweetness all in one glass.

Fresh lime, ice, vodka, ginger beer, and a sprig of fresh mint

This drink has become very popular in recent times and it has a stylish cup that it comes in, which is a copper mug to keep it extra cold. Fresh ginger notes really make the flavor of the drink and muddled lime also complements the ginger. Many people think that muddled mint is part of the concoction, but it isn’t. Mint is only a garnish for this beverage. However, other spirits could be swapped in to replace vodka, but it will change the name of the beverage.

Course salt, ice, gin, and grapefruit juice

Sweetness is not the name of the game when it comes to this drink. Sour grapefruit juice and florally gin make the main flavors of the drink, but salt really enhances those flavors. This is another one of those cocktails that isn’t necessarily popular at the moment, but is a great standby to have in your back pocket because it is a pretty timeless drink. You’ll never go wrong with this one and every bartender knows it like the back of their hand.
