Do you think you're well versed in the heroic talent that exists in Hollywood? Test your knowledge and see if you can identify all of these famous actors and actresses from their superhero roles. And make sure to not be tripped up by characters that have been portrayed by numerous actors.

Question 1

Can You Name This Snarky Actor?

The charming and sarcastic actor has been the face of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2008 (nearly a decade). He was able to make a seemingly unknown character known the world over, and all it took was him acting exactly like himself. It’s one of the age old questions, what came first: the actor, or the Tony Stark persona? He seems to have defined what Marvel is now known for, deep storylines and snappy dialogue. It’s been talked about numerous times over the years that eventually this actor would have to hang the suit up for good, but hopefully he’ll stick around for as long as he can, because it’s hard to picture Marvel films without him.

Question 2

Can You Name This Loud-Mouth?

This man was not born to play Hal Jordan, he was born to play Deadpool. And sure, his performance in the much-maligned Green Lantern film was certainly the best part of that dumpster-fire, but it pales in comparison to how effortlessly he was able to bring Wade Wilson to life. The fast-talking, annoying, and fourth-wall-breaking mutant had a pretty rough initial outing in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and Reynolds fought for years to actually bring the character to life in an authentic and hysterical way. Luckily “someone” was able to leak the tape that started it all, and now we patiently await this actors follow up, Captain Deadpool 2 (just Deadpool 2).

Question 3

Can You Name This God-Like Actor?

This real-life norse god has been the god of thunder for quite a while now in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As much as Iron Man before him, Thor has really made some drastic changes over the years, and a lot of that change has come from this actors natural sense of comedic timing, and overall sense of humor. Taika Waititi is directing the next Thor film, which will see Hulk fighting by his side (more on Hulk later), and it seems to be a big step away from the original Thor outing.

Question 4

Can You Name This Hellboy?

This actor has truly, one of the most badass voices in all of Hollywood, and in addition to that, he can really act. He portrayed the titular Hellboy in Guillermo Del Toro’s franchise by the same name. The beautiful mix of practical and computer generated effects helped to make Del Toro’s world feel real, and his sense of epic and gothic storytelling was able to engage an audience that many other comic book films have failed to reach. It’s hard to think of many actors that could believably portray a cigar smoking, cannon wielding demon, but this actor is high on that list.

Question 5

Can You Name This Gotham Knight?

The Batman himself, this actor was the first to give us a comic-accurate on screen Batman that would be beloved for generations. Burton’s first two Batman films were an epic mix of his gothic thematic and the history of Batman on film and television, and Burton was able to marry his artistic vision with an accurate depiction of the dark knight. It’s hard to believe that this film was made so long ago, what with the modern advancements in computer generated imagery, but the practical wire work and fighting still holds up to this day.

Question 6

Can You Name This Secret Agent Heroine?

The Black Widow herself, this incredible actress has been in some truly spectacular films over the years, from Lost in Translation to Her, she’s proven that she has phenomenal acting range. She’s been in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for years now, and there’s a constant debate in Hollywood over the fact that she’s never been granted a solo movie of her own. It’s only a matter of time now after Wonder Woman was able to pave the way for female superhero films.

Question 7

Can You Name This Smooth-Talker?

The man who seems too cool to ever do something so ridiculously wrong, this actor was unequivocally the worst on-screen Batman of all time. And he’s constantly apologized for even being involved in the movie from the beginning, but that doesn’t erase the film that we got. Batman and Robin almost single-handedly killed any hope for superheroes to get their time in the sun, luckily for all of us, Kevin Feige and Christopher Nolan were able to revolutionize and redefine how superhero movies could be received and created.

Question 8

Can You Name This Shape-Shifting Actress?

This actress has said for years that she would never again paint her body blue and appear as Mystique in Fox’s X-Men franchise films, but year after year she ends up agreeing to do them again. And even though they’re not necessarily the artistic avenue she prefers, her and her incredible co-stars were able to recreate what the X-Men film universe was, which was no small task. Being able to move forward after Brian Singer was able to show an audience what these heroes could look like on the big screen wasn’t easy, and she’s a fundamental part of that step forward.

Question 9

Can You Name This Eye Patch Wearing Actor?

The Avenger Assembler himself, Nick Fury was seen in a post-credit sequence for the original Iron Man film, and this actor has been present in most of the Marvel Cinematic Universe outings so far. This one-eyed badass had easily the best action set piece in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and this actor has been able to put his own stamp on a character that was pretty obscure to anyone outside of the comic book realm. Like Iron Man and Captain America, this actor has changed the way people look at his historic comic character.

