The nineties were jammed packed with coming of age movies like Dazed and Confused, American Pie, Can't Hardly Wait, Never Been Kissed, and Cruel Intentions which kept us all glued to our screens. Among them was Clueless, the story of 16-year-old Cherilyn "Cher" Horowitz, a well meaning but superficial rich girl who lives with her father in a mansion. Cher is pretty and the most popular girl in school. The storyline was loosely based on Jane Austen's 1815 novel Emma updated to a modern-day setting. Although it was originally pitched as a television series the concept was picked up by movie execs and went on to become the sleeper hit of the year.
The film, with its out-there fashion and delicious slang, was a hit with audiences and went on to develop a cult following. It launched quite a few careers and spawned a spin-off television sitcom and a series of books. Several of the original cast members returned for the series which ran for three seasons until it was canceled in 1999.
