Are You Stupid? Take Our 60-Second Test!

1.4K Shares

Very few people believe that they're stupid, because who would want to admit something like that to themselves? However, it's not just willful arrogance that tends to make us believe that we are smarter than we are, but ignorance as well.

In fact, there's a psychological term for that very thing, called the Dunning-Kruger Effect. Essentially, one's ignorance works to shield them from their own ignorance, because if you don't know how much you don't know, then you have no way to perceive how stupid you really might be. Ignorance is bliss, as they say.

Of course, stupidity isn't just about knowledge, but also in one's ability to grasp concepts or ideas, to learn things, and to problem-solve. The Dunning-Kruger Effect can also be applied in this way, to someone's performance at a given task, whereby if they have no way of knowing if they are doing something poorly (though it may be obvious to a smarter person), they will simply assume they are doing everything right.

In this quiz, we are going to lift the veil of ignorance from your head, as terrifying a prospect as that may be. We've compiled 25 questions, many of which are based on scientific data showcasing the strange way in which our actions or genetics often reveal our intelligence. Taken separately, they are unreliable as a way to judge someone's intelligence. But together, they are far more likely to accurately determine whether someone's smart, of middling intelligence, or a total imbecile.

So, deep breaths, the moment of truth is at hand. Are you a moron? Take the quiz, answer honestly, and find out.

Question 1

How Much Anxiety Do You Have?

High Anxiety

The level of anxiety you carry around with you just might be a sign of your intelligence. But which way does intelligence lean? Are smart people rational enough to accept that their worries are insignificant in the greater scheme of things, and to pay them less heed? Or are more intelligent people prone to being inside their heads more often and over-analyzing everything that's occurring in their lives?

Question 2

How Often Do You Have Sex?

How often you have a go with your partner under the sheets (or with your partner's friend, but let's not go there) could actually indicate your intelligence. Is it that intelligent people are more likely to be able to convince someone to get naked with them? Or are intelligent people too busy figuring out equations to bother with something as carnal as sex? Well, we're not telling, just answer the question Romeo.

Question 3

How Creative Are You?

It's been demonstrated that how creative you are might have some connection to how intelligent you are. Are intelligent people more likely to be creative and have a need to express themselves in some way? Or are the intelligent ones those who focus on pragmatic pursuits that provide real services or value, eschewing trifles like art and fanciful tales?

Question 4

Do You Have Allergies?

To show that intelligence can correlate to literally anything, we now come to allergies. Yes, your level of intelligence likely indicates whether you have allergies or not, as unlikely as it might seem that there could possibly be any connection between those seemingly disparate things. Are you allergic to everything under the sun (and maybe even the sun itself), or nothing?

Question 5

Have You Ever Been Addicted to Drugs?

Most of us can probably admit that letting ourselves get addicted to drugs or anything else that is harmful, probably isn't the smartest thing in the world. And indeed, there's an intelligence gap between those who have been addicted to drugs and those who haven't. So, just between friends...have you?

Question 6

How Many Conspiracy Theories Do You Believe In?

There are countless conspiracy theories out there, the number of which have only multiplied exponentially since the proliferation of the internet. We are now inundated daily with the latest fad conspiracy theory, often delivered to us by some random dude on YouTube with 55K subs. Thank god we have access to these reliable sources of information.

Question 7

Have You Ever Posted A Chain Letter Online?

Even in our modern "enlightened" age, chain letters are still making their rounds online, with people spreading the word that if you only do these 3 things and send this message to 5 other people, your wish will come true. Obviously, it would take a true moron to believe such nonsense...right? So why do people do it? Are they trolls? Are they fools? Are they being possessed by a demon of stupidity? No one knows. All we know is that chain letters continue to be found online.

Question 8

How Often Do You Use "Like" or the like?

Like, don't judge me man, just because I use like. That is like, so trivial, I can't believe I'm even reading this noise. Honestly, if I hadn't already rated The Quiz 5 stars on Facebook, I would like totally close this stupid quiz and like, tell all my friends how stupid you are. Why couldn't you just give me more quizzes where I choose the hottest hunk? Like hellloooooo, people want to feel good about themselves, not be told how stupid they are. Like wow, so sad.

Question 9

Do You Have Trouble Explaining Complex Ideas?

We may read something rather complicated and think ourselves pretty darn smart for seemingly grasping it. But then the moment comes where we're forced to explain it to someone else and realize we don't really understand it at all. In fact, without repeating what we read verbatim (if we can even manage that), we don't have the faintest clue how to describe it. There's no shame in it, maybe your memory just sucks. Or, could it be that you're a moron?

Question 10

What Do You Back Up Your Beliefs With?

A stupid person is more likely to adopt opinions or state things as being fact without much evidence or rationale to support their position. That's not to say that their position is necessarily wrong, but that they don't have enough personal justification for accepting it as fact. On the other hand, smarter people tend to be more demanding when it comes to adopting beliefs and are more likely to consider the evidence from both sides of an argument, rather than insulating themselves in a bubble.

Question 11

How Often Do You Change Your Mind/Opinion About Something?