Question 10

Can You Name This Dark Knight?

Christopher Nolan and this actor were able to do something that many thought impossible: make audiences and studios forget about Batman and Robin. No longer did people snicker when they heard the term “Batman film.” And this actor was able to bring a sense of class and ease to the character of Bruce Wayne that had yet to be seen on the big screen, and his Batman (though suffering from severe throat problems) was able to strike fear in criminals and the audience alike, which is exactly what Batman should do.

Question 11

Can You Name This Powerful Father?

There are few superhero film speeches that can rival this actors speech in Man of Steel when Clark is first learning of his lineage and testing out his abilities. It’s hard to talk about this scene without getting goosebumps, and even discounting Hans Zimmer’s incredible score, this actor is able to bring an epic paternal figure to the big screen that was previously defined by the incredible Marlon Brando. This actor was as much a part of Man of Steel as Superman himself, and the story of a lost child with two fathers pulling him in different directions is a beautiful theme for a Superman flick.

Question 12

Can You Name This Wonderful Actress?

Wonder Woman. It’s hard to dilute exactly what it is about this actress that makes her so wonderful, but the moniker “Wonder Woman” seems to do the trick. It’s hard to imagine a world where we didn’t get this kind and amazingly outspoken woman to play the most important female superhero of all time (and luckily we won’t have to). Whether or not you’re someone who enjoys the DC films to date, it’s hard to argue that this actress has changed the course of the films for the better, and brought not an overall feeling of levity, but genuine empathy to a cinematic universe that desperately needed it.

Question 13

Can You Name This Storm Bringer?

This actress is on this list for one comic book performance, and one performance only. This actress played Storm in Brian Singer’s X-Men series, and she was certainly never an awful cat-powered hero in a film that never existed. Luckily this actress had enough incredible performances elsewhere, including her turn as Storm, to essentially wipe the slate clean after her horrific performance as Catwoman. And Storm never seemed to be a character that was talked about as often as the rest of the X-Men, but this actress was able to bring something truly special to the table.

Question 14

Can You Name This Killer Batman?

The single most intimidating actor to ever put on the famous cowl, it’s hard not to gush about the kind of performance that this actor was able to deliver in Batman v Superman. Whether or not you’re someone who outright loved the film (I did) or not, it’s hard to argue that this actors portrayal of both Bruce Wayne and his dark alter-ego wasn’t something that comic fans have been waiting for decades to see on the big screen. A Batman that can go into a room of 10 henchman and just annihilate every single one of them was something to behold, and it’s hard to name a more intense superhero fight scene.

Question 15

Can You Name This Super Actor?

This actor, as much as the actors that portray Iron Man, Captain America, and Wonder Woman, just adores the fan favorite character that he’s been given the opportunity to portray. The way this actor is able to shed light on his own personal adoration and insight into his portrayal of the character is amazing. It’s hard to find an actor that is as grateful for the amazing opportunity that he has, and his complicated twist on the classic superhero that we all know and love.

Question 16

Can You Name This Scarlet Speedster?

Our new Flash, this actor has done some incredible, Oscar worthy stuff of his own, building a real name for himself in Hollywood. He’s given some fantastic performances in several films, including Perks of Being a Wallflower and The Stanford Prison Experiment, and from what we’re been able to see of Justice League so far, he seems to be bringing a youthful energy that feels right at home for The Flash. It’s not going to be easy to attempt to redefine a character that is so beloved on the small screen, but if anyone is up to the task, it’s this actor.

Question 17

Can You Name This Real Life King Of Atlantis?

Casting this actor as the King of Atlantis was a stroke of genius akin to casting Wonder Woman. Everyone knew the constant beratement that Aquaman has received over the years, as he’s been made into memes and paradied on shows like Family Guy. But those jokes will no longer apply once this actor gets a swing at the character. We can tell that he’s already a bit of a show stealer from the incredible Justice League trailers, but something tells me that he’s going to manage to steal the entire movie by himself.

Question 18

Can You Name This Sharp-Shooting Actor?

The actor behind this sharp-shooting archer has been in some incredible action films and franchises, and it’s hard to imagine that an audience would be as excited about a character like Hawkeye as they currently are. Hawkeye has had one of the most endearing arcs in all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it’ll be interesting to see exactly how the Russo Bros. will take the character that was so near and dear to Joss Whedon, and develop him even further. This actor is a phenomenal supporting actor that’s proven that he can be as interesting as the headlining heroes.

Question 19

Can You Name This Hulking Actor?

This actor plays the Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he actually wasn’t the first to do so. This actor has shown up in some amazing films over the years, and he virtually disappears into every role that he’s given. From Zodiac to Spotlight, this actor has proven that he can bring some high caliber acting to the table, even when pitted against a stellar ensemble cast. That’s why it’s no surprise that he’s been able to make The Hulk his own, and to create a truly sympathetic character that’s sometimes seen as a brute. Luckily we’ll see some more smashing in Thor: Ragnarok.

Question 20

Can You Name This Little Troublemaker?

In a list of only 50 comic book performances, it began to get difficult to narrow down the selection, but it’s hard to imagine a list without this little scene-stealing mutant. It’s hard to be a young and inexperienced actor jumping into a franchise, and it’s even harder to be truly great in your first outing, but this actress was able to convey emotion better than most adults, and was able to do so with very little actual dialogue. Her hatred and her sorrow were palpable on the big screen, and it will be exciting to see if James Mangold will actually follow-through with his proclaimed concept for a standalone X-23 film.

Question 21

Can You Name This Returning Superman?

Brandon-Routh-in-Superman-Returns

Another actor that was simply dealt a poor hand when it comes to his portrayal of a heroic character, this actor played Superman in Brian Singer’s 2006 film, Superman Returns. And though the film has its redeeming qualities, it was chastised for trying to seemingly replicate the fantastic original Donner Superman film, and failed to grab audiences attention with it’s far too faithful Superman adventure. With that being said, this actor was able to bring a charm and a sense of wonder to the character that hadn’t been seen since Reeves was the one wearing the cape, and that’s saying quite a lot.

Question 22

Can You Name This Ex-Marvel Hero?

The very first Hulk in the Marvel Universe, this actor has proven that he’s a true thespian over the years. From Fight Club to Birdman, this actor has given some varied performances that seem to steal the spotlight away from the incredible actors that he works with. Rumors and stories have been abundant surrounding the reasons why Norton left the Marvel Universe, but it seems to have worked out for the best for all parties involved. Marvel was able to secure an equally talented actor to fill the big green shoes, and this actor was able to work with some of the most sensational directors working today.

Question 23

Can You Name This Big Guy?

This actor is always at the top of every rumor mill list, because he’s able to BECOME the characters that he decides to take on. From taking on Bane in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, to his performance in Mad Max: Fury Road, this actor has given his A game so frequently that it seems he doesn’t know how to phone a performance in. This actor also seems to have a good mix of both blockbuster and indie films, and seems to really pick and choose the creators that he loves to collaborate with most.

Question 24

Can You Name This Incredible Actor?

The single greatest performance in a superhero film belongs to this dearly departed actor. An actor that always seemed to illuminate a production, this man was able to bring something much darker to a character whose depravity seems to know no bounds. This actor transformed the way critics and audiences viewed performances in this genre, and it will be difficult for anyone to give a performance that rivals his turn as the Joker in Christopher Nolan’s masterwork, The Dark Knight. It’s just a shame that we weren’t able to see this fantastic actor go on to stun us time and time again.

Question 25

Can You Name This Jokester?

The reason for Harley Quinn’s delusion, this actor was able to do a job that nobody in Hollywood wanted to do, follow up Heath Ledger in the role of the Joker. It seemed impossible that anyone would be able to outdo, or even come close to what Ledger was able to do, and unfortunately the world was right. And that’s not to say anything against this actor personally, he’s immensely talented, but apparently production troubles and an overall lack of clarity when it came to the character kept this from becoming a historic portrayal, but there’s always time (especially with Matt Reeves directing The Batman).

Question 26

Can You Name This Peter Parker Actor?

Our very first modern age, big-screen Peter Parker. Unfortunately this actor has gotten trashed a bit online over the years, but he was able to bring an emotionality to the character of Peter Parker that some truly missed in the characters latest outing. Struggling with the loss of his uncle and with the feelings for the girl next door, this actor was able to introduce us to a Spider-Man dealing with younger issues without having to keep him in high-school for half the film. And this actor was able to give an even better performance in the second film in Raimi’s trilogy, and was able to hold his own up against Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octavius (both physically and emotionally).

Question 27

Can You Name This General?