Whether or not you're willing to change your mind regarding a belief you previously did or did not hold can be another way of determining your intelligence. Is it that stupid people tend to be more wishy-washy and prone to switching sides because they don't have firm beliefs? Or are they less likely to switch sides out of ignorance and closed-mindedness?

Question 12

How Quickly Do You Judge People?

How quick you are to judge people may hint at just how smart or stupid you are. It's undeniable that the ability to make quick decisions is a sign of intelligence, and evolutionarily-speaking, this may be precisely why we are often quick to judge situations or people. However, is it fair or smart to judge people in such a manner, based on primal instincts that can only inform us based on what they look like or other subtle physical clues?

Question 13

Are You Liberal or Conservative?

Another can of worms is about to be opened, as we delve into the touchy subject of intelligence based on political affiliation. There is indeed a noticeable difference in intelligence between liberals and conservatives according to many studies, which even extends to people being "very" liberal or "very" conservative, who have even more extreme IQ scores than just plain old libs or cons.

Question 14

How Often Do You Read?

A person's proclivity towards reading appears to be a strong indicator of just how smart (or stupid) they may be, and this starts early on in life. One's mastery of reading as a young child is one of the strongest indicators of future intelligence, which should prompt every parent to work with their child on their reading skills daily; that is, if they don't want them to end up as strippers or garbage men.

Question 15

How Religious Are You?

Hoo boy, we're getting into a sensitive area here. Intelligence is indeed correlated with religious beliefs, as has been shown in numerous studies. People with strong religious beliefs tend to reside on one end of the intelligence spectrum, while atheists (i.e. heathens) reside on the other. That isn't so in the case of all religious groups, with Jews being an outlier in relation to their religious brethren, but otherwise the broader correlations generally hold.

Question 16

Are You Homophobic?

It's been shown in many studies that there is a correlation between intelligence and homophobic sentiment. Expanded further, the same applies to discriminatory behavior in general. This raises an interesting nature versus nurture debate, as discriminatory thinking is often attributed to parenting or other influences. Of course, intelligence itself is a combination of both genetics and environment, so it would make sense that they are correlated if they're both shaped in the same way.

Question 17

Are You Male or Female?

There isn't a huge intelligence divide when it comes to gender, but one of the sexes does tend to score slightly better. Each of the sexes also has its strengths and weaknesses when it comes to different areas of intelligence. Another interesting point of note is that women tend to cluster nearer to the IQ-mean than men, who have more outliers in both directions (very smart and very stupid).

Question 18

What's Your Favorite Kind of Alcohol?

Even your alcoholic beverage of choice can predict your intelligence, with a large Danish study from 2005 showing a clear divide in intelligence between those people that preferred beer and those that preferred wine. Other studies have demonstrated a correlation between intelligence and how young a person was when they started drinking as well as how much alcohol they consume.

Question 19

Do You Have A Good Sense of Humor?

Can your sense of humor (or lack thereof) actually tell you something about your intelligence? The answer is yes. Not only do people with a good sense of humor rate differently when it comes to intelligence than those that don't, but those with a dark sense of humor have a certain level of intelligence all their own. So, a man walks into a brothel with a jackass and a honeycomb...

Question 20

How Large Are Your Pupils?

Believe it or not, there is a correlation between pupil size and intelligence, as demonstrated in a 2016 study. This correlation not only applies on an individual level (our pupils tend to shrink as we age), but across broad groups and among different ethnic groups. Why does pupil size have any connection to intelligence? Well, it's believed that the strength of one's norepinephrine signaling is the key, determining both pupil size and the effectiveness of one's neural connectivity.

Question 21

How Often Do You Curse?

There is some debate around this topic, and the internet has been flooded with stories about how cussing proves higher intelligence, though these have been based on highly flawed correlations between vocabulary size/memory and a person's perceived frequency of swearing, which are not actually correlated at all. Like, seriously? Just because someone is good at naming off swear words doesn't mean they use them more than the people who can't. And people are actually buying that absurd logic? Makes me want to freaking swear until I'm blue in the face!!!!! Ahem. Anyway, tell us how often you swear.

Question 22

Are Your Parents Stupid?

Sorry to bring your parents into this like that, but intelligence is somewhat hereditary. Basically, you're born with minimum and maximum values that your intelligence could reach, which are then determined by your environment (how you were raised). So chances are, your parents have had a definite impact on your intelligence, in more way than one.

Question 23

How Often Do You Brag About Yourself?

Nothing wrong with tooting our own horn now and then and/or being proud of our accomplishments right? The people who complain about others bragging about themselves are only jealous that they don't have anything to brag about. We all know they'd be the first ones to brag about themselves if they actually had a reason to.

Question 24

Are You The Oldest or Youngest Sibling?

The order in which you were born in relation to your siblings can also affect your intelligence, though not due to any hereditary factors. Rather, the nurture effect on one's intelligence is likely to be impacted by your place and role in the hierarchy of your family. Some siblings really do get all the luck; or at least some of it.

Question 25

What Do You Like to Do When You're Bored?

How you spend your free time is a likely indicator of your intelligence. Do you pass your time in idle pursuits that provide little more than some form of entertainment? Or do you seek to challenge yourself, broaden your horizons, and grow as a person? All of these are possibilities when you can do anything you want with your time. So, how do you spend your free time?