Even though Zack Snyder’s 2013 film, Man of Steel was divisive, it’s hard to find anyone that would argue that this actor didn’t give a stellar performance as the antagonist to Snyder’s Superman. This actor is another stellar supporting actor that blends seamlessly into the background of any film he’s in. And that’s not to say that he doesn’t surprise audiences with every character he takes on, quite the contrary, he’s able to “out-act” some of the greatest actors working today in films that they’re headlining.

Question 28

Can You Name This Trickster?

This actor portrays Thor’s maniacal, scheming brother in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and he does so with ease. Loki is without a doubt one of the best developed characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is saying quite a bit when you remember he’s actually a villain, and they don’t get the best of treatment in Feige’s kingdom. But this actor is able to bring a sense of struggle and disdain that’s been lacking pretty severely thus far in the Marvel films. Not he seems to be getting back to his “trickster” roots a bit, and it will be fun to see him and his brother wreak havoc in Thor: Ragnarok.

Question 29

Can You Name This Goofball?

It’s Starlord, man. This actor was able to lead a team of rag tag, unknown heroes, and was able to help make them pop-culture phenomenon’s. Of course everyone is familiar with this actor from his hilarious stint as Andy on Parks and Recreation, but his portrayal of Star Lord is yet another example of perfect casting, this time by James Gunn and co. To imagine that we’ll be seeing this actor alongside Iron Man and Spider-Man in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War is ridiculously cool, and it will be great to see how Starlord is dealing with the loss of his father and his mentor from the last Guardians film.

Question 30

Can You Name This Joker Actor?

“Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?” This actors portrayal as Gotham’s Clown Prince of Crime is truly something to behold. Even in the wake of Ledger’s incredible performance that would come years later, there’s so much to admire about this actors performance in Burton’s first film. He was menacing but also looney, which was terrifying at times and hilarious at others, and that’s exactly what the Joker is supposed to be. And it’s crazy to think that Burton was able to convince such an incredible actor to work with him, and to portray such a bonkers character.

Question 31

Can You Name This Green Heroine?

The brains and muscle of the Guardians outfit, this actress plays Gamora in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The daughter of the infamous Thanos, Gamora has seen some pretty awful things during her life, and her relationship with her sister is *strained* at best. The way this actress is able to go from cold to delightfully touching in mere seconds proves to her overall talent as an actress, and her roles in films like Avatar and Star Trek seem to only prove that she’s a franchise treasure in Hollywood.

Question 32

Can You Name This Wrestler/Actor?

This wrestler turned actor was able to bring a fresh sense of humor to James Gunn’s already laugh-out-loud hilarious Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. His straight-laced and oblivious humor played quite well next to the antics of both Starlord and Rocket Raccoon, and Drax was certainly a fan-favorite in his second outing as the character in Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2. Here’s to hoping we get to see Drax interact with Iron Man, Spider-Man, and the rest of the Avengers in Infinity War.

Question 33

Can You Name This Hilarious Raccoon Voice-Actor?

Andy Serkis was the first to prove that motion capture and voice work was not only more challenging from a strictly person-to-person acting point of view, but that it could and should be regarded as highly as regular acting. This actor was able to give tons of personality to the character of Rocket Raccoon, and his constant back-and-forth with Starlord is some of the greatest comedic material present in either Guardians of the Galaxy film. I can’t wait to hear what Rocket’s going to say when he first meets the Avengers.

Question 34

Can You Name This Blue Actress?

This actress plays Nebula in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and she’s able to bring an emotionality to the role that is unmatched. There is a specific scene in the second Guardians of the Galaxy film that showcases Gillian’s talent for bringing out true emotion in a scene, and it’s where she and her sister are talking about the trials their father put them through when they were younger. It’s heartbreaking to watch her scream at her sister because she just wanted mercy from the only person she truly loved. It’s hard to find an actress that can convey those complicated emotions correctly, but James Gunn and co. chose wisely when they picked her.

Question 35

Can You Name This Hilarious Actor?

It’s hard to imagine that Ant-Man would be a film popular enough to receive a sequel, but here we are, basking in Kevin Feige’s genius. And this actor was been in some of the funniest films of all time, and he’s generally stealing the show when he is. The natural comedic timing that he has can only be compared to some of the legends that came before him like Steve Martin and Bill Murray, and whenever he shows up in a comedy, you just know you’re going to be crying from laughter. Hopefully the Ant-Man sequel will be able to give a little more intriguing material, as well as up the hysterical ante.

Question 36

Can You Name This Web-Slinger?

Our newest Spider-Man, this young actor seemed to have stolen everyone’s hearts with his turn as the web-slinging hero. It was hard to imagine that a third iteration of the Spider-Man character would be as welcomed or as critical as this actor’s interpretation was. John Watts was able to provide us with a high school Spider-Man that was less concerned with the world ending or the meaning of life, but was concerned with just being a typical high school kid, and the struggles that come with finding out your identity in the world.

Question 37

Can You Name This Wasp Actress?

The co-star to the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp film, this actress plays the second generation Wasp in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And it would be easy to go on and on about how immensely talented she is, not only with emotional chops but with being able to keep up, and at times outshine the miraculous headlining actor. But she’s also ripped, and she’s got the pictures to prove it. It’s hard to imagine that an actress can go from beloved to fearsome in one training program for a film, but she was able to pull that off. If we’re talking one-on-one stand-off, I’d take Ant-Man ten times out of ten.

Question 38

Can You Name This OG Superhero Actor?

Christopher Reeve Superman DC

The original Superman actor was able to show people that a man could truly fly. This actor was able to bring the kindhearted and warm Superman to life for millions and millions of people, and he did so by just being himself. He’s a cherished actor that was able to convince generations of fans that their favorite heroes could be displayed on the big screen, and taken seriously.

Question 39

Can You Name This Web-Head?

The second Peter Parker that we’ve gotten in the past two decades, this actor was able to bring out the witty, loud-mouth Spider-Man that was missing from Sam Raimi’s original trilogy. And he was yet another actor to show a genuine interest in his character, as Spider-Man was his favorite character growing up, and he actually read the comics that he was in. Unfortunately he wasn’t given the best of films, and so we had to ultimately say goodbye to his version of the friendly neighborhood Spidey.

Question 40

Can You Name This Dimension Jumping Sorcerer?

This actors entrance into the Marvel Cinematic Universe created a shift in the kind of stories that Marvel was able to tell within the confines of the Universe they built from the ground up. The introduction of multi-dimensional time travel was (and will soon be) a game changer for Marvel, as they continue to push the boundaries of possible stories to tell within their tightly constructed world. Can You Name This Wakanda King?

A personal favorite from his performance as the Black Panther in Captain America: Civil War, this actor is perhaps the most exciting introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Question 42

Can You Name This Mutant Professor?

Question 43

Can You Name This Metal Bender?

He’s given dazzling performances from Steve McQueen’s Shame and Hunger films, to Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, this actor has essentially changed the craft irrevocably for the better. And when it was announced that he would be playing fan-favorite Magneto, nobody worried that he wouldn’t be able to live up to the last man who twisted metal and made us believe it.

Question 44

Can You Name This Bald Teacher?

The original Xavier made his final appearance (or so he says) in James Mangold’s genre masterpiece, Logan, this year. To watch this actor continually develop a character that we were first introduced to 17 years ago is astounding, not to mention he’s been able to evolve and push the envelope when it comes to how audiences view this comic titan for nearly two decades. It was important that Brian Singer and co. were able to cast an Xavier that we could believe in, someone that we would want teaching ourselves or our children, and the filmmaking team nailed it.

Question 45

Can You Name This X-Men Villain?

The antagonist to Charles for nearly two decades, this actor portrayed Erik “Magneto” far before Fassbender took the role on. But no matter how detached we become from those first few superhero films, the tension that exists between Magneto and Xavier will have always been cemented by the original performers.

Can You Name This Crazy Psychiatrist?

Harley Quinn is a difficult character to bring to the live-action space, in fact, she’s proven to be a difficult character to use correctly even in the comic book space. But Warner Bros. was able to strike gold when they landed this actress to play the fast talking, hammer wielding psychopath. And though the film was less than stellar, this actress proved that she’s going to be around in the DCEU for a long time.

Question 47

Can You Name This Assassin?

One of the highlights of Suicide Squad was the performance delivered by this actor as the assassin-for-hire, Deadshot. One of the main problems with the film in general was it’s poor sense of narrative direction and it’s shifting focus. But when the film decided to focus on Floyd Lawton and his daughter, it’s hard to argue that it didn’t hit a bit of a stride. Watching this actor go toe-to-toe with Affleck’s Batman in an alley was a huge moment for the DC Extended Universe, here’s hoping that next time that happens, it’s in a better film.

Question 48

Can You Name This Wolverine?

Perhaps the greatest career-spanning comic book performances of all time, this actor portrayed Wolverine in every single X-Men film to date, even if he was just there to say some profanity.
